I just bought my 93 GT 2 weeks ago, it’s a completely rust free true 88K mile car. Interior is 9/10, paint is like an 8.5/10. Black on black interior car. Still has the cats, smog system, egr everything is stock. I payed $10K for it.

I just bought this one, it has the M code in the VIN which I understand indicates it was born a 4cyl car. What are some other things to look at to tell if it was originally a 4cyl car or if someone has swapped a M code vin onto the car.

New subscriber here from Michigan!...just picked me up a 89 Scarlet red notch rust free that was a 4 cylinder car and it's been 460 swapped...I saved the car from becoming a drag car...I got real lucky and the guy I got it from saved all the interior parts that took me about a half hour to reinstall...I plan on getting rid of the 460 and c6 that's in the car and going with a fuel injected Windsor power plant for my build....I kicked around a coyote swap but I'm leaning towards the Windsor instead....but cut a long story short I paid 5700 for my notch because of how clean it is....these notches are getting hard to find that aren't complete drag cars so I'm glad I finally found one....I've owned a ton of hatches but I finally got the notch I always wanted!...it was definitely worth the 5700 dollars I spent for my car.

i know this vid is old but i like the pinstripe. back then all cars had pinstriping on them. good to see you dont have the red interior. to me theres nothing worse than red interior in anything. that is a clean notch though for sure. im lookin at one now that has a fresh 351 build that has never ban ran since rebuild and also comes w a novi supercharger also in white. it used to be a service car and has the 160mph speedo as well. the issue i have is the guy removed the fi wiring and everything associated w it. there is 5k on the novi supercharger kit. he bought the kit new and blew the 302 then built the 351. has afr cnc heads 650 carb bunch of stuff victor jr intake etc. body is supposed to be clean dunno for sure. he drag raced it but has the interior. also has a lentech aod trans. if i do get it i will swap it to a stick. my biggest concern though is what to do in regards of the missing wiring. hes askin 5500 for everything which doesnt seem too bad tbh. that wiring scares me though as its all gone. any tips on that one? id much rather have fuel injection.

of course, "doing the work yourself" means you own your own garage space and tools. Don't bother renting space, it takes away from the budget and as Uncle Tony's Garage learned, you can have the place sold out from under you and 30 days to pack up dissassembled cars and parts accumulated over years isn't long enough. Learn real estate from online courses and go to those dumb local events at hotels to learn your local real estate market and nab a foreclosure or something. As for tools, hit the estate sales--get the old stuff that really was made in America, not down the bicycle path from where MallWart gets its crap made. Unfortunately the days of nabbing broken LL Bean stuff and Craftsmen tools for a buck and trading them in for brand new are done. But you can still walk around the deceased's house and see how he treated his equipment and know what you're getting--for less than even Harbor Freight (you can always return at the end of the day/weekend and whoever is in charge really wants to get the place empty for resale).
Many who want Foxbodies are old enough to be happy with a 12 second car and not needing a 1,000 bhp swap that costs more--easy enough to achieve with a pushrod 302 and Explorer heads and intake before a used power adder is included. There's a good point made about paint, but if the surface is smooth you can wrap. My mother had a 1985 white Ford Escort and the factory paint was crap--you could see the grey primer thru it like the tint had dripped down--because Ford was changing to EPA friendly paints. so you might find even factory paint isn't worth painting over for big bucks--check out some of Rustoleum's metallic paint line...with practice you might get a 50/50 paint job (50 feet away, or going by at 50 mph) or just go with a wrap until you get a better budget to start from bare metal and perfect gaps.
check out the big Ford vans converted to airport buses etc in your local boneyard, you may find 1985/cobra style tailights flipped over on the back. One side might be tinted by diesel exhaust otherwise they may be cheaper than repops--esp. if you want to try your hand at spray on tint/smoke kits.
I remember when 4 banger swaps weren't cheap unless you picked up a Mercury Cougar from that era so you could get "everything" or you found a fleet truck at auction with a 351W and tried to find an engine builder with leftover forged 302 pistons from someone's stroker rebuild. now, however, you'd have to replace half the old sensors anyway and the fuel pump was only 88lph and with folks doing spindle swaps (we used to use T bird lower control arms to get some neg camber into the front end) it's worth finding a 4 banger that wasn't whipped to death trying to keep up to friends with 305 camaros, be happy the torque boxes aren't torn out, and add in the used aftermarket parts you want to work with OEM stuff (like an 8.8 inch rather than hunt the classic 9inch and then weld on the brackets, use a 1979 manual rack and pinion rather than Flaming River's for twice the price, SN95 convertable subframe connectors etc).

The car turned out great! I am doing something similar with mine. I bought a low mileage 4 cyl 5 speed notch and I am the 2nd owner. It is super straight and has a newer paint job. I had a GT I bought years ago and it was a major project. I decided recently to part out the GT because the last owner beat the hell out of it and did some suspect things to it so I will use the parts for the notch. All together I would say I have about 6k in to it. At the end of the day the car will be what I wanted. Even if it was a original 5.0 car I would modify it anyway so I don't see what the big deal is why people give negative feedback between 4 and 8 cars.

    How times have changed...
I bought my 1989 1//2 5.0 5-speed LX notch BRAND NEW for under 10k, I still had room to purchase my Flowmasters, Saleen wing and Ram Air hood from Cervinis ( I saved a lot by picking up cuz I live in NJ) The Steeda ground effects put me over the10k.
I kept the special sport package (140 mph speedometer 89 😜) stock color 'Almond' because it was an absolute sleeper, especially with the tint. ARE BBS Mesh rims in black were added.
In December '91 I did a 5k value custom paint job in a Fuchsia pink with a blue pearl in the clearcoat... I could have never afforded it, but I paid for supplies, my brother is a professional auto body painter who specializes in custom paint. I LOVE my Pinkpony! I've been enjoying her for daecades! yes, I still have her and she is about tonbe rejuvenated! Over 30 years and only on my 2nd set of Flowmasters and 2nd clutch ..... We won't discuss how many sets of Gatorbacks I have turned into slicks 😜 ... Lol this Mama doesn't play! I still have only 93k miles, somehow less than my '06 Explorer 🤷🏼‍♀️ go figure

Hood pins always on these. I've had 8 , 4 coupes, once you have none or sell your "only child" it feels like you've lost your left arm.

They built millions of these things so you would think you would be able to find foxs in nice condition for a good price, but not really. It's either really hard to find or they're not available

That's a super clean conversion 👌 You should get rid of the lonely drivers side pin stripe... The passenger side without looks cleaner.

Definitely agree with you about finding a fox that doesn't need a complete respray paintjob. The days of getting a nice $4000 paintjob is long gone. PDR and a good paint correction goes along way to get thinks started
