I’ve been camping since I was a kid and I’m now 70 years old. I still learn something new every time I head to the woods. My recommendation is, camp your own camp. Do what feels right for you. Everyone has different views on camping. Some car camp, others like RV’s and others like tents, hammocks or sleeping under the stars. Try a few different scenarios and you’ll find the one that is right for you. I have been hammock camping for the last 15-20 years and love it. It has a leaning curve but it offers me the best camping experience of everything I have ever tried. To each their own. Do what you are comfortable with. The main point is to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. It’s the best classroom . Nature will always teach us something. Enjoy!

As a somewhat experienced camper, I can tell you that you absolutely do NOT suck, you have some good instincts, and I wish you many more (warmer!) nights under the stars!
    More, please!

I would suggest a larger tent, much larger. A 9 person or so sized tent. That tent you had is for backpacking. You have a truck, get a big tent. I am a bit older than you but I have achieved the same build. Sleep system is key to a good camping trip. Get a large cot with a self inflating mattress pad for some of the best sleep you have ever had. Also with that bigger tent you have a place to relax in case of rain.

I am glad to see you giving camping a try! We all start out in the same place, but learn as we go! Some who enjoy it, continue and those who don’t enjoy it , stay at home! I hope you keep giving it a go, because you seem like the perfect person who learns as you go and will adjust to it! Having as positive attitude as you have will go a long way. Now that you have a clue, research and get the gear you need that suits you, but I warn you, chasing gear is habit forming and will become a full blown addiction if you let it. Their are tons of videos dedicated to this disease!😂😊

I think you did fantastic for your first solo video. I used to sleep on a yoga mat. These days I would use a cot. Keep at it. Fresh air and exercise will be great for your health. Bring a shovel. You can put out a fire by shovelling dirt on it. I bring lots of extra water. Since you are in the truck you have the room. Good video! I look forward to more.

I’m 65 and started camping as a kid. Just do what makes you comfortable. A tiny grill ($20 at dollar general or Walmart) makes a good fireplace. They are like 20-24 inches across. Or hibachi style is rectangular and a bit more sturdy. The sleeping pad will keep you comfortable and make for a much more enjoyable campout! Good luck!❤TN Nana

"Bolonya". Bolonga....like the sauce. Bolognese sauce. My mouth was open in shock when you described how you were going to cook it and while you were actually cooking it. :D
This video had that "First day in Minecraft" feeling of not really knowing what you're doing, but it certainly made for an entertaining video. You were at the same time overprepared and underprepared. I'd definitely be interested to see how you get on from here. Good luck!

You did great! for a fire-pit, I have a UCO Firebowl and a flatpack fire pit, either should do what you want.. in an environment like this one, I'd put a foil bake-pan underneath the fire to provide additional protection for the ground. I'm also a portly fellow. not fond of bivvys, more of a regular tent or hammock kinda guy. hope to see you out again, you're an inspiration.

Maybe someone has already said this, but use the 5-W’s. Water- like creeks, rivers, or lakes you can obtain drinking water. Wood- for camp fires etc… Water Closet- a place to take a dump. Widow Makers- tree limbs over where your sleeping or dead trees that can smash you to death. Wild Life- game trails where animals you don’t want to meet up with at Oh dark thirty. (Stay away from those trails)!😊

You did a pretty good job for your first solo.
A couple options are for $20-30 you can get a twig stove or stainless folding fire pit. Then for around another $15-25 you can get a fire proof mat to put under it.
A shovel to put out a fire and look up building a Dakota fire pit as an option as well.
They make some light backpack cots with a lot profile that may fit in your tent.
Definitely an inflatable mat would help.
