I’ve been camping since I was a kid and I’m now 70 years old. I still learn something new every time I head to the woods. My recommendation is, camp your own camp. Do what feels right for you. Everyone has different views on camping. Some car camp, others like RV’s and others like tents, hammocks or sleeping under the stars. Try a few different scenarios and you’ll find the one that is right for you. I have been hammock camping for the last 15-20 years and love it. It has a leaning curve but it offers me the best camping experience of everything I have ever tried. To each their own. Do what you are comfortable with. The main point is to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. It’s the best classroom . Nature will always teach us something. Enjoy!
This makes me so happy! I love seeing people trying new things, having fun, and learning new skills! As a somewhat experienced camper, I can tell you that you absolutely do NOT suck, you have some good instincts, and I wish you many more (warmer!) nights under the stars! More, please!
Now this is camping! If you can keep it up, this is going to be my New favorite channel. Definitely subscribed and can't wait to watch the sequel. Thank you for posting this.
Such a cool video, I look forward to more! What i will say is to always be on the lookout for bears regardless of your location, they smell everything you cook or leave behind.
I would suggest a larger tent, much larger. A 9 person or so sized tent. That tent you had is for backpacking. You have a truck, get a big tent. I am a bit older than you but I have achieved the same build. Sleep system is key to a good camping trip. Get a large cot with a self inflating mattress pad for some of the best sleep you have ever had. Also with that bigger tent you have a place to relax in case of rain.
This only the beginning next thing you know your searching for a remote area to camp.. no cars, no neighbor radio, good video though man hop you continue to do theses videos would like to see you expand your skill and knowledge of camping and possibly bushcraft
I am glad to see you giving camping a try! We all start out in the same place, but learn as we go! Some who enjoy it, continue and those who don’t enjoy it , stay at home! I hope you keep giving it a go, because you seem like the perfect person who learns as you go and will adjust to it! Having as positive attitude as you have will go a long way. Now that you have a clue, research and get the gear you need that suits you, but I warn you, chasing gear is habit forming and will become a full blown addiction if you let it. Their are tons of videos dedicated to this disease!😂😊
You have a contagious attitude my friend! I'm glad I stumbled upon your video. Look forward to watching more. You definitely have a big future in RUclips. Keep up the great work.
I think you did fantastic for your first solo video. I used to sleep on a yoga mat. These days I would use a cot. Keep at it. Fresh air and exercise will be great for your health. Bring a shovel. You can put out a fire by shovelling dirt on it. I bring lots of extra water. Since you are in the truck you have the room. Good video! I look forward to more.
I just want to say, continue being yourself in these videos, and you'll go a long way. I'm subscriber 605, and oddly enough, my area code is 605. (South Dakota)
Jeezus, it’s like watching myself only I haven’t actually got around to camping. Bought the gear about 3 years ago & watched the clips but.. nah 😂 Great vid dude 👍
I’m 65 and started camping as a kid. Just do what makes you comfortable. A tiny grill ($20 at dollar general or Walmart) makes a good fireplace. They are like 20-24 inches across. Or hibachi style is rectangular and a bit more sturdy. The sleeping pad will keep you comfortable and make for a much more enjoyable campout! Good luck!❤TN Nana
That looks like a great spot! I agree with your sentiment! Especially the part about being packed in like sardines lol. Great video! Thank you for sharing! I just hit that like and subscribe button! Looking forward to seeing some more vids in the near future! -Rob
"Bolonya". Bolonga....like the sauce. Bolognese sauce. My mouth was open in shock when you described how you were going to cook it and while you were actually cooking it. :D This video had that "First day in Minecraft" feeling of not really knowing what you're doing, but it certainly made for an entertaining video. You were at the same time overprepared and underprepared. I'd definitely be interested to see how you get on from here. Good luck!
Let me be the next subscriber! I like your attitude and demeanor. I noticed from the comments everyone likes you and wants to help and encourage you. As do l. So my suggestion for an almost free fireplace is go to a garage sale and get a small BBQ. Use that as a firepit. You're a logical young man, you'll do well pilgrim.
Great video new here. Next time you cook that try a little water in that pan on mid high with a lid to steam it. Should cook them same. I've cooked pasta noodles for spaghetti like that before. Much love from southern Indiana. Will definitely be watching you.
That looks like some strong coffee! I was an eagle scout growing up but am going camping for first time in like a decade next week, so the algorithm landed me here lol.
Good on you for getting out there man!! Definitely get an air pad for sleeping and a pillow!! There’s a million pillow choices! They make raised folding campfire pits that are lightweight! Keep experimenting you’re doing great!
Bro brought the skillet from home 😂😂 It's all good man, glad you had a good time. A thermocell is definitely worth it, I bow hunt in Sept in the swamps of North Carolina and won't leave the house without mine.
Sorry to hear that you didn't have the greatest sleep however overall it was a great step out for the first time and hopefully you get a chance to get out again it just keeps getting better and better
This video is Fantastic !!! Thanks so much for sharing. Keep up the good work and and all the answers to your questions are on RUclips. I subbed you after the first ten minutes. Stay safe
You did great! for a fire-pit, I have a UCO Firebowl and a flatpack fire pit, either should do what you want.. in an environment like this one, I'd put a foil bake-pan underneath the fire to provide additional protection for the ground. I'm also a portly fellow. not fond of bivvys, more of a regular tent or hammock kinda guy. hope to see you out again, you're an inspiration.
Love the Steve Wallace reference..knew it was coming when you started explaining. At 35 I bought a piece of remote property. I tent camped it in the mud and rain many times...now I built a cabin on it. I also agree with you on "camp grounds" there basicly trailer parks.
Maybe someone has already said this, but use the 5-W’s. Water- like creeks, rivers, or lakes you can obtain drinking water. Wood- for camp fires etc… Water Closet- a place to take a dump. Widow Makers- tree limbs over where your sleeping or dead trees that can smash you to death. Wild Life- game trails where animals you don’t want to meet up with at Oh dark thirty. (Stay away from those trails)!😊
The next time you go camping, pack a piece of aluminum foil to use as a lid over your pizza. It will help melt the cheese and warm the pepperoni slices.
You had me at hello when I started watching your video I was hoping that you were a camping channel. You’re making a pretty cool video. I think you need to do some more of this.
Love watching your vids mate, really bummed that you sold your off-grid cabin. I was always looking forward to a new installment... You've come a looong way and come out of your shell, since the early vids, good to see you're making your way in the world my friend. PS: Here in Aus it gets to around 100f-115f on a hot Summer day.
I like your vibe man. Much as I hate using that word lol. Keep making stuff its very unique in a flooded market of every rich kid running from mommy and daddy all reviewing the same 2 tents on a loop and talking about the same exact things over and over for years.
You did a pretty good job for your first solo. A couple options are for $20-30 you can get a twig stove or stainless folding fire pit. Then for around another $15-25 you can get a fire proof mat to put under it. A shovel to put out a fire and look up building a Dakota fire pit as an option as well. They make some light backpack cots with a lot profile that may fit in your tent. Definitely an inflatable mat would help. Check out Luke at The Outdoor Gear Review he 43:07 tests a lot of great on his you tube channel
Hey man no need to be so hard on yourself, there is no proper way to camp, you do it cause you enjoy it & soaking in your surroundings and being at one with nature..similar to what u mentioned earlier in the video. The experience I always encourage to others who have not done it, it is very self soothing n motivational in my opinion! Props man
Like your video. Camping is always an experience. You can get some good MRE meals to take camping. They make them pretty tasty now and you just add water to them. Makes meals easier for camping if you don't want to actually cook.
I am getting ready to set up a solid shelter and live full time camperooing lol. It's all about the time you have why there. Enjoy yourself take in the nature and God's natural art. Temu has alot of great stuff I was surprised but I have et up a few bug out bags and gotten alot of useful things from there from survival to personal hygiene stuff. God bless u buddy. 🙏
Had to laugh about that “…novel way of making coffee” at 30:40 . It’s been the Italian way of doing “real” espresso for ages. As long as you liked it. - While camping with a truck,… why not bring a bigger tent? A bit more space and a more comfy mattress will improve the sleeping experience a lot! Enjoy your future camping!
If you wanna learn how to camp, watch Luke at the Outdoor Gear Review. He is THE best on youtube at it, and has more vids of him DOING IT than anyone else does.
First time watching any of your videos and i loved this one! Im subscribed now. And if ur looking for a way to make a small safer fire order a stivk stove. Titanium stove that folds up and u only need sticks. Can set stove up on a rock or something. Anyway,,great video and i laughed SO HARD watching u try to open ur bag for dinner 😁
Your table is a bit overkill! It is lucky your not a backpacker! I would pay to watch you carry that in your pack! Lol!😂 they make metal fold out camp fire boxes that are packable. I have one from Amazon and it did not cost much. I carry it when car camping and it leaves no trace, plus it is safer than a ground fire. Keep getting out there. I subscribed to follow your progress or lack there of!😊
14:08 you have all the gear seems you are having fun maybe 🤔 you could do more camping videos seems you might have found a nitch you could be a great camper dude

Good advice I have done most all types of camping and after mixing a couple up I feel safe and enjoy the experience alone most of the time lol
Camp Wal Mart . Least you won't go hungry ! 😅
Awesome advice, Sir.
I hope he takes your advice.
This makes me so happy! I love seeing people trying new things, having fun, and learning new skills!

Love how raw this is. Keep it up, try new things, you are getting out more than me so far this year. Gotta sub.
Looks like fun man! I love seeing videos like this of someone deciding to do something and not letting being alone stop you. Awesome dude.

Get a topper for your truck. Easy camping- a real mattress, pillows. inexpensive (except topper) and a lot of fun. Nice video. Onward and upward!

Im from SW Missouri and this will be my first year solo camping. I imagine it will be a learning experience for sure

I have been camping my entire life and at 57 I am still learning😂 nothing to it but to do it. Just enjoy it and don't worry about the small stuff.

If you want a small contained campfire look at getting a twig stove. You can have a campfire feel and can even cook on it if you want.
This is for the recliner chair crowd, it's a modern bushcraft method
It's a definite learning curve. Great video and great job!

I wish I had a place like that near my home noise or not. Your a lucky man
Well I hope you continue your camping adventures because I really enjoyed watching this video 👍
I like your definition of camping, wild camping
Camping is however and whatever you enjoy!! You looked like you enjoyed yourself and that’s the point! Great job!
That looks like some strong coffee! I was an eagle scout growing up but am going camping for first time in like a decade next week, so the algorithm landed me here lol.

That Coleman Big Game sleeping bag is great for car camping.

Just a suggestion... Pick up a couple cast iron pans. Look up camping meals. There are a lot you can make in foil wraps.
The next time you go camping, pack a piece of aluminum foil to use as a lid over your pizza. It will help melt the cheese and warm the pepperoni slices.
You did a great job my friend.
you can buy a propane fire pit. they work great, no sparks to start forest fire. lol
Your doing awesome job so far thanks for your videos

2:16 yeah, I probably won’t have a fire in that spot either. It could really go up and flames in a hurry.
Pickup a firebox for a small fire and you can cook with it.
You did really awesome on your camping outing. Look at the bright side you didn't get trampled by animals crossing the trail. Thanks for sharing.
You did a pretty good job for your first solo.

A campfire is nature’s tv.
How about a Smokey Joe 14" portable grill with an emergency fire blanket under it for safety? *not tested, just an idea.🔥

Busy campgrounds are the same as a block party. No thanks. Lol
do some more camping videos

Bring in your shoes. Animals will carry them off. Very good video. Subbed.
great video. Keep them coming
Even better- A truck bed topper and a tarp . I attach one to the side of my truck and have a nice little fire just outside the tarp area
If you wanna learn how to camp, watch Luke at the Outdoor Gear Review. He is THE best on youtube at it, and has more vids of him DOING IT than anyone else does.

love the vibe, also i have the same lunch box :D
Dig a dackota fire pit
A good air mattress will help you out. I'm a very small person but I have sleep disorders (and I'm old) and a good air mattress is a game changer.
If ur happy !!! Thats all that matters !!! Don’t quit…
If you get a gazelle pop out & a kazoom smokeless pit. You'll be camping like a BOSS.
It's like watching Michael Moore trying to teach Ron Swanson how to go camping.
Fun video. Just subscribed.

With a truck a table is never over kill ha
If it's for the first time, why don't you camp in a public camping site
Hay you are using a Steve WALLes analysis. Good job & good video
I forgot wind- that maybe blowing into your tent or camp fire. Sorry!😊
Outlaw Camper sent me here ✌️
All you need is a cover so the pizza cooks even.
Here's a tip to prevent mosquito bites from swelling and itching: Rub some of your own saliva onto the spot where you got bit. It actually works.

Who doesn't love the sound of a Harley Davidson that's un American buddy camping or not...

Just one little tip always bring little extra water Evan if you don’t need it l always do

Dude I don’t know what the hell I just watched.😳
Oh wow first few minutes making me dizzy as hell !!! 😩 😵💫

You wére hilarious. Keep experimenting have fun and stop talking about forest fires and scaring the trees.
Just some advice, put your camera on a tripod so its not moving all over the place..hard to watch..
Good job.almost anything can be cooked in a pan. A lid would of helped with the pizza.
