That is legitimately what they set up for. When they said by end of Q1 2025 fiscal year, they’d just finished mentioning March of 2015 as the date when they revealed the Switch. However, that is NOT when they revealed the Switch-that is when they revealed the NX. How none of the big Nintendo RUclipsrs pointed this out is beyond me
@@Level_Eleven 0% chance for March 31st, but with no 2024 reveal then I can see them mention the codename for the next console in March, reveal in September/October 2025, and release in March 2026 right before the Mario Movie in April 2026. They did say they will take more about the SUCCESSOR to the Switch - meaning the console that will happen next - this fiscal year and never once said they would actually reveal the next console.
@@Monablade They do March to not only get the enthusiast sales out of the way, but to have back-to-back annual financial reports looking good. This is a very strategic move and the best move Nintendo can make, especially when they know they are just going to sell out in the holiday anyways. The only other month they can release in is February.
The thing i can't get over is how Nintendo only has 3 games planned for 2025: DKC returns, prime 4, and legends ZA. This year in 2024 they released a new game every single month. If they wanted to keep that release schedule, they only have 3 months of games set for 2025 at the maximum, even though Legends ZA seems to be much further out. So they need to release the switch 2 early into 2025 before they run out of games for the switch 1, or they need to reveal more games for the switch 1. But they skipped the September direct this year, so that should mean they don't have more switch 1 games coming early in 2025. So if they don't want a software drought before the switch 2's launch, they have to reveal it soon.
Exactly this. Whether it’s just new games or with a switch 2, they have to show something rather than having a big gap of no games. I don’t think we know anything beyond Mario and Luigi coming out in a couple weeks. It’s certainly been an odd year.
I definitely appreciate you considering all kinds of possibilities, and I do agree entirely- I think anything could happen. However, I do also think it’s very likely if Nintendo doesn’t reveal it before November 5th, they won’t reveal it this year since why wouldn’t you reveal it before your Investor Meeting and get extra hype and show investors the value in your company? But again, anything could happen, can’t say for sure any which way. The one area I disagree with you on is that Nintendo doesn’t care about the Switch hardware, which seems highly unlikely. They’re pushing a lot of Switch bundles and also projected like, 156 million units sold by the end of the fiscal year. It seems very likely they’re trying to beat the PS2’s sales record. Also, next to zero chance of a Next Gen Pokémon game for Switch 2 being revealed so soon. Like, Pokemon Company and Game Freak always linger a little longer on these consoles than most Nintendo companies/partners do, so I’m very much not thinking we’d see Pokémon for Switch 2 for at least until year 2. I don’t have any clue what Nintendo’s plan is, but I’m feeling like this is a 2025 reveal.
Nintendo isn’t rushing to announce the Switch 2 because they’re thinking strategically, and we need to approach it the same way-not like impatient, irrational fans. The Switch 1 is still performing incredibly well, with huge titles like Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, Pokémon Legends Z-A, and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD coming in 2025. This shows the console has plenty of life left. With a projected 13.5 million units to sell this fiscal year and a strong holiday lineup for 2024, it would be absurd to announce the Switch 2 now, especially with many casual gamers unaware a successor is even coming. Nintendo is still pushing the Switch as a fresh product with big releases like Zelda, Mario Party, and Mario & Luigi. Thinking like Nintendo, they’re more likely to launch the Switch 2 in September 2025, possibly alongside a 3D Mario for his 40th anniversary. Nintendo doesn’t need to rush into new hardware-Switch 1 still has a lot to offer.
I would not say an HD Remaster is a big release whatsoever, but for Switch 2025 exclusives we have Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, Metroid Prime 4, and the massive title of Pokemon Legends Z-A for brand new games which should all be first-half 2025. Nintendo recently been waiting until June to reveal games for the 2nd-half of the year. So already knowing 3 majour titles for 2025 tells me the Switch will have a really big year, it also screams that there is no plan for a new console in 2025 either since Nintendo would not want to overlap games in the same release month and botch sales, because they would just release a console with no games for it otherwise.
This happens every generation, you have to move on eventually. Those new games you mentioned will have either cross release or be backwards compatible, so that’s not an issue. General audience are expecting something because the hype has bled over and also the switch to switch 2 gap will be the longest gap of any console in history (beating the Xbox 360 to one). They can still support the switch a few years into the new gen. But even though Nintendo doesn’t rely on power, switch was dated and behind even in 2017. This will be almost double the gap between Wii U & Switch. Obviously Wii U was a failure while switch was massive but it’s overdue for a new system. People are hungry.
I kinda agree. I feel no rush to get a switch 2 because I'm quite content with the software offering at the mo. It there were massive droughts ala WiiU/Wii then I'd be more eager
I'm starting to give up on October, November, and a December reveal. I cannot fathom why Nintendo made that vague tweet 5 months ago. If they were sure they were going to reveal next year or even this year, they would've said it already.
All I will say is that I find it very weird now more than ever that they moved up the September Direct to the very end of August instead of doing the usual Nindie Direct in August and September Direct in September and not August. There was actually no reason for them to have both directs on the same day that they did outside of some weird 4D chess strategy marketing move by making us all think something big is happening in September by moving up the direct to an earlier date. Nintendo playing 4D chess with us all, and winning, while we all are out here playing 1D chess and losing.
I just don't think we can logic this out like people are trying to do because Nintendo hasn't been logical at all. Like combining two directs, but then having 0 announcements in September is exhibit A.
Nintendo almost never does anything in January, the most they do is sometimes release a game in January, which recent years they have released Pokemon Legends Arceus, Fire Emblem Engage, and Another Code Recollection. They also re-released Tokyo Mirage Sessions for the Switch in January too. In terms of announcements, we get a mini-direct like every 10 years or something within January. February is the most common for a Nintendo Direct and for other announcements that are not directs, Pokemon Direct always happens for Pokemon Day at the end of February.

If they haven't revealed anything by late October, they will probably wait until after the holiday season is over. They did promote a lot of new games for their current system, so it would make sense for them not to risk to interrupt their sales too early. I feel it's a unique situation where Nintendo doesn't need to promote better hardware, as the demand for their games remains high despite other systems advancing in performance. My bet is they will make a reveal at the beginning of next year, with improved resolution and performance, new third-party titles, but still focus on transitioning between the current system and the new one.
Nintendo can do anything they can even pull a Microsoft and show the trailer at the game awards because there be millions of eyes on that show which can steal the whole show. 😅😂
They said outright in their spring investor meeting that they do expect the next-gen announcement to affect current-gen sales. The fact that there are somehow still arguments to the contrary is pretty silly. Of course there is some small chance that they go ahead and do it anyway, but there is no room for speculation on what they think the effect would be. They've already answered that question. And here is my personal speculation: they've probably come to that opinion not as much because they expect the console itself to overshadow the current-gen software. Some of that would surely happen, but the more likely reason is that they'll want to have an impressive launch line-up, and the bevy of games that will accompany the announcement are pretty likely to outshine their current offerings.
