Hi Mike, Just bought the PBS Deluxe based on your review; I also signed up for you basic right hand techniques and am looking forward to the journey! Thanks for the Great Review.
Hey Mike, your old student from the Pickin' Parlor here. This is the reso I ended up buying. Good bang for the buck. The Pickin' Parlor is closed but my Top-40 band plays right across the street at Oh Grady's all the time now. :-)
I have one ......the neck pulled loose after about 17 years and going to do my own repair on it. the neck is held on apparently by 2 dowels connecting the neck to the body. BUT it sounds great,,,when i can play it. cause i do NOT want to retire the dobro.
When I hear this played compared to higher end models I really don't hear that much difference in anything I'd deem as a huge sound quality issue. What makes you call it entry level?
It's hard to beat the playability and sound quality of these guitars until you get above 2K. I have yet to play anything else in this price range (1K) that compares. I wish they were around when I first started.
@@MikeWitcherDobro yep I’m 18 and just got into playing the dobro, I started out with a hand me down and now a week or so back got me a 2023 gold tone pbs and love it, gotten quite a few compliments on how it sounds and looks.
MR. Mike, Very nice! I wish to achieve to your playing level some day. Quick question about the PBS Deluxe from your perspective. I own a PBS Gold Tone and from the video the sound is quite different with the Maple vs, the Mahogany body such as the one I own. Can you respond? Do you think the recording, i.e., type of Mic and other such equipment. enhances and changes the sound appearance somewhat? I also use the (E series) EJ42's . I follow you and Troy's teaching methods quite closely in fact currently I am using your text , with the CD to learn and I try to glean from Peg-Nation samples that come through my email box . Thought you might be able to provide some feedback for if and when I'm ready to go to a different RESO Guitar. Thank-you if you can respond. MJ from RI
+Michael McDonald Hi MJ, Thanks for checking out my videos and lessons. I'm sure there is a difference between the Maple vs. Mahogany guitars, but I wouldn't think of the PBS Deluxe as a big up grade from what you are already playing. When your ready, I would consider moving up to a Beard (American built) instrument. Any of his guitars would be a big step up from the Gold Tone. I hope that helps, Mike
I now have a Gold Tone Paul Beard Signature Series guitar and it's a wonderful instrument!
They are great!
Sounds beautiful Mike.
I like the slow playing with the light touch, sounds cool.
Your playing is incredible!
Thank you Robert!

Hey Vince! Glad to hear you're still playing. I've been to Oh Grady's a few times. You still playing there?
You play nice. Im lookig to buy this model too, I was looking at the MAHOGANY But think
this Maple you are playing sounds better.

Entry level? Sounds great to me. I'm just getting into Dobro after of years of Pedal Steel.
You have to spend two to three times as much to beat them. Great guitars!
Nice dobro,great sound
Love the gospel sounding playing at the end..cheers
Has any one done a side by side with one of these and a Wechter Scheerhorn?
I've played them side by side but never made a video. They are very comparable.
HOW MUCH FOR THIS MODEL.
When I hear this played compared to higher end models I really don't hear that much difference in anything I'd deem as a huge sound quality issue. What makes you call it entry level?
It's about 1000 dollars and a 400 dollar dobro hound dog is just as good
@@tygoodwin7179ya not even close, gold tone Is way better
