In his training session with Dooku, the man gives Grevious a lecture about fighting Jedi. Force users pretty much have minor precognition whenever they fight, among other abilities.
So the only way he can stand a chance against even one, let alone several, is through immense fear and however many surprises he can fit in that seemingly bare-bones body to keep them from focusing.

"Why didn't he fight like this against Obi Wan" in the novels he did.
In the novels Grievous used his cyborg brain to generate a wholly original attack pattern. An also wholly randomized attack pattern. With no style to guess and too many blades to use Force Precognition on, Obi Wan had to rely exclusively on Force Speed and Soresu to defend himself as Grievous unleashed 30-50 attacks every second. Within Obi Wan's internal monologue we find out each attack hit with enough force to make it feel like Obi Wan's shoulders would shatter from the effort of blocking them. But he did. He blocked, dodged, or parried every single attack as Grievous unleashed it in perhaps one of the three greatest displays of swordsmanship in the entire history of the Jedi Order.

I love that 2003 Clone Wars treats Grievous like he’s the monster in a horror movie. The series actually came out before Episode III, so for a lot of folks like me this is how we remember first seeing him 😂
And yeah, as you see at the end, Windu tries to crush his lungs, and while Grievous survives he gets fucked up pretty bad, crippling him and resulting in his signature cough. Thus why he’s weaker and more cowardly in Episode III.

From what I've learned, apparently when Genndy was making this mini-series, the only thing he had to go on for Grievous was his design, so he took that and ran with what he saw in it, a Jedi-hunting super-predator. Lucas eventually stepped in and retconned the crap out of that idea, saying he didn't want another Vader and had been hoping for more of a skulking villain that twirls his mustache and schemes in backrooms. (How the hell he thought that was communicated with that sort of design is anyone's guess.) Hence, Clone Wars made him always an overconfident bungler of a fighter, rather than a murder cyborg Mace force-crushed into an asthmatic.
More's the pity. This is easily some of the most amazing animation Genndy ever put out, and it was retconned out of canon.

The Force, light or dark, is the equalizer here. It's the one thing he can't stop. Even here, when he does get hit, it's the force that gets himself. Lightsaber technique alone won't do it.
Kenobi was the undisputed master of defensive lightsaber technique. The lack of adequate defense in Qui-Gon's preferred technique led to his death at the hands of Maul. Ever since then, Kenobi has dedicated every spare moment towards mastering Soresu, the ultimate defensive lightsaber technique. With the aid of the force, a true master is basically invincible, but will never win the fight since he's never attacking. Kenobi is capable of surviving grievous, but not defeating him. Not in a straight up duel anyway, and certainly not without the force to aid him.
Maul uses a very aggressive, rage fueled technique that is favored by many Sith (Dooku being a notable exception). It is popular among the people who wield a double bladed lightsaber, but is not exclusive to them.
On the battlefield he becomes a force of nature. Very powerful, but difficult to control, and completely lacking in finesse.
Dooku uses Makashi, a form akin to fencing that is specifically designed to combat a lightsaber wielding foe, and is perhaps the finest practitioner of the style alive.
Grievous himself doesn't use any particular style, switching them up randomly, or even attacking with many different styles simultaneously, relying on his mechanical might to overcome his foe. Without Kenobi's impenetrable defense or Dooku's flawless technique, Grievous is very hard to stop.
Lord Sidious absolutely despises lightsabers in general, preferring to use the full power of the force instead. He's more than capable of wiping the floor with Maul, even without a lightsaber. When he does break out the saber, it's to insult h
is opponent more than anything else.
Could Maul defeat this Grevious? Perhaps, but only with the aid of the force. It would certainly be an epic fight no matter what.

I truly appreciate everything you said here. I’m not a biased guy and you seem the same. There’s some matchups (what ifs) that I don’t agree with. My argument is what you wrote. The force is one of the main factors that decide the outcome. I listened to someone read a novel about the fight between Maul & Qui Gon. The novel got into the minds of both fighters. I can’t remember which of them said it but the force had chosen it’s victor. Also reading what you said so in the video that would explain why Dooku was able to tame grievous easily. His form has great finesse & control. Last thing how do you think Phantom Menace Maul would fare against this Dooku? In my opinion I think Maul was at his best in TPM

    • @arielwilson9293
      @arielwilson9293 Год назад +5

In a one on one lightsaber duel, Dooku is incredibly difficult for anyone to defeat. He's just too skilled. And as he is also a Sith Lord, the Force is out as an equalizer. Yoda, Kenobi, Skywalker, and Mace Windu (at their episode 3 skill levels) are, perhaps, the only Jedi I can see having a good chance of winning against Dooku 1v1, and I can easily see any of those four as capable of defeating Maul (or at the very least not losing to him). Keep in mind, these four (and Dooku) are exceptionally skilled, perhaps the finest masters of their respective techniques in this era.
The metaphorical sword and shield combo of Kenobi and Skywalker combined are what ultimately defeats Dooku, and Yoda can fight him to a stalemate. (He WAS Dooku's master after all. Plus, it's Yoda!)
Mace Windu actually uses a light-side variant of the aggressive rage fueled style used by Maul, (he feeds on his opponents rage rather than his own) and was known to be a frequent sparring partner of Dooku back in his Jedi days, so that's actually a fairly even match.
So, could Maul win against Dooku? I am of the opinion that if it's a fair fight, Dooku probably wins most of the time, but not always. He's too good at what he does, and while Maul's rage makes him powerful, it makes him predictable. To someone like Dooku, that is very exploitable, especially for the post Naboo Maul. Pre Naboo, Maul had far more self control, but much less practice against skilled lightsaber wielding opponents.
A theory I heard recently that I quite like is that Darth Vader is the perfect blend of Maul's rage, Dooku's skill, and the mechanical might of general grievous.
On a side note, Christopher Lee is legitimately a classically trained fencer; he even made a few suggestions on set to make his duels look more epic. Notice he always holds his saber in one hand? The curved hilt is also more comfortable for that style of combat. That's a truly skilled duelist behind the actor!

You see there are two star wars Timelines Legends (when star wars belongs to George Lucas) and Canon (After Disney bought it)
    1) This particular incarnation of Grievous is from Legends continuity. You see George Lucas wanted to create hype for Revenge of the Sith (2005), the last film in prequel Trilogy. So he gave Cartoon Networks a project, that was to create micro star wars show (each episode 1 minutes long, would later extended to 3 - 12 minutes). Cartoon Networks put their best man Genedy Tartoskvy on the job.
So Genedy created this masterpiece, a ruthless cyborg Jedi killer that would struck fear into the hearts of audience. Unfortunately George Lucas didn't agree with Genedy's idea of a horror movie villain. He wanted more of mustache twirling Cartoon villain, that would run like a coward when his plans are foiled.
So in the final episode they had *Jedi Master Mace Windu force crush the plates covering Grievous's internal organ sac, causing the duranium steel to cut his lungs, which aggravated the General's already irritating wheezing and coughing problems; a result of his organic form not taking well to his cyborg implants. This crippling blow injured Grievous for the rest of his life-which would not be long.*
Since Revenge of the sith takes place just a few hours after the final episode of the clone wars 2003. We get our cowardly General Grievous that we all know all love. Then again I can't blame him for runniy, dude was too injured to put up a proper fight.
    2) Now the 2007 clone wars series is from Canon Timeline, where things happen differently from the legends timeline. Here the writer's follows George Lucas's concept of a cowardly mustache twirling villain. So the Grievous in this universe was already a coward form the beginning, so his acting like a coward is justified.
The turned our boy from a Chad to Virgin. Huh keep it up Disney, keep it up.

      @RockzillaGaming  Год назад +6

A Chad to a virgin 😂. I read every word and I appreciate it dude. Grievous was a Stud at one point I see. Do you think he wanted him cowardly cause he didn’t want anything to come close to being as fearsome as Lord Vader ?

    • @anshunath3290
      @anshunath3290 Год назад +7

@@RockzillaGaming The reason George Lucas wanted Grievous as a virgin was because it made his job easier.
Anakin will have to survive Revenge of the Sith and become the durasteel monolith known as Darth Vader, otherwise it will break the plot. If he faced Grievous, there was a good chance that Anakin would have died, in universe (in the star wars universe) even Palpatine was worried about that, so he orchestrated the events of clone wars such that Anakin and Grievous never came face to face until Revenge of the sith. Because an outright duel would end in Anakin's loss. I don't know if you know this, but in *Labyrinth of evil* novel, *Grievous even with his mobility greatly hampered was capable of stalemate Mace Windu, the same Mace Windu who defeated Palpatine fair and square, as stated by George Lucas.*
If they kept Grievous this strong, Revenge of the Sith would end in the first 10 minutes, with Grievous adding Obi wan's and Anakin's lightsaber to his collection. So nerfed him so that it will lead to Anakin's survival and would also later allow Obi wan to kill this weakened Cyborg. Hence the story of the movie can go on smoothly without any additional problems.
*George also don't know what to do with such a powerful villain.* George was someone who preferred cartoonish concepts such as Light and Dark, Good always beating the evil etc. A horror movie villain filled with psychological thriller and kept in point with reality was not in something he has in his vision of ideal star wars.
*And yes, they can't have some no name Jedi Killer Cyborg outshine their Poster boy Anakin/Vader.*
So the Upgrade from Sigma to Beta

prime maul vs grievous[2003] at his prime too?
    oof, I don't honestly know.
maul had very little training as he [like grievous] was chosen as an adult but the real factor here is
maul actually has force, grievous doesn't.
But on the flipside grievous is a WAY better fighter since he man handled a fuck ton of clones and more then "2" jedi.
[around 9 jedi, 2 instantly killed, 7 on screen killed and 2 jedi masters fought to their defeat, not killed but defeated].
its really comes down to if grievous[2003] can get close enough to actually kill maul or not, like maul has a ton of force powers to keep him at bay but if he can turtle though it maul is way outmatched in saber to saber combat.
but like one force lightning, or force crush and its over.
but grievous is also really really fucking fast.
so you'd have to get lucky like windu did and catch him off guard.
[also not saying windu isn't strong he is 100% but him jumping down from the rafters like he's goddamn batman would scare the shit out of anybody]
anyways, like i said it just comes down to if grievous can get close enough to hit him.

Classic General Grievous it's example of how to trample a brutal character with a huge potential into the mud and ignore him for decades. Seriously, Disney even deleted a couple of videos from RUclips, in which the difference between first Grievous and next two was shown too well (one was returned). It seems that the company's management hates General and especially version of 2004 (yes, character appeared on April 8, 2004).
Without exaggeration, Classic General Grievous is one of the strongest warriors of his time. Unstoppable force, jedi killer without Force. Only Sidious, Yoda and Mace Windu are capable of defeating him alone; Darth Tyranus, Plo Koon and Darth Vader will face him in a draw. All the other jedi and sith alone will never defeat him. How did it happen? Let's say thank you to Tyranus!
Dooku didn't teach Qimaen how to defeat jedi, he taught him how to kill jedi. Since the cyborg-kaleesh has no Force, he needs a special approach, the most effective in fight even against strong jedi. Psychological breaking. As Count said: *"...If you want to succeed in combat against of the best of the jedi, you most have FEAR, SURPRISE and INTIMIDATION on your side. For if any one element is lacking, it would be best for you to retreat. You must break them, BEFORE you engage them..."*
One day Grievous went against his principle and cruelly paid for it. When Mace appeared, Grievous had only intimidation on his side, and surprise played against him; he was need to retreat, but he challenged. And motherfucker crashed his metal chest, along with his heart and lungs.
Of course, Grievous is nothing compared to the ancient sith: Andeddu, Malak, Revan, Traya, Nihilus, Sion, Bane, Malgus, Jadus, Marr, Nox, Tenebrous, Plagueis and someone else. But I ask a good question: *"How all they are strong WITHOUT Force?"*
Let's imagine that in a far-far away Galaxy there is one planet that any forceuser tries to avoid, because the Force does not work there. Aura of the planet suppresses the Force even at a distance of hundreds of thousands of kilometers from orbit. Now imagine that any powerful forsyuser from the known ones flew to it, and unfortunately, Grievous was waiting for him/her there. Nothing will change for the cyborg-kaleesh - it will be same battle as on a dozen other planets. But his opponent will have to rely only on fencing and mobility. None of them will lose to him, but neither will any of them beat him; he's too agile, tactful and patient. Now imagine if Classic Grievous had Force...
And one interesting fact: The story of Qimaen jai Sheelal, that's the real name of Grievous, is very similar to the story of Simon Bolivar - leader of liberation revolution in South America against Spanish dependence in XIX century.

Grievous in the 2003 show was a part of a micro series made to promote Revenge of the Sith, this show was later made noncanon. The reason Grievous is such a coward in canon was because George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, wanted Grievous not to be a formidable and feared Jedi killer, he wanted Grievous to be a generic, mustache-twirling villain. Why he would want bad writing, I will nevr know.

Here’s a hot take: 4 lightsabers isn’t any more effective than dual wielding. Something I don’t think a lot of people consider about any extra blade is you have to know EXACTLY where the other blades are going to be at any given time. Are you guarding for another attack, preparing for another one, or are you just showboating? And most importantly, exactly how much strength and commitment are you putting into any of those actions?
That’s why Dooku had such a bias against dual wielding, and that’s not unique to Star Wars. Dual wielding as a trope is usually just there for the flash, and is generally frowned upon IRL too. The quarterstaff on the other hand. It’s had better on screen performance than dual wielding AND it’s a practical weapon IRL. So yeah, W for Maul on this one

Ngl i think this Grievous would win he was faster than the force and reacts even faster due to parts of his brain being mechanised and replaced to make him think, act and attack faster than even the force.
Ofcource Mace surprise attacking him heavely crippled him and he most likely barely survived his lungs being stabbed with metal in his organs (repairing that kind of damage is almost impossible), that is why he is rather cowardly he is barely breathing and his hearth had been damaged heavely, making him quiet understandably be in pain as just breathing for him is difficult.
He is after the force crush fighting at his very worst, he is propably in large amounts of pain when he breathes and speaks making him react far slower than he should be.

Adi-Mundi and Shaak Ti were legit but still not on a Obi Wan and co level. He would also survive a devastating Force blast and being buried under stone rubble by Shan. His biggest feat though: Storming the Jedi Temple with an army of Sith Warriors and sacking it. Grievous won't be able to surprise, intimidate or make Maul scared. So right off the bat he's at a disadvantage. Maul is at least as good a duelist as Obi-Wan and is incredibly strong in his own right (both in Canon and in the old EU). Anyone who thinks Grievous has a chance is just being a fanboy.
There's a reason why Windu stomped him. Grievous (when he's being written correctly) cannot stand up to powerful force users who are still balanced.

The problem with even this version of Grievous beating Maul is that he uses fear, surprise, and intimidation to hamper the Jedi's connection to the Force. That's how he contends with Council-level Jedi Masters. However, this would have the OPPOSITE effect on Maul, as he is a Dark Side user and gets off on fear. He'd crush Grievous like a soda can with the Force.

If Maul was ever to meet 2003 Grievous for a duel, Maul would also get the Genndy Tartakovsky power upgrade like every single character in 2003 Clone Wars has. Dooku still trains Grievous as his master in this. So, the big question is who was better trained by Sidious? Darth Maul or Count Dooku? I don't see Grievous beating Maul.
