Came across your tutorial and answered a lot of questions I had with this type of quilt. Thank you for all the information.
My first T-shirt quilt. I’ve been dragging my feet and my son is getting impatient to get his quilt. A light bulb kinda went off , for me , when I watched your video and I’m now inspired to get on it. Wasn’t too far into it as wasn’t sure what I was doing. Thanks to you , I’m ready now.
I have never seen a t shirt quilt that I liked until this design! It is so much more appealing than just a bunch of squares stitched together. I will make one soon! And I loved the graph paper to help with placement. It makes sense! Thank you for your time and expertise!
Thank you for this tutorial…I love the graph paper idea 👍
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I am in the process of making my first quilt ever, and it happens to her a T-shirt quilt! Your tips during the tutorial definitely helped me!! I think I can finish it with your tips! So thank you so much!! ❤
This is one of the best t shirt quilt I’ve seen .
I was searching t-shirt tutorials and absolutely love this one. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for showing me how to work with different sized blocks. I was stumped before I watched your video. Very clear instructions. Well done!!
I have been thinking of doing one, and really enjoyed watching and learning…. Luckily, I found you by accident and am now subscribed! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you am getting ready to tackle one..this was helpful!
Beautiful quiltI love the shadowing.
Very cool tshirt quilt!
Thank you ! This was great . I’ve always been fearful to do one of these , after watching this I can to this 👍
That is so clever with the graph paper. Thanks so much!
I just adore all the details you’ve demonstrated, I will do the shadow box method with graphic paper, my t-shirts are only about 20 yrs old, so no hurry but I’m not getting any younger ❤ thank you both
Great tutorial! I never thought of doing a shadow box for a T-shirt quilt. Boy was I surprised to see Kathy graph out her quilt the same way that I do! One thing that we do differently is that I use a lightweight non-woven interfacing and even then it can be a very heavy quilt! I'm glad I found you on You Tube!
Kathy great job on this tutorial…loved your shadow box idea for the T-shirt quilt. Your colors and fabrics were perfect. You and Lisa are a great team. Thank you so much! ❤️
Thank you so much for your excellent t-shirt quilt tutorial. You shared so many helpful tips. I immediately downloaded the interval timer! I’ve had a bunch of t-shirts for over a year and you’ve given me the confidence I needed to begin.
Thank you so much. I have done t shirts quilt your this the best . I'm will be making another one following your instructions. Thanks you .
Thank you for this !! I have just been asked to do this for my father in-law’s passing and I also have a bag of my sons T-shirts awaiting this!!! Thank you I learned how to do it 🪡🧵❤️
Very good tutorial. I wish I had seen it 5 months ago. I’ve made 2 TShirt quilts last fall and Christmas. I did a quilt as you go method. Thanks Lisa and Kathy. I would love to see a photo and other memorabilia in a memory quilt.
Great demonstration, Kathy! Very clear instructions. I have my niece’s tee shirts that I’ve been saving for about 10 years. After watching you, I might have nerve enough to start making the quilt. Thanks so much to both of you.
Fabulous tutorial. The shadow box made the design looked very professional and great design. I will finally work on a t-shirt of my sister for a gift. Thank you Kathy for showing us your technique and Lisa thanks for being her on and seeing her work.
Beautiful! When my brother passed away I was able to make a large tshirt quilt and pillow for each of his 3 grandchildren. I started with 75 shirts so I had enough.
This was very helpful. Thank you so much
Oops I already cut my blocks first before putting on the interfacing. I’m loving this quilt and I have different sizes so I’m really happy I came across your pattern!!! Thank you
I have two T-shirt quilts to make for my niece. Both boys are graduating this year and she wanted T-shirt quilts for them. I have made several before but like the idea of a shadow box. And love your layout suggestions…..along with the backing !!! Thank you so much. Now I can’t wait to get started…..
Great job, Kathy! I’ve made more than 100 t-shirt quilts. I’m going to try your method!
Amazing pattern and very clear instructions. Thank you Kathy and Lisa🌺👍
Kathy is always a fun person and gives very clear instructions! Great job, Kathy!
I love this, thank you for sharing.
This is a beautiful quilt, I would love to see you assemble it
Great to see. I have done a T-shirt quilt and about to do another for granddaughter.
Great ideas on how to lay it out as well as figuring out the size of sashing between the blocks.
Great job,Kathy! I’ve made more than 100 t-shirt quilts, none like this. I’m going to try this shadow box method!
Great instructions! Thanks Kathy!!
Thank you so much for an excellent tutorial! I have made T-shirt quilts before and have hated doing them. Your methods make it seem SO MUCH BETTER! I am inspired to try again some day!
This is so well done, just love how you did this Kathy....just brilliant!!
Making one right now and I think the interfacing to help with the stretch is a great idea.
Thank you so much for this great tutorial! I have been saving my kids t-shirts to make quilts with, but just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I have never seen the shadow box idea before and I love it 🥰! Thanks Kathy and Lisa for sharing your knowledge and talents.
This was a fantastic tutorial! Kathy does such a great job at instruction and I appreciate seeing what product work really well. Thank you so much!
Love it. I've been making t-shirt quilts for years but this one looks like so much fun. Thank you for all of your tips!!!!!
Thank you for a great tutorial! 🤩❣
Love the outfits!!
This was a great video. I have made t-shirt quilts before and enjoyed seeing how you did the shadow box effect. I'll be using it on my next one!!! Some people are afraid of these quilts but to me they are great puzzles - like most quilts!
This is a awesome tutorial. Thank you so much!!🥰❤️
Great tutorial.
Even a blue sofa! Nice
What a great tutorial, the T-shirt quilt is by far the best I have seen, thank u so much for sharing. I’m wondering if the same would work for a shirt quilt
Yes, I think so. If shirts were mostly cotton and not stretchy, you might not need the fusible interfacing. You could just use them like cotton fabric.
Thank you Kathy. Loved the tutorial. And thank you Lisa for having her on. Oh and one more thing thank you for the prize. Got one of the prizes you gave away on your last video. It’s the folding box soo cute. Kathy, Have you ever tried the shadow on top? The bottom looks fantastic just curious.
I haven't tried that, but think it would look good that way, too.
I've made about 20 tea shirt quilts lots of fun
Always wanted to do this!
Is the sashing stabilized too is it quilting cotton or tee shirt material?
Beautiful quilt, I love your idea. She had great taste in football teams. ❤️💛❤️💛
Thank you for your tutorial! I've watched numerous T-shirt videos and yours is by far the best I've watched. I have 3 quilts that I need to make. I love the shadowbox idea. What do you think about using flannel for the backing? Thank again ladies. I am so glad I stumbled across your video.
Love it- but now that my shadow blocks are done how do I figure out how to do sashing or whatever to join them> Especially when they are not linear but staggered.
I know I am a year late, but enjoyed the video-has anyone written a book with all this great info in it? Love the shadow look, Kathy! I am trying to get up enough nerve to make a quilt for my sister.
Beautiful T-shirt quilt! I am in the process of doing 3 T-quilts of Harley Davison T-shirts. My brother had a Harley along with a collection of Harley T's of various places he had traveled. He is now deceased and the T's are being repurposed into quilts for his grandchildren.
I have all my blocks ready and have prepared my graph layout. Mine will require lots of different sizes of background to be cut and sewn (similar to sashing I think) and will require many partial seams which are causing me greatconcern. Would you recommend doing the vertical or horizontal strips of backing fabric first?
Love this tutorial. Kathy, can you use a t-shirt that has been worn? Like mix new shirts and worn shirts. Thank you so much.
Yes, almost all of mine had been worn, and some were favorites! You can use them with no problem.
@@kathydecker889 Thank you. Yours look so new.
What fabric were the grays, please? I love that look more than the plain fabric backgound. The colors are great! Is it flannel or regular cotton?
I love to watch you two doing these videos together and I always learn so much! Kathy, what fabric did you use on the quilt that is hanging, please? I love that look more than the plain fabric backgound. The colors are great! Is it flannel or regular cotton?
Hi, I have a question does it matter what color of Fearick I use for the framing before the shadowboxing because I have T-shirts that are gray, black, blue and red. The school colors are blue and red. Mainly it’s for my grandsons graduation open house. He wants to hang it up Anyways I absolutely love your idea with the shadowboxing. Oh my gosh it’s amazing. I just love your quilt. This will be my second T-shirt quilt and I do have slightly different sizes a few smaller ones but then most of them are close but not exact. Anyways, I was thinking about using an off or a white, because I don’t think there’s any shirts that are white with that still work? thank you so much for sharing this
When using a sweatshirt, would you also use the interfacing behind it? Can't wait to try this! Love the tutorial!
Yes, I used the same interfacing behind the sweatshirts and sweater. Worked great!
Well I have not finished watching your tutorial yet this is the second video I’m watching
Most of my T-shirts do not have anything on the back and I think that’s a total waste of Fabric so I am thinking of cutting out the back at the same time as the front and then just doing a quilt as you go then I’ll have instant backing
Very nice video. Just research info this and it’s the 1st time I’ve heard of the Cotton interfacing. What type of needle do you use since your dealing with 2 different types of fabrics? Thanks.
That is a really good question I’m not really impressed with this channel they don’t seem to answer any of your questions
Enjoyed your instructions!
What is your thoughts on tieing t- shirt once top is finsh
You could tie it. You'll need a sharp needle to get through the t-shirts. You could also do a quilt-as-you-go method on a domestic machine.
Thanks
Hello so I have a question. I am making a tshirt quilt. My first one out of some old navy flag shirts. The quilt is going to be 6x6 (36 12 1/2 " squares in all). I have interfaced all my squares. I am just about at the point to start assembling the squares together. However, I'm having a bit of a pickle trying to figure out the best way to quilt this and put them together. I've been trying to find some quilt as you go videos and not sure if that would be the best way to go with this. If I do do the quilt as you go, would I need to cut out 14 inch squares of batting and 14 " squares of the backing fabric? And if I go that route, in order for it to look seamless, would I need to add sashing inbetween the squares? I'm really having trouble figuring out which way to go on this. Can you help? :-). Thanks in advance
I’m doing one for me grandson’s senior open house most of his shirts are blue or red with one green
What do you do if the neck banding is in the way?
Where are the links to sweatshirt pillow?
Can we use our own blue scraps?
Great tutorial! Why logo down when sewing?
I felt like it sewed a lot smoother. The t-shirt/interfacing next to the feed dogs just didn't work as well. Like Lisa said, kind of like plowing through snow!
What is the yardage you got for this quilt?
What was used as a backing? What weight batting?
Regular quilting cotton for the backing. I used the lightest weight of Quilter's Dream cotton batting. The quilt is pretty heavy and didn't need a thick batting.
What kind of batting did you use?
Quilters Dream Request
Do you sew in columns
I’d like to see photos put into a quilt. What technique do you prefer?
I already added a comment I was wondering about the color of the border earlier because I have T-shirts that are black, gray, blue and red and if I use the gray as the as a frame it won’t work on some of them so I was wondering if I could you know what color I should use and now I’m thinking maybe I could like on the red T-shirts I could put a blue frame and on the you knowlike the gray ones I could put a red frame and just kind of alternate the frame colors with that looks OK?
Also, I don’t know how I missed the little white square on there that’s crazy that you don’t even see those white squares in the quilt, so yeah I’m not even sure what color I’m Sashing I am gonna use because I’m thinking about using white so that would just blend in with it anyways, rightI’m really excited about this quilt so I’m sorry I probably left like four messages already. I’m really hoping you will help me out because I’ve already started putting the backing on my T-shirts and I’m over halfway done with that part and then I’ll be going onto the frames thank you have a blessed day.
