  • This is how to recover files (undelete) from your computer. I use a cool free program called photorec to recover the data. You can recover movies, photos, mps, text, just about anything. Photorec has versions for window, linux, and mac so it should be similar to how I show you in Ubuntu.

    Old video but still a great tutorial. Accidentally deleted my entire Photos folder... and my wife would have been pissed about all our family pics being gone. It's estimating a 24 hour run time but I've already recovered a considerable amount of pictures.

    Thanks for making the video 4+ minutes only. Direct and to the point! Not adding 25 minutes of babbling like some do. I like that. Thumbs up!

      Man, its 2024 and what I wold give for content like this again. 25 minutes of babbling plus 30 minutes of ads.

    You should edit the title of your clip to include "testdisk" in it.
    Good thing I found your clip. I've wasted 72+hrs using testdisk, I was waiting for some options to show-up maybe after its scan. The extern-HDD was already hook-up to one of my linux machines here. It's an ntfs which thunar tried/failed to re-write permissions. It's always those vdi vbox disk that caused my problem in the past and would do a complete format to reuse my HDD. After the next 130hrs, I'll be able to do whatever;)

    this may or may not be of relevance to folks. I thought I had deleted a file, when in fact I simply renamed it with a "." (a period) at the beginning of the file name and this caused it to become a hidden file (unbeknowst to me, because I am so newbie). I literally was sobbing and researching for two hours until I came upon this realization that recovery was not needed, it was simply a necessity of Ctrl-H in the file structure... (Linux - Operating System)

    • @baemears5895
      @baemears5895 8 лет назад

      If you use the terminal it's also possible to show all hidden files by using the command 'ls' with the '-a' flag, i.e "ls -a".

    In one of my computers I installed ubuntu 14.04. Actually , I tried to dual-boot in along with windows 7 and I tried to do the partition during the ubuntu installation procedure.
    Now all of my 500 GB hard disk has been occupied by ubuntu and I cannot access windows. Since, I have all my documents in windows and I want to recover it. Will I be able to recovery my files of windows ? If yes, can you please help me with the solution ?

    This is the whole thing I am going through that turns people away from Ubuntu. They have 80 different ways of installing software and not one of them works. WTF!!! CLI wont download it, photorec doesn’t work but I can go to there site and download it and click on the stupid static file and testdisk opens and yet nothing for photorec. Getting tired of Ubuntu really quick.. WTF!
