Sly Stone (born Sylvester Stewart) was originally a record producer and disc jockey for San Francisco radio station KDIA but left that when he and his brother Freddie merged their 2 bands together to form Sly & The Family Stone. They also brought in their sister Rose Stone (not the female singer Rose Cornelius of the group Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose) and a few other artists, including legendary bassist, Larry Graham (later of the group Graham Central Station). They had lots of great hits, like 1. Dance to the Music (1968) 2. Everyday People (1968) 3. Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) (1969) - One of my personal favorites 4. Stand 5. Sing a Simple Song 6. You Can Make It If You Try 7. I want to Take You Higher 8. Everybody Is A Star 9. Hot Fun In The Summertime - Another personal favorite of mine 10. Family Affair
Great introduction to Sly and the Family Stone! The Bay areas finest collection of funky musicians. That bass is courtesy of the one and only, Mr. Larry Graham! Their sound was unique as well as their look. They broke the industry's idea of a band, comprised of black, white, male and female "family" members. Check out Cynthia (on the trumpet) in Dance to the Music. Each musician is honored w a solo on their individual instrument. While live is good, recommend Studio/ audio first. Also Hot Fun in the Summertime, Everybody Is a Star, Everyday People. ❤
Oh C'MON MAN (joking🤣), where's Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) ??? That song is also very funky and even mentions a few of their hits in it's lyrics ... ones that he should react to like: 1. Dance To The Music 2. Everyday People 3. Sing a Simple Song 4. You Can Make It If You Try I know YOU know this but, for the other readers, it was a funky azz song like this one, had great bass, horns, singing, it had everything.
THANK YOU! I have been wanting someone to react to this. I love this song much. It is pure funk. Thank you! Everyone misses this song. Larry Graham kills it on the bass, he was a master
Another serious essential piece of the Funk foundation that is Sly and the Family Stone, James Brown and George Clinton/ P-Funk / Bootsy. You could start at Sly's "Dance to the Music" LP and go on from there. Larry Graham's slappin and pluckin revolutionized bass playing, whether he invented it or not. Other major 70s funksters include the Meters, Ohio Players, early Kool and the Gang, Mandrill, War, Betty Davis, Tower of Power and Jimmy Castor Bunch, so many others. The Funk trench is profoundly deep.

I Want To Take You Higher is a good one, and Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself Again is another one.

That is great! A different time!
You’re in for a treat with these guys. Check out their Woodstock stuff.
One of the most influential groups from the late 60s to mid 70s.
It's all about dat bass. Great tune
Had to come back and listen again!
There's a song on this LP called Loose Booty that's heavy, heavy funk!
Sweet Sly. Dig deeper: Family Affair, Take you Higher, Dance to the Music, etc.
Sly and the Family Stone were bad ass, they were completely different from the Soul music of the 70’s
👍 Old school!!! 👍❤

Indeed indeed and a master of Gospel, Soul and Funk, Curtis was a giant. @dr.leslieorgelpfeifersyndr5143
Sly's real name is Sylvester. So many great song from this man and his fellow bandmates.
Wow, you jumped right into the deep end of the pool. Most people ease on in to the shallow water first. Congrats on taking the deep dive.
There's a riot Goin on
I think they were all related.
Only some, Sly, Freddie, Vanetta and Rose were Stewarts, Greg Errico, Larry Graham, Cynthia Robinson and Jerry Martini were not.
