  • In this video, Tom Sandri gives a Megger Bite 2P Battery Impedance Test Set overview and demonstration.
This is a Tom Sandri classic video from 2012. The material in this video may be dated and newer models available. And yes, we know the video is shaky and sucks, but the information is good! Maybe we'll have Tom reshoot this one soon :)

The attached “Battery Testing Guide” from Megger does a good job of addressing this question. The explanation is on page 15 and references Figure 1(page 6): protecequip.com/media/7183/meggerbatterytestingguide.pdf

Have you had any issues with using the MEGGER BVM modules? Recently had issues with the modules dropping communication to the test set and not collecting data sporadically throughout a discharge test.

Yes! Typically happens when discharge rates are 30 minutes and faster. What's happening is the current flow at these rapid discharges are causing large magnetic fields, which is interfering with the unshielded cables used on the BVMs. The only solution is use another product like the Alber. Look at the BCT-2000, I think this is the one I have used. alpinepowersystems.com/manufacturers/alber/. The update rate is much faster than the BVM as well. We don't carry this Alber unit but not hard to find. For fastest charges with high current, short duration, this is a very common problem with the Megger. I feel your pain, been there. - Tom

@@ProtecEquipmentResources Thanks Tom. ya we were thinking the same but also thought we were having PowerDB issues with the automated form we were using. Is there a effort to change the cables to shieled? or is Alber coming out with a updated version of the BCT-2000. I have used the BCT but it wasn't easy to come by. Does Protech plan to add BCTs in there fleet soon?
