I really love the ending of Sonny Boy. Nagara knew nothing of what happened while they drifted would have an effect in the real world but what matters is that it changed them. He and Mizuho are not the same even if the world is the same. And that's how life works. You might go through the most intense life changing event and the next day the sun will come out like it did yesterday and people will go on with their daily routines. The world won't change even if you do. And that's okay. I think that's just one piece of why so much time and effort was dedicated to the running scene-it's like, this is it, this is what we've been waiting for. they choose to return, they choose to leave paradise, they choose to risk it all if only for a chance at living with themselves and growing and possibly so much pain but so much happiness. I feel one of the themes of this show is to reject fantasy and accept real life with all its happiness and sadness, in all its greatness. There are not many works that can show life in both their highs and lows in such a straight way. It doesn't preach to you. It doesn't delve into misery. It's sincere, it's human. It's made me think about the way I see life and how I interact with others. Something that can feel haunting and make you despair but it's part of life and growing up is about realizing that the world goes on. Every day is filled with possibilities but also every day is just another day you just have to choose to live and see what happens. Anyway, watch Sonny Boy. This is gem.
