The end of MGS2 once we have beaten Solidus and Snake asks Raiden about the dog tags around his neck, it turns out to be the players name. That blew my mind as a teen.
The part where Psycho Mantis analyzed the way I play really was ahead of it's time. Also after that he rummages thru some of my saved data and telling me each Konami made game I played amazes me to this day.
Another great 4th wall was the fight against "The End" of MGS3, is you take more than a week fighting with him in real time he actually die in the game since he was already old. Or if you move the internal clock of the ps2 one week ahead.
"Meryl's codec number was the reason several people who rented the game got stuck" Not me. The game has only 198 codec frequencies (140.?? or 141.??) it takes just a couple of minutes to call all. And if you (like me) did it in order, Meryl's codec is only the 15th attempt.
Meryl's codec frequency is what got me, I remember being stuck for so long and running around the hanger looking for a "CD case". I ended up buying the strategy guide 😅 back when those were a thing and found out that way.
When I found Meryl’s codec code I did a huge eye roll lol. The colonel keeps saying “ it’s on the back of the package” I went all the way back to the beginning of the game thinking maybe snake dropped a package and I didn’t know then I literally looked at the back of the metal gear package and I saw it. Good times. It pissed me off but it was very clever
One of my favorite fourth wall breaks is where Bart Simpson dicoveres the game-manual to "The Simpsons Video Game" inside "The Simpsons Video Game". This game has a ton of fourth wall breaks but the first one caught me so off-guard while playing this awesome game for the first time it always stays in my memory. I just wasn't prepared that this game would brake the fourth wall.
Snake is an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros Brawl along with Captain Falcon, Falco, Ganondorf, Jigglypuff, Lucario, Luigi, Marth, Mr. Game & Watch, Ness, R.O.B., Sonic, Toon Link and Wolf
I just learned of "Mono TV" wall break in MGS, where if the player doesn't have a stereo tv during the hind mission, you call the staff and they tell you to listen for the direction of the rotor...and then seem to be dumbfounded that anyone would have a mono TV.
@3:02 I rented MGS at a Blockbuster before. I remember going.. OH SHI* in that part of the game. Yet, I don't remember how I found out that the code is also on the Blockbuster case, all typed in the cover paper sleeve thing.
When you are doing the trailing mission I’m Europe during curfew if you go to a large wooden door. You can hear someone playing MGS on the PS1. You can hear him say NOOO then the OG alert sound goes off
I like Snake from the Metal Gear video game series because he's a newcomer in Super Smash Bros Brawl along with Diddy Kong, Ike, King Dedede, Lucario Lucas Meta Knight, Olimar, Pit, Pokemon Trainer (Charizard/Ivysaur/Squirtle), R.O.B., Sonic, Toon Link, Wario, Wolf and Zero Suit Samus.
I was 14 or 15 when I played mgs2 when it came out. I will never forget when Colonel starts acting wacky and told me to turn off my console and that I've been playing to long. I honestly thought: A. Somehow I am now being watched by some higher power or the FBI. Or B. My PS2 and game was now a sentient being. I'll never forget how my stomach was turning and it really did mind eff me. I don't know why but I never did turn off the console while it was happening.
MGS was absolutely amazing, but MGS2 actually made me reset the ps2 as stupid young me thought the game had actually glitched at Arsenal Gear.....damn colonel!!!
The Meryl codec thing was also on the back of the big box sleeve of the first remake of the trilogy during PS2 times lol so the back of those cases was red, blue, and green graphics respectively and I was confused but they put it on the box sleeve that held the 3 cases together lol also I never thought about the problem ppl who rented it would have lol
not to mention with Meryl when they mention the CD case thing, you have just received the CD from president baker. so me as a kid not only didnt have the actual cd case, but i also assumed he meant "look on the back of the CD that president baker gave you"
Sooooo I remember looking up the Merly codec cheat in ‘01 and a site said how almost any game rental place had the code either on the back of the printed case or on the opposite side of the the printed front cover that had control layout.
On the Meryl number I had to do it the hard way try every number sad part is I had the cd case but was looking in game for it and didn't know what they were talking about
The first time I faced Psycho Mantis and he said "You like Castlevania, don't you?" I did a double-take as I thought "How did he know that?!" Of course I had a Castlevania: Symphony of the Night game saved on the memory card I was using.
I wonder if their is a in cannon explanation for the 4th wall breaks. Like when characters say”look in the back of the cd case” or when people talking about the controls where they saying “you use the action button to do a cqc slam”
If you want Fourth Wall Breaks try playing any Hyperdimension Neptunia video game ever or watching Hyperdimension Neptunia a.k.a. the anime retelling of the second and third Hyperdimension Neptunia game, Neptune from the Neptunia series as they shortened the series name to just Neptunia is a master of breaking the fourth wall and talking to either the player in case of the games or the viewer in case of the show.
Let's see your hours on your favorite game *reads my data for my game's* Wow you no life 1000 hour's on FALLOUT NV BIOSHOCK LEFT 4 DEAD 2 DEAD SPACE WTF!!!!!

If Snake actually gets a S-rank, Kojima will say "That was perfect" instead of "What took you so long?"
So in MGS2, when they told us to turn the game off… I did the first time. It’s still haunts me to this day. Hah!
I think we all did.. 😂
The end of MGS2 once we have beaten Solidus and Snake asks Raiden about the dog tags around his neck, it turns out to be the players name. That blew my mind as a teen.
Yep until you reach your second playthrough
I remember facing Psycho and he said that I play Castlevania and dies a lot. I was like “……well F*** you!”
The part where Psycho Mantis analyzed the way I play really was ahead of it's time. Also after that he rummages thru some of my saved data and telling me each Konami made game I played amazes me to this day.
If you played The Twin Snakes he reads games that aren't even Konami games lol
Another great 4th wall was the fight against "The End" of MGS3, is you take more than a week fighting with him in real time he actually die in the game since he was already old.
Or if you move the internal clock of the ps2 one week ahead.

They gotta bring this back on PS5. I love to relive the nostalgia 👍
i hate how psnow works.. i mean why dont juat let us buy the game, after all we are able to play it offline.. (not stream).
Good news...
They are!!!
Meryl's codec frequency is what got me, I remember being stuck for so long and running around the hanger looking for a "CD case". I ended up buying the strategy guide 😅 back when those were a thing and found out that way.
I played through it for the first time recently and I too was looking for that damn CD case xD
I tried every codec until I got it lol
They actually did it again on Ground Zeroes. In one of the "Deja Vu" mission memories
The Psycho Mantis bit was MIND BLOWING
When I found Meryl’s codec code I did a huge eye roll lol. " kept you waiting huh!" mgs v
Snake, snake, snaaaaaaaaake 🐍
Snake is an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros Brawl along with Captain Falcon, Falco, Ganondorf, Jigglypuff, Lucario, Luigi, Marth, Mr. Game & Watch, Ness, R.O.B., Sonic, Toon Link and Wolf
11:00 Fourth wall breaks have been a thing since the '70s
I just learned of "Mono TV" wall break in MGS, where if the player doesn't have a stereo tv during the hind mission, you call the staff and they tell you to listen for the direction of the rotor...and then seem to be dumbfounded that anyone would have a mono TV.
Every time I get back to Shadow Moses in MGS4 and The Best is Yet to Come starts playing I get goosebumps from head to toe without fail.
@3:02 I rented MGS at a Blockbuster before. I remember going.. OH SHI* in that part of the game. Yet, I don't remember how I found out that the code is also on the Blockbuster case, all typed in the cover paper sleeve thing.
Snake is also in Super Smash Bros Ultimate along with Banjo & Kazooie, Bayonetta, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Captain Falcon, Chrom, Cloud, Corrin, Daisy, Dark Pit, Dark Samus, Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong, Dr. Mario, Falco, Fox, Ganondorf, Greninja, Hero, Ice Climbers, Incineroar, Inkling, Isabelle, Jigglypuff, Joker, Kazuya, Ken, King Dedede, King K. Rool, Kirby, Link, Little Mac, Lucario, Lucas, Lucina, Luigi, Marth, Mario, Mega Man, Meta Knight, Mewtwo, Mii Fighters (3), Min Min, Mr. Game & Watch, Ness, Olimar, Palutena, Pichu, Pikachu, Piranha Plant, Pit, Pokemon Trainer (Charizard/Ivysaur/Squirtle), Pyra/Mythra, Richter, R.O.B., Robin, Rosalina & Luma, Ryu, Samus, Sephiroth, Sheik, Shulk, Simon, Sonic, Sora, Steve, Terry, Toon Link, Villager, Wario, Wii Fit Trainer, Wolf, Yoshi, Young Link, Zelda and Zero Suit Samus.
I immensely appreciate the master collection store page for having the Meryl Codec screenshot
When you are doing the trailing mission I’m Europe during curfew if you go to a large wooden door. You can hear someone playing MGS on the PS1. You can hear him say NOOO then the OG alert sound goes off
I love Metal Gear Solid’s forth wall breaks reminds me of Conker’s Bad Fur Day
Zygerians: You’re in a simulation in a simulation inside of another simulation.
Great idea for a list
I would have added the "truth" from MGSV to the list.
I like Snake from the Metal Gear video game series because he's a newcomer in Super Smash Bros Brawl along with Diddy Kong, Ike, King Dedede, Lucario Lucas Meta Knight, Olimar, Pit, Pokemon Trainer (Charizard/Ivysaur/Squirtle), R.O.B., Sonic, Toon Link, Wario, Wolf and Zero Suit Samus.

The codec was first used in Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake, might have included that one better
MGS was absolutely amazing, but MGS2 actually made me reset the ps2 as stupid young me thought the game had actually glitched at Arsenal Gear.....damn colonel!!!

Big Boss is also heard laughing when you'd fail the mission towards the end of MGS2
MGS2’s fourth wall break scared the fuck out of me
Never did I imagine a game would tell me to turn off the console
Creepy as hell
Sooooo I remember looking up the Merly codec cheat in ‘01 and a site said how almost any game rental place had the code either on the back of the printed case or on the opposite side of the the printed front cover that had control layout.

Dude!! I was so glad it was only the15th number lol
Solid snake is tough as nails and a dozen rocks
You can find him at your local cardboard box
I never knew about calling rose in mgs 4
The first time I faced Psycho Mantis and he said "You like Castlevania, don't you?" I did a double-take as I thought "How did he know that?!" Of course I had a Castlevania: Symphony of the Night game saved on the memory card I was using.
I had a turbo controller for the original mgs that ocelot couldn't detect, made that scene super easy.
*But I wanted the stealth camo anyway
I wonder if their is a in cannon explanation for the 4th wall breaks. Like when characters say”look in the back of the cd case” or when people talking about the controls where they saying “you use the action button to do a cqc slam”
S3
I never had any issues using auto fire controllers lol either on the ps1 original or the twin snakes lol
Fourth wall break inside a fourth wall break....that's like....16 walls
You could also have added the og metal gear's fourth walk break where big boss tells you to turn off the msx.
I never had the MSG1 cd case, so it took me FOREVER to figure out Meryl’s codec 😭
Kept you waiting Huh?

Meryl's codec is probably a soft form of copy protection, too.
Yo merryl codec should have been number1 I always thought it was the damn mo disc I went thru each codec frequency smh
Why didn't they ever do a fourth wall break for the original MGS if you had one of those very first controllers without the vibration function?
Oh hell yeah
i played MGS1 for the ffirst time on PS3, and buyed it via PSN Store.
it was fun for me to get the code for meryl as well.
13:00 I remember playing MGS2 whenI was like 10 years old and I freaked the f&@$ out and actually did turn off the ps2 😳🫠🤣
9:25 you will get an achievement if ur on ps3
Any store that sells or rents MGS1 withoutbthe CD case should be out of business!
Can you really break what was never there?
Yes you mark im sure you scared the shit out of a mark
some of the "4th wall breaks" are game self awareness or easter eggs in the game
how did you know?
Is he mocking us for liking the game?
Mgs is da BEST

Ummm
