jo chand ahl-e-junun tere nam leva hain
bane hain ahl-e-hawas muddai bhi, munsif bhi
kise wakil karen, kis se munsifi chahen
magar guzaranewalon k din guzarte hain
tere firaq main yun subh-o-sham karae hain
bujha jo rauzan-e-zindan to dil ye samajha hai
k teri mang sitaron se bhar gai hogi
chamak uthe hain salasil to hamane jana hai
k ab sahar tere rukh par bikhar gai hogi
garaz tasavvur-e-sham-o-sahar main jite hain
giraft-e-saya-e-diwar-o-dar main jite hain
yun hi hamesha ulajhti rahi hai zulm se khalq
na unki rasm nai hai, na apani rit nai
yun hi hamesha khilaye hain hamne ag main phul
na unki har nai hai na apani jit nai
isi sabab se falak ka gila nahin karte
tere firaq main ham dil bura nahin karte
gar aj tujhse juda hain to kal baham honge
ye rat bhar ki judai to koi bat nahin
gar aj auj pe hai tala-e-raqib to kya
ye char din ki khudai to koi bat nahin
jo tujhase ahd-e-wafa ustavar rakhte hain
ilaj-e-gardish-e-lail-o-nihar rakhte hain

Whenever there is tyranny and "zulm", people turn towards Faiz. I have heard "Hum Dekhenge" and "Nisar mien teri galliyon" so many times on the streets of Delhi. Hum Dekhenge is almost like an anthem for those fighting against injustice. We owe a huge debt to Faiz for writing these immortal lines. There are people who swear that Iqbal is the last word in poetry. There are people who swear by Tagore. I testify for Faiz Ahmad Faiz. He wrote for me. He wrote for you.
