Lost it at "You know you guys are right, this is so much harder in the field..."! :D
The plastic packaging is probably more secure than the lock, well done Bill.
That's what you pay for. But don't forget putting a warning on or the thief cuts himself with the plastic and sues you.
2:30 "They can't be too difficult to pick. First of all, they're Master Locks..." lol
These are wonderfully made door stops no winds gonna blow my door shut again thanks masterlock
Typical Master Lock, just wave your rake at it and it opens out of fear.
Yeah, but you were not under a category 6 hurricane during a magnitude 9 earthquake and light rain...
Isn't a hurricane rain? I think you ment tornado.
Everyone knows the lock is unpickable during allergy season.
@@redhammer92 Ok, that got a laugh out of me...
Maybe if zombies were attacking Bill as he tried to pick the lock, it would be more real world.
Than just go for the boat, and ignore the trailer 😂
uh, no i am a lock smith and you rely theses by unlocking the lock and pulling up on the mechanism, then with a flat pick you reach down along the ribbed ratchet side and depress the locking action, once that is done the sliding part of the lock can be removed, once that part is removed you can now access the back of the cylinder to release it to rekey it
Rely theses?
@@panek6443 Yeah, I'm looking for a translation. I think he's saying that they can be rekeyed differently that the video maker guesses. Hell I just bought one. I guess I would "rely theses" if I was protecting something more valuable than rough and rusty work trailer (which resides behind locked gates and live-feed security cameras).
@@wadepatton2433 Ohhh, thanks!
@@panek6443 rekey these. Typo
"let's try to rake it, after all, it is a Master Lock"...... Lol
With those keys cut so similar, it almost looks like that you can swap the keys and, still open them both.
EDIT: But with Mastur Lock any "key" will do lol.
The pinnacle of master lock will be the day when they make a lock that opens when you sneeze on it.
Oh man. Not another master lock product. Do you want another letter from a lawyer??
you mean LockPickingLawyer =)
They are mates. All good with LPL 😛
I think all the letters should go up on the website. Let the tribe have a laugh!
LPL will have a "little chat" with those lawyers in his garage.
I finally got my boss to replace our jobsite locks after showing him some of your videos lol. I also beat one open with a hammer so that kinda sealed the deal.
I worked at a truck stop and we would get keys mixed up a lot. I tried to prevent it, but it was a disorganized truck stop.
Anyways, I cut a few cheap Chinese padlocks because there was no key that could be found for it. I just replaced it with yet another cheap padlock from the store that was charged to the store account.
Luckily, the padlocks only locked diesel mitts by the diesel pumps, so it was no big deal if a box of diesel mitts was stolen by a trucker. It did happen too.
I looked away for a second and bam, the pick was over. Had to go back all of 10 seconds, lol
Gotta pay for that high security packaging
Hey Bill,
I Just want to say thank you for Sharing your knowledge with us and for building up this Community:))
The best option I found was form a local weld shop selling hitch clamps made out of 1/4" steel plate, you put your favorite padlock on it. It only works if the hitch is not easy to remove and replace.
Watched your video yesterday (9/9/21) as I lost my Master trailer hitch lock keys. Today gathered up a small flat file and and curved dental pick and within 3 minutes the lock was picked and the lock came off. Thanks for the great video which helped my a lot.
Nice work Bill, and although I personally don't find it necessary, I appreciate the extra effort to do the field testing. Same old same from the folks at ML
Great in place pic. Unlike others bench picks.
Thanks for picking in the field.
Sadly it did not help secure the lock so I know better now.
A true field test would include a guard dog chewing on your leg....
I heard they [thieves] use sausages with razor blades.
@@zwz.zdenek True guard dogs wouldn't give a shit, they live to bite some ass.
Thanks for the video; I lost my keys and this was helpful to unlock without damaging the trailer.
One is red. That's worth thirty bucks, right?
They're charging extra for the tamper resistant packaging. The cardboard box could even be used as a storage box while the trailer is in use. Looking at how fast to rake, the plastic package is more secure than the lock.
I hear, if you throw them, the red one should travel faster, too bad they didn't paint flames on that one.
And another 5 horsepower to the trailer wheels
Can't stop laughing! Love the dry humor!
I've recently managed to remove pins just like that one with the use of a self tacking body slide hammer. I borrowed my local shop's time with one and managed to do it on the 3rd try (bad aim). So if anyone is actually interested, that's a method, certainly easier than drilling it out.
Kept waiting for the punchline: "These things are so much more difficult in the field-my knees are absolutely killing me." (Most trailer thieves are probably much younger than Bill!)
Because of watching your videos for about 2 years now I've bought 2 lockpuck kits and some locks and so far.ecery lock I've gotten from Walmart, home Depot, Lowe's, any of the big name companies, they're extremely easy to pick. I'm 9n my 2nd day and I can take open damn near any lock purchased from those stores. I will say brinks seems better than master lock
Huge fan bill, keep up the awesome work. and, keep reviewing master locks until they get better. Oh, wait; they wont get better.
But I love him roasting the garbage. Maybe he should keep the spoiler (JUNK) out of the title.
I imagined you throwing that shade in Bosnian: "Jes bolan, teško na terenu rješit', eto"
Great video Bill!!
Nicely done as always Bill ;o))))
This is sorta what I’ve been doing over on my channel for a little bit now 👍
Bill, I understand you SPP these locks but let's be honest: you could probably rake it open with a zip-tie and a twig.
youve seen his cat lid and bamboo skewer vids right?
Any recommendations for available options in terms of coupler lock or simply pointing out the manufacturer's fails?
Thanks for the review videos. Do you have one trailer hitch lock that you can recommend as NOT being junk, or easy to defeat?
I hear a cardinal. Nice real world demonstration.
I not sure where Bosnianbill purchased the 389DAT but if he paid more than $25.00 he got screwed just check the price of the Master Lock 389DAT using your favorite search engine and I believe like me the price for this doorstop ranges between $22 and $27 US Dollars
Secondly these style Trailer Hitch Lock are about as useful as nipples on a boar hog. By in large most trailer hitches are bolted onto the younger of the trailer, therefore a thief not an opportunist who is interested in stealing your boat, camper, personal water craft, etc just need to bring a new hitch and a wrench with him to drive off with your stuff. The total time to do this is in under 5 minutes. That said the best way to secure you trailer in one place is a harden chain and a good paddle lock preferably more than one. My SOP is to uses separate locks & chains to loop through each wheel and around the frame and then snake a chain though all of the wheels. Admittedly this won’t stop a determined crook and let’s face not much will but it will certainly slow them down. Additionally I hide a cellphone with a large battery that charges off the trailer lights to use as a GPS tracker if the determined crook actually cuts all my chains or locks.
With that level of paranoia, the thief will grind on it for days trying to find the diamonds.
You would that with 4 pins that they would put more effort into it. Happy pickings!!
Hi what trailer locks do you recommend I’m getting a horse trailer and don’t want it to be stolen thank you 🙏
After the cylinder seized on mine (2nd use), I found out that a crowbar and a few seconds of my time turned it from one big steaming turd into two smaller steaming turds. No, it doesn't hurt the hitch at all.
Mahahahahster lock. You could go 'BOO' and it would jump open.
Bill has done that in the past.. Even peed one open.
Appreciate ya good man. Thanks for video.
I always heard on this channel and others that Masterlock is garbage then I see a video about picking one with two paperclips and decided to try it. As it turns out I was able to pick it within 1 minute with two paperclips. Me... somebody who prior to that had never ever even attempted to pick a lock. It did get me even more interested in lock picking so I'm probably going to pick up some real tools and give a try at some other locks.
Considering how quick you could rake it it's doubtless 100% Meth head approved!
Question...you mentioned drilling out the pin to replace the key tumbler. Won't that pin push in to slide out the tumbler when it is in the unlocked position?
Just rekeyed 10 of them today. Cylinder pulls out with a control key. uses the same control key as the Master python series as it has the same cylinders. you have to have a mastering kit.
Also has to be in the open position to remove the cylinder.
Seems like you could just take a piece of square 1/4" thick tubing and make a much better lock body. Just weld on some ears to hold the lock shackle and drill a hole in one side to stick a retaining bar through. Make a retaining rod out of a piece of 2" steel round bar, drilling a cross hole for the lock shackle on one and turning a ball on the other end to stick in the hitch. Place the tubing over the hitch, hole facing down, stuff in the retaining rod, and run the lock shackle through the ears and retaining rod.
masterlocks would be pretty good locks if they stopped printing their name on all of them
Ridiculous how easy they are to pick open.
Rekeyable using a special tool. Its basically a key that is a little longer that hits a retaining wafer in the back. That pulls out the core
Do the keys open each other locks as it looks like one key fits all?
4:44 How..... did you slide the key in with the core turned and the key pins up against the lock housing.....?
I enjoyed the pick in the wild
Interesting - I got the red one for $20 off ebay. Feels solid though.
Those locks those wafer locks cylinders have a retaining wafer in the back. All you need is a pic if you stick a pic in the back of there and push it in you can pull the cylinder out.
Despite looking beefy I feel like a person could freeze the casting and crack it with a solid blow. Might buy one and try it. For entertainment purposes.
There’s a retaining wafer the back of the core that you can push down with a pick and pull it out
Well it would be harder to pick if it was attached to the boat trailer and under 20 feet of water. Get your swim trunks on Bill😁
Wow master ,if you hold your pick and tension tool it opens
The lock prevents the thief of opportunity. I had a insurance claim adjuster told me he had a boat stole and trailer had a wheel boot.
One aspect is that many locks on trailers and other outside things are exposed to elements, making them very hard to pick. I’m a beginner so I still have trouble with a no.5 master lock.
Alo
What couple lock do you recommend?
You might want to have a bodyguard soon because the way I see it, over at Master lock land, they are going to put a contract out on you...🤣
dont worry, theyll miss.
Great video sir. Thanks for showing us that those 2 items are garbage. :)
I cant afford it. Maay i suggest adding a short closer vid on cutting one off. Would a reciprocating saw with metal blade work? Tx. Great vid.
Lock picking is an acquired skill.
The red one makes the trailer go faster..unhitched and locked weird huh
Can you please tell the name of the tools you are using to pick the lock. I lost the key to my sons master lock on his trailer
I like to see you test the pick resistance of a kilogram bar of pure gold (you said youd order it right away!)
That isn't a lock so it doesn't count, silly.
would you do a video on what is in your field kit?
Out there roasting the critics.
My grandpa would always say "Locks only keep honest people honest".
i kept hoping he would use the key from the opposite lock to open its brother. haha
What would you recommend as an alternative?
Bueller.... bueller.... bueller.... 🤓
There is something inside everyone I think (in me anyway) that says with hope "Maybe this time it's gonna be a good lock".
I'm a cynical guy. Everything's bullshit. And if not, I'll make it so.
Good Video
I was wondering if you could whack it with a 3# sledge hammer to break the front of it off. That would be my concern is that a thief would come by and break it, leave for a few minutes to make sure someone doesn't catch you in the act and then haul the trailer off.
Bill kills another One!!!
What lock will you recommend? For a trailer .
www.provenlocks.com/collections/all
Damnit I just bought a 4 pack keyed alike of the black haha
Psssst. Hey buddy! Wanna buy a shiny red lock?
It says 'Master Lock' on it! You think I'm gullible enough to fall for that one!?
How's about some beachfront property in Idaho?
Sure! Where do I sign?
I would rather have the beachfront property in Idaho.
Did you try swapping the Keys? If its as bad as it looks then red key in black lock might work.
My bet is on the other way.
Soooo much harder in the field lol
The red Lock is at several stores from $28-$32
please master lock make some more locks for us to pick
I busted the black one (same model number) off my utility trailer after I lost the key over the winter. 3' pry bar and 10 seconds. Wish I had seen this first, would have saved the lock..... since I found the key later :-(
Well ... not much of a loss, except the money you paid for it :( .
Can you show us your field kit Mr bill thank you
You pay extra for the red one because the packaging is more secure.
I couldn't find my keys for a trailer lock and busted out my picks and the lock jumped off the trailer
Mark Adkins lol, that's a good one.
Obviously a Master then😂
Of course
They are rekeyable but junk still. I emailed you photos of the kit and how without drilling.
Show how you would rekey it Bill.
Is that video intro inspired by the raid area 51 thing going on? :D
I think I detected a hint of sarcasm at the 4:31 mark.
Not that it matters if they're that easy to pick. But there shouldn't be that much "play" in it. You're supposed to lift the receiver latch up, push lock up against front of hitch, then push the pin latch down. But it doesn't matter if they're that easy to pick, that's bad. Then you put a lock through the latch pin hole. But again, doesn't matter if they're so easy to unlock.
little late to the party but you paid $35 extra for the candy apple red finish. that's the real expense there, advertising you got a master lock in a bright as hell red.
I run a grade 8 chain through the wheels and lock with an abloy
I did that on a small trailer, and I think the thieves drug my trailer onto another trailer and stole it!
The locks are probably aimed at different markets/demographics.
An ironworker sleever bar would be quicker than picking this lock.
The extra 35 bucks is for that fancy red paint job. If it's red, it's gotta be better, right?
These are master locks new wafer rekeyable cores. They have a special key to pull thr core out. The key is like a laser cut bump key.
I know that special key exists for its cable locks, but I think on this particular model toy have to pull the pin like you said in the video
That intro came straight from area 51
I would have guessed these to be wafer locks. 'In any case' with Master the qualities gone before the name goes on.
