- My new model railway item Hornby Class 43 DVT.
The electrification of the East Coast Mainline occurring in 1987 was almost complete, with deliveries of new electric Class 91s occurring when British Rail realised the Mk4 coaches and Mk4 DVT were still not ready to go into service.
As a result, eight eastern region HST power cars were converted to operate as surrogate DVTs in tandem with the new electric locomotives and a rake of Mk3 coaches. The conversion process involved the fitting of buffers and remote-control equipment.

I had that model in 2022. I might have to get it again as my sight is not as good as it were and I think I will have to move away from N scale over the next 2 years. I hear Accurascale are doing a Class 89 model as well, so this will be perfect to shove at the back of the consist.

Great video Aidan, looks like a really nice model and definitely one I may pick up in the future but before this was announced I was already building my own from a spare class 43 body I had and a Lima chassis and right now it is very nearly complete, the buffered power cars look great in my opinion, i only saw the buffered power cars when they were with grand central and seeing them going through Doncaster at speed was great.
Hi David. I had toyed with the idea in the past modding a standard HST power car but never really got around to doing it. When these were announced they were on my radar although i did not pre order one. Having purchased this one i'm glad i did. I genuinely don't believe i would had done as good of a job. The buffer beam just gives the power car a totally different look. Cheers David

I agree! In fact I came across a brand new Hornby Class 43 buffered HST pack and had to hold myself back haha.

I’ve pre-ordered the new Mk4 Swallow Intercity coaches. Would it be somewhat authentic then to have this at the end of them, with a Class 91 at the front?
It certainly wouldn’t look out of place. There are many videos on RUclips showing many variations of formation with these units in place. An interesting video I watched showed on coupled to mk3 sleepers on a 225 test run. Cheers
