We've eaten at the restaurant in Amish Acres before and loved it. We've also eaten in an Amish restaurant in Berlin Ohio that's very authentic. Many Amish folks eating inside and it' mainly not someplace for tourists, but they make you very welcome! That being said on our current trip down to Arizona (still in New Mexico now) we we're driving down a two lane highway in a small town in Kansas and it was about lunchtime. I saw a sign saying Cynthia's Cafe 2 blocks off the highway. Sounded right up our alley so we followed the arrow. It wasn't Amish, but Mennonite and it was wonderful! We are still eating the homemade cookies now, about a week later!
I was here today with my parents. We were coming from Ohio, and my mom wanted to stop here to get some stuff. We ate at the buffet as well, and the food was delicious. Everything was made from scratch, and tasted incredible. This makes a nice day trip as well. Just leave early, and you can spend a day in the Amish country
We used live in Elkhart, IN during the 1990s and we would go here to eat a few times a year. We would always take out of town visitors here to eat. It was a lot smaller place when we first went there to eat. It always had great food. Last time we ate there was probably 2000 or 2001 then we moved away from that area. We miss it very much. Thanks for the video.
Peanut butter cream pie sounds amazing. The food looked delicious and the stores looked like great places to shop. We haven’t been to an Amish restaurant. But we do regularly go to an Amish market that also has a lot of pies and baked goods and they are all delicious. Thanks for sharing Essenhaus with us!
My mom used to make a peanut butter cream pie and it was delicious. I have never made it but should get her recipe. I make a cold peanut butter pie with a graham cracker crust which we love. Amish food is just so good. It sure makes a difference when things are made from scratch. We hope you guys have a very Merry Christmas and a blessed and prosperous 2024! 🎄
This looks like a wonderful place to dine, Terri and Keith! I've mentioned in the past we love that area. We've visited many times, but I think more down in the Goshen, Nappanee and Amish Acres area. We've eaten at the restaurant there. This looked delicious and it would be fun to eat in a buggy! Lovely Amish shops and merchandise. Thanks for bringing us along.
Gotta love a good buffet for sure!! Lots of goodies to buy in the shop...and really nice grounds indeed. A very Merry Christmas to you both and all the best that 2024 has to offer! Bruce and Otis
Looks lovely and the story is nice too. I just did a double take on the name. Das=German, then Dutchman and Essenhaus = German. ( Essenhaus = foodhouse). I can imagine when on the road you'd want to eat somewhere relaxing and comfortable. This looks a great place to stretch the legs and refresh after being in the car a while. Lovely video. Thanks Terri and Keith. 🌟🇳🇱🧑🎄🇳🇿🎄
Yes, most of the Amish are of German decent. We have such great memories eating there with Keith’s mother for many years. It was a walk down memory lane for us this time. The food has always been amazing! Hope you have a most amazing Christmas 🎄
@@RetiredLovingIt Ah I see, then I would have put Deutschman instead of Dutchman. But as long as the food is good and the service is great- what's in a name. 🌟👌
@@IamaDutch-Kiwi I think the particular Amish from this area are Pennsylvania Dutch not sure how exactly they came up with the name but like you said, the food is good 😊
That would be so fun to be set up to eat in the buggy. We've never been, but would absolutely love to go. The food looks so amazing. Buffets are hard for me cause I never know when to put my fork down. Love the store and bakery. Yes, my mouth would be watering too. Bill would want the peanut butter. They really did have a lot to offer with the different stores. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Bill and DeAnna
It does look like an interesting place to visit. Many years ago we ate at an Amish restaurant in Lancaster PA. Just got back from a trip to Epcot with family and came home with Covid 😥 (4 out of 8 of us so far).
Let us know if you have been there or any other good Amish restaurants

We agree! Such a great part of the country to explore. There is Amish Acres not far from there as well.
Have you visited The Village at Winona? It’s beautiful with interesting history.. Plan a visit next summer. We would love to take you on a boat ride.
We’ve never heard of it. We’ll definitely look that up! Merry Christmas 🎄

Keith was raised in Elkhart. His mother used to work there when they first opened. We have eaten there many times.

That so reminds us of the Dur Dutchman in the heart of Ohio Amish country for the resturant
The food is amazing! Can’t beat Amish cooking
