This particular show was being filmed in Houston, so when he said Houston, the crowd went wild. In the original song you hear on record or radio, he sings “ born and raised in South Detroit”. This performance is definitely a masterpiece!
If you notice , there are no ear mics , auto tunes, recorded back up vocals . It's just the band , pure talent . I was in my teens when Journey was at their peak !! I have seen them 4 times . They used to call Steve Perry the lead vocalist " the voice"" a Journalist once asked Freddie Mucury "what is like to be the best singer in Rock?" Freddie said " I don't know , ask Steve Perry"
I was at this concert at The Houston Summit...a high school senior who made the concert rounds back in my day. Journey still stands out as the best live performers I've ever been privileged to see. No auto-tune, just pure unadulterated talent that's basically unmatched. Don't be afraid to jump down the rabbit hole!
Steve Perry is one of the greatest singers ever. He and Freddie Mercury of Queen were at the top of the heap mid 70s to mid 80s. Wheel in the Sky, Anyway you Want It, Mother Father, Faithfully are incredibly good songs. Best success on yr channel
Don't Stop Believin is from there Escape Tour Live in Houston 1981 with Lead singer Steve Perry, do a reaction to " Stone in Love " Girl Can't Help it " Open Arms " Who's Crying Now " Mother Father " Escape " Stay Awhile " Steve Perry is called ( The voice ) he is one of the Best if not the Best Singer in Rock History .
You know what is really amazing if you think about it is this is a live performance. And I think there are only 4 guys on stage. And Steve Perry's voice is one of the best I've ever heard for rock and roll. Just has excellent voice
Great reaction! I love that a boy your age appreciates this wonderful classic. You should react to several of his songs from his Escape Tour in Houston 1981. You will continue to be surprised. Greetings from Tandil, Argentina! 🇦🇷🤗
Steve Perry is the greatest vocalist of all time IMHO. No autotune no vocal training just God given raw talent! Watch Mother Father and Who’s crying now from the same show. Live in Houston 1981! You will be blown away!
Steve Perry and Journey are one of the very few acts that sounded BETTER live, due to the fact that they were basically a "super group" before that was a thing. Steve Perry could do ANYTHING with his voice at any time.
journey with steve perry were the beast. in 1983, steve perry was voted the singer of the year by his peers (other singers/bands). he was also in the original "we are the world" song/video.
Welcome to one of the one popular bands of the70’s & 80’s. Steve Perry’s voice is perfection. Neil Schon, guitarist, was a prodigy and he played with Santana…as did another Journey founding member, Gregg Rolie (keyboard player and vocalist). Saw them in 1983, relatively unknown Bryan Adams opened. Amazing show!
Any time I mention watching a reaction video to my husband, and the legendary performers being experienced for the first time, he looks astonished lol. He always says "have these people been living under a rock for the last 40 (-50) years". It's great seeing this music find a new audience.
It’s fun you get to experience this for the first time! My 21 and 23 yr olds grew up on it because my husband and I listened to it! My daughter watched the tv show Glee, and they covered a lot of great 80’s music too. Journey has a huge catalog of hits!
@@BimuReacts foreigner, reo speedwagon, Styx, Boston, the outfield, so many great bands, I love even older than this I sing Frankie Valli songs he’s from the 60s
Notice that there was no need for slick video walls, big light shows, dancers, costume changes or autotune. Yet somehow they put on a better show than most performers today.
A little bit of trivia: Steve Perry was born in an agricultural town California from Portuguese immigrants from the Azores islands. After they divorced he was raised by his grandparents. He credits his ease in singing long vowels from speaking and singing in Portuguese. As teenager he played at a local club with a well worn carpet that smelled of wine and beer and the female regulars wore cheap perfume, hence the lyric. While on tour in Detroit he stayed at a hotel. From his room on a higher floor he could see streetlights and the people walking in the night.
I grew up with Journey and into the hair bands of the 80s. So many Journey songs - power ballads Open Arms, Faithfully. Hair Bands like Bon Jovi (Living on a Prayer); Poison a fun song “Unskinny Bop” and their power ballad Every Rose Has A Thorn.” I could write pages :) thank you for broadening your horizons and sharing.
For me, Journey with Steve Perry were always better live than in the studio. The "Escape" tour was simply great, check out more of it. Definitely "Mother, Father", "Open Arms", "Wheel in the sky"......Also live Tokyo "Lights/Stay awhile", "I'll be allright without you" "Girl can't help it" and many more. Steve was born to sing and perform and the band was so perfect back then. Neal on guitar is incredibly good but so are the others, they just harmonized so well together, it's a shame it broke up. But I also liked Randy Jackson in the later line-up and he fit in perfectly with the band and did an excellent job. There is a good documentary on RUclips called "Raised on Radio, 1986 tour" that is definitely worth watching.

Try 4 non blondes What's Up. Linda Perry has a very unique vocal style, and that song has 1.5 billion views. After her second album, Perry very seriously got into song writing. Pink, Gwen Stefani, etc. Linda is in the song writers hall of fame.

Just fabulous, but have to say you HAVE to listen to Richard Goodall on America's Got Talent, you just wouldn't believe him. Please watch it, this year too!!
The real lyric is "BORN AND RAISED IN SOUTH DETROIT." BUT, whatever city Journey is performing in, Steve Perry will say THAT city's name INSTEAD of "South Detroit" (except when they ARE performing IN Detroit!)
They are a rock band. But not what you call a 'Hard-Rock' band. They are more melodic and rhythmic than many of the rock bands during their prime. And they are still performing. But lead singer Steve Perry no longer tours with them. However, they lucked out on a pretty good replacement for him.
They are a great band..they now have an Arnel Pineda as lead singer. He's great but not Steve Perry. Steve's voice. ❤❤❤ Listen to their other top 10 songs. . . Faithfully and Lights..Steve is the 'Voice'.
Thank you to everyone for introducing me to Journey❤✨

What's so remarkable about Steve's voice is it's so pure - absolutely no vibrato - just, well Pure.
Yesss! So authentic
"THE VOICE " best of all time. ❤❤❤❤ Steve Perry and Journey.
The fact that you observed that EVERY band member was singing got my sub.
Thank you !
Back when talent was needed to succeed - no artificial aids just the ability to sing and play instruments.
Yesss!!!!
Steve Perry is known as "the voice."

Sure
Steve Perry will always be Journey to me. Without him they are just not as good.
Agree!
Journey was a San Francisco Bay area-based band. My late husband worked on their crew for a short while around the time this concert happened.

Well! Not everyone my age from different country follow western music! I grew up in Nepal following Nepali and pop music !
Calm down, my comment was about my husband being out of touch and was not a slam against you. Chill.
