- Ayaka is one of the most powerful characters in Genshin, but I was planning to skip her. I already had a couple of cryo DPS characters who I was happy with, plus a limited amount of primogems and a looong list of other characters who I absolutely needed more.
But then the FOMO got the better of me…
So, was Ayaka worth it? Or did I come to regret giving in to the pressure?

I love Ayaka - especially with her paid skin. It's one of my absolute favourite skins they've released although I wish it had some of the fancy animations like Dilucs does. Poor Ayaka will forever be known as 240 days of Wet Socks 🤣

@@Biccoso the banner didn't end up actually lasting 240 days, only until the end of the lockdown in shanghai, but during it the banner duration said "240 days remaining" 😂
After losing 5050 on the endless ayaka banner (and saving my guarantee for Kazuha), I was super hyped to get her in her next rerun (and i think I happily won my 5050 that time?), and I'm so happy to have her. Also her team is nice for getting fungi dust as it doesn't have electro or pyro characters like so many of my other teams 😅hoping to one day save up for her paid skin, it's so pretty.

Her Cryo vision backstory was later on revealed that it was Ayato who she bested with a single strike that a Cryo vision appeared to her. Ayaka will always be my Main, all the characters I pulled for moving forward has always been gravitated towards building around the two Kamisato siblings, but mainly Ayaka.
Just won my 50/50 on her banner! I wished for her with Ayato + Thoma in my team while sipping boba tea at Ayato's desk at the Kamisato estate lol. I think it was a lucky location!

I skipped Ayaya on release but did grab a Mistsplitter for Keqing. Then I picked her up on the rerun & Keqing threw a strop over getting an R5 Lion's Roar, but she cheered up some when Alhaitham stole the Mistsplitter & Ayaya got the R5 Amenoma. Both girls have helped clear Abyss with Keqing making a good show in the latest iteration alongside Furina, Raiden & Baizhu while Ayaya does her thing with Kokomi, Kazuha & Layla (until I get Shenhe)

My favorite character since day 1. I've 36* the abyss with her everytime since her very first banner and I love her to bits.
She's definitely the type of character that feels more limited at low investment, but pays big dividends the more you give her.
(Side note, the Alt dash was buffed/tweaked 3 different times over the course of like 2 years, so that might be why your earlier Mona experience probably felt even worse)
Oh interesting, curious what the changes to the sprint were - the only one I remember was the time they adjusted it so that it wouldn't catch on edges as much as previously (still not as smooth as I'd hoped, but def an improvement). Saw someone mention that the exit animation used to launch a little higher, so if that's legit a thing then that could definitely be it!
@raptori yeah, they tweaked the catching on edges thing at least 2 times. And both the entering and pop up lag were reduced.
I think they also changed their turning radius while in sprint, but I'm less sure about that one. It's been a long time. 😅

Even though I didn't really fall in love with her until after getting her, she really is such a wholesome and sweet character 💜
This is exactly what makes her bad imo, you need to throw all your resources to even make take off the ground. And she uses the second worst element in the game. Meanwhile other limited carries can work with 4 star teams and weapons. Ayaka is a huge trap
since its ayaka story/review time here is my take: starting the game when raiden reran in 2.5 i lost my 50/50 and wasnt able to get raiden so i saved up everything for Ayaka. she was my first limited 5* star in genshin so im a bit biased but having a extremly strong and versatile main dps changed the entire game for me. i remember being able to press Q to make enemies disapear felt amazing as newbie. "waterwalking" is an ability that often gets not enough attention but it enhances exploration so much. since the day i got her she carried me in abyss even at c0 with amenoma and suboptimal supports. her teambuilding made use of rather uncontested units back then and to this date specialists like shenhe are only really found on cryo centered teams. nowadays ayaka got shifted out of the meta bc less freez viable cenarios and her meltplaystyle has some issues but the younger kamisato sibling is still very capable when it comes to clearing content of any kind that isnt cryo resistant/immune. tho i must say that fighting bosses without shenhe is less smooth. the new fontaine craftable is better for damage but after a few weeks of testing i swapped her back to amenoma bc her damage was high enough already and with the extra energy from amenoma rotations are smooth even if you missplay. ^
one thing i wanna mention regarding the video is the lack of mention of LYNETTE!!!! everyone has her and she works well for ayaka if you have nothing better or you just wanna play lynette. her taunt works surprisingly well from my testing and another benefit is her special infusionpriority. together with babara and keaya that are also free you got a very capable freez team that can be improved on no matter your account state. thanks to lynette ayaka has a very low barrier to unlock big dmg but still a high ceilling. as new player ayaka can be a cornerstone that your account can grow around and the progression from 5k to 25k burst ticks feels great if you like that kind of stuff. freez has some restrictions but once you understand ayaka playstyle i find her playstyle very enjoyable to this day. i hope you will have a great time with ayaka aswell if you decide to get her.

I started playing at the beginning then quit gaming altogether for some reason. Then I saw something about ayaka and she brought me back to gaming. I was able to c6 her during the extended banner. She's a complete powerhouse of destruction that can be used in any team at c4 because of her Def shred.
i don't have my 50/50 guarantee but i love water/ice power. I started recently and got neuvillette, and was going to use him to set up Ayaka's freezes. I hope when i do pull a 5 star i win!
for what it's worth Neuvilette won't function super well as a support as he has very poor hydro application off-field, so you'd want to pair Ayaka with someone like: Xingqiu, Yelan, Kokomi, Mona, Furina, or Ayato to continously freeze enemies!
I adore her personality!! But i do find a bit hard to adapt to her sprint, although it is something you just need to get used to 🤣, maybe on a future rerun I will get her ! Anemone Gucci forever!!! I also forgot would Kaeya, Kokomi and Kazuha be a viable team for her??
Definitely would be! Kaeya generates a good amount of particles with his skill, and his burst is def very useful in a freeze team with a melee driver. You'd end up having to switch back to him more often than you would some other cryo options, due to the short skill cooldown, but there's no real downside to that I think!

I got Ayaka on her introduction. I had to skip Kazuha on his introduction to be able to save enough primogems and even though Kazuha turned out to be awesome support (and yes it was known even before his banner ended) I never really regretted skipping him by then. I needed strong DPS and I got strong DPS, despite only being able to get her craftable weapon and not really good artifacts at first. I had tons of fun with her win the overworld and she carried me through the period when I struggled to build viable teams. Over time I got other characters and I gradually stopped using her but she's still dear to me. Last time she gave me significant help in Abyss was when Wenut was in there and she together with Ganyu were in the team I used to defeat it on time after many failed attempts. I also got her Fontaine skin and you expressed exactly my feelings about it.
By the way, the alternate sprint got two fixes over the time. Originally when it was only on Mona, it was really very awkward, the exiting animation was long and there was no way to escape it. They applied first fix because of Ayaka, I'm just not sure when. And only much later after even Yelan was released with the same problems they sort of fixed the problem with getting stuck on tiny obstacles. They could still do better job on that but now it's waaaaay better than it used to be.
I have also heard that the wet socks scene is some sort of Japanese tradition so it only feels awkward to us westerners. But I don't know any more details about it. If that's the case, it's a pity the game did not give us proper explanation. I really don't think Ayaka deserves to be memed about that.

Mostly I reckon people only tease her about it because she's so lovable and sweet 💜 That said that's actaully quite interesting, and definitely would have ben cooler if it had been explained in game 👀 I feel like despite the fluffy af dialogue in this game, a lot of actually important stuff is left unsaid, and a lot of character nuance left to be discovered by people willing to read because they're dedicated enough, and it'd be nice to see more of these traditions and personality quirks shown!
This video made me realise that they should change the character trials. It should be a choice: Do you want to try this character with f2p teammates (valuable for newer players with few characters) or do you want to try it with *your* characters, the ones you already possess (like we can do in some combat events, useful for getting a more realistic feeling of the character for your account)?
The hype around her initial release really turned me off. I'm like that ig. However I did the classic "sniping a 4 star" schtick on her rerun banner and got her but shockingly not the 4 star I was carefully aiming at. Long story short she changed my account. First 36 star abyss clear was thanks to her (because I have zero skills and was in need of a strong lady to carry me). Some players really hate her sprint but I kinda like it tbh. I even miss the old one with the added jump height on finish but I can definitely see how it doesn't work for some.

Just pulled ayaka after ending ayaka s story in inuzama quest plus i only had kaeya as my cryo its so nice to have ayaka ( she is my first 5 star:'))

Congrats! 😁💜 Here's the section where I talk about teams 09:10 - depends who you have already, but she's very very flexible! Even if yu have no one but the started characters you can use kaeya and barbara for example, though if you haeppen to have xingqiu he'd be even better!
I like Ayaka but I love the characters of her premium team more, especially Shenhe and Kazuha. I also got Wriothesley on his banner. Does Wrio work well with Shenhe and Kazu in a freeze team or should I pull for Ayaka instead?
Very much so. Discovered this while we were scripting this video!
I had previously only really used Wrio in coop, and therefore felt that he was fairly weak. He's got a fairly similar build to my Ayaka (very similar to Saurus's one shown in the video) but he did waaaay less damage than I was used to seeing from Ayaka.
Turns out that's entirely due to the team he was in. While were were scripting, I tried him out with Shenhe, Kazuha, and Kokomi, and he did pretty much the same damage numbers as Ayaka, even though my Ayaka is a *lot* better built!
I personally love Ayaka's playstyle so I'll always prefer using her in the team, but in your case you could definitely skip safely in the knowledge that you've already got a similar strength freeze team!
Yes he's fantastic with ayaka's team! With a similar build his damage is actually higher even in that team. I love both of them, so I decided to gear Wrio more towards melt, but it's defintiely a case of you don't need both, so pick whoever you like best!

Little late, but on her previous rerun(I was new)(talking for the one rerun happened earlier this year), I planned after getting Raiden, to get Ayaka and skipped Shenhe for Nilou, actually regreting not pulling for Shenhe, she is such a cool character, not to flex, but my Ayaka is 44CR to 280CD(Mistspliter) with 2K ATK and 145% ER, she is actually "queen" as a character, so now the question is, should I pull actually for Shenhe?
Well, Shenhe would make her already probably busted damage skyrocket - in other words, it's not *necessary*, but boy do I love playing those two together, the rotations are just so smooth 😍 And shenhe is VERY easy to build as you can simply got 2pc ATK+ATK sets, with ATK/ATK/ATK for maximum buff!
So if I want to maks Ayaka even better( uz right now, I'm paring her with Rosaria), I should go for Shenhe, a character that I quite like, so I guess will go for her

I tried my best with the classic freeze team once I got Kokomi and Shenhe, but boy, Kokomi is a huge hassle to play with.
The team with Mona and Diona is at least not as annoying to keep up a jellyfish and flounder with Kokomi's energy or the refresh timing.
I have had more success with hyper/melt with Kazuha, Xiangling and C6 Bennett and semi-freeze with Kazuha, Mona and Bennett also works quite well.
Though I do use 2 piece Blizzard 2 piece Shimenawa with some nice stats.
Recently I swapped in Mistsplitter for Amenoma, I really need the energy recharge when combating shielded seahorse bosses.
And while I have built my Ayaka to be more flex oriented, I have refound joy in freeze with Kazuha, Furina and Charlotte.
Just give Kokomi sac fragments and er sands. It gives perma jellyfish with close to no effort.
Interesting, sad that it doesn't work for you! Wonder if you've just had poor luck with ER substats or something - my Kokomi has something like 165% ER from her equipment, plus 15% from kazuha's Xiphos, so it's rarely an issue... Sac fragments and ER sands sounds intriguing though!
As an Ayaka Main I definitely recommend her. I got her to C6 today. She is my favorite character in Genshin.

My history with Ayaka has been a sad one... Back in 2.0 when she debuted, I was still an F2P player and was very hyped about her like most other people during that time... So I pulled on her banner scraped and clawed to 83 pity only to get Qiqi.
Then during her eternal rerun banner I again lost the 50-50, again to Qiqi... Which is when I made the stupid decision to drop 200$ to get her and then roll for her weapon only to lose there as well and get the Unforged.
I built her up, got Kokomi, Kazuha, Amenoma for her but no matter what I did, call it the buyer's remorse, but I was just not enjoying her no matter what 😢... By the time Shenhe's banner rolled around, I had already lost all interest in her and haven't played her in the overworld or even the abyss for more than a year.
She is still my most expensive mistake in this game to date, one I heavily regret 😞.
Oof that sucks, so sad when the game ruins a character for you like that... hope someday you can get past it, since in the grand scheme of things a couple hundred dollars isn't going to change the world (hopefully at least), and she can be so fantastic 🥺
That's why there is a trial for characters before you pull and unfortunately spend on this game. You can try unlimited times to get a feel of the character you will wish.
Omg I also got the unforged on her weapon banner 😭 I can totally understand what you mean; when I decided to get my Al Haitham his signature during a rerun I ended up going to pity 3 times on the weapon banner and in the end it just did NOT feel like it was worth it at all... Those pulls are my biggest wishing regret and definitely taught my my lsson not to dabble with the weapon banner unless I would well and truly not mind getting crap all.
So sorry for the shitty experience :( That said, what's done is done and hopefully you'll be able to enjoy her again some day, but don't put too much pressure on yourself to do so
@@skyreaper1994 Wish they'd make the trials more flexible though, a lot of characters have an awful build, or a trial team with characters they're not great with - Ayaka being a perfect example, with Barbara and Xiangling!
Imagine if they just used the same UI they've created for the fighting events, where you get to pick between the trial characters (so all the ones on the banner) PLUS a list of all your own characters!
I get the argument that it'd potentially result in less revenue for them, but in my experience the opposite would happen. Example: I was ambivalent about pulling for Kazuha until I got to try him *with my own characters* in an event; that event showed me that with my existing characters, he would be my favourite and I needed to get him!
Got her today, navia took 20 wishes but ayaka took 150 🌧 still got 158 wishes saved for yoimiya. I hope i will have enough wishes for cloud retainer

Ayaka was my 1st banner 5☆ I pulled for and won! Her story resonated with me, and it felt like she was sisterly besties with my Lumine traveller.

when i met her I thought of her being stunning yet strong fighter but the fanservice killed her as a character to me, like the person we use in game who says lines about swords feels so different from the one who is in events and i so hope newer event will show more of harsh and strong image of her, after all it is her will and strength that gave her the vision, not some lovely but forgettable moments with lumine
i got a 68 pity and i really really want sucrose and raiden . what do you think i should do ? should pull for sucrose in ayakas banner
i dont have any grouping/buffer so i really need a sucrose + i just started playing this game so dont have many 5 stars i . i dont have a guarantee 5 star , what would you recommend? im AR 50 with no anemo or vv artifacts
Do you have Fichl or Kuki (preferably C2)? If you do then Raiden perhaps is not needed except if you really love her character and want her no matter what. If that's the case then don't pull for Sucrose cause it's really probable you get a 5* in the next 10 pulls and pity will reset. If you do have Fischl or Kuki or both and you don't care about Raiden, Sucrose is good but again she's not guaranteed to come unfortunately. You might be lucky and get her fast or give 90 wishes and still not get her. So it's up to you.
PS. Kazuha's rerun might take some months like around spring-summer, but consider saving some wishes for him.
@@2aalu It's tough since having a crowd control character is a big game changer, but legitimately the correct option is to *never* pull for a 4 star. You cannot guarantee you'll get them, and you could literally spend hundreds of wishes and get zero of them.
In your situation I'd pull for Raiden, and save up for a potential future Kazuha banner - just gotta hope that he'll run sometime soonish!

Raptori beat me to it, but I agree, don't risk your pity for a 4 star no matter how good that 4 star is! Especially since you're so close to getting a 5 star, with the way the universe works you might end up getting ayaka, NOT getting sucrose, and not having enough time to save to guarantee raiden 😔 In other words only play the 4 star roulette if you ahve enough wishes saved to guarantee whoever you really want! I really really hope sucrose jumps at you randomly from the standard banner or something 💜🙏

keep in mind peeps the new BP sword wolf-fang is AMAZING on her.
that new sword is being slept on by like most of CCs and players.
Yeah main downside to it is that it's a crit rate main stat... the passive is fantastic for her for sure, but even with just its substat you're gonna end up over 100% crit pretty easily in a freeze team, so all the extra crit rate goes to waste. If you're lucky enough to have a 4p blizzard set which rolled zero crit rate and a lot of her other useful stats then it'd be amazing for sure though!
@@raptori wolf fang has 27%(+8% procs)+15% ice resonance+20%*2blizzard strayer is=90%.

it is perfectly fine. you can also ditch the second cryo and have more teamcomps to play with as not evryone has the perfect 5* supports or ice charsthat are useful.
@@gergokerekes4550 You also missed the base 5% crit rate, so even at R1 you'd be at 95% Crit Rate before you even equip an artifact.
It's definitely a viable option, but it does mean that unless you get really lucky to get artifacts which work really well for that build, you're over the max in CR. Or like you said, just avoid bringing a second cryo character - might result in some unique team comps I guess!
I didn't farm Blizz all that much, and my artifacts in that set skewed a little more towards crit rate than might be typical, so my Ayaka starts at 40% CR, so with the blizz + resonance bonuses she's at 95% most of the time. Definitely would be considerably weaker with a CR sword - just goes to show how much of building characters is down to the RNG of what you happen to get I guess.
Haran is her second BIS more because of the elemental damage bonus than the crit for what it's worth!
Are childe, charlotte/layla/chongyun, sucrose good for her team?
Yes! All 3 of those cryos work with her, sucrose is fantastic, and you'd ideally want the 4th member to be a hydro!
@@saurusness should I pick Barbara instead of childe in the team as childe is also a dps?
@@basitmahmood9663 With Childe you could possibly make them work as a dual DPS team (where ayaka goes off field after her burst, and childe take the field) but since he doens't have any off field hydro it wouldn't work super well as a freeze team, as the enemies wouldn't be frozen for long periods of time 🤔
Barbara on the other hand DOES have hydro app off-field, though you have to be close enough to hump the enemies to apply it :D

I have only known about your existence for 20 minutes and you are already the most wholesome and chill person I have heard in my entire life
There's this addictive & beautiful fluid rhythm to Ayaka's gameplay which made me instantly fall in love with her since it's so unique. Having started in 3.1 the hyperbloom era where the reactions are brain-dead and do all the work for you, such isnt the case for Ayaka freeze, you've to adapt and learn her rhythm. There is a learning curve which i like, cuz when it finally clicks and you pull off that perfect rotation and watch all of Teyvat die in her burst, it's truly a source of immense endless pleasure. Her "premium freeze team" rotation is arguably (imo) the most fluid in the entire game.
(Also, if you're going for the Mistsplitter, its arguably the most valuable & versatile sword for your account too since a lot of main DPS can use it)
100% agreed - that team is the one I've used the most, and nothing else flows quite like it for me. Probably partly just because I've used it so much over such a long time, but definitely at least some of it is just that there's something special about it!
Agreed!! The best part of that particular team is that when you nail the rotation it feels fluid and graceful, like a dance coreography!

I was in a similar boat as you Saurus - I was adamant on skipping Ayaka but then I tried her out during her thousand year banner and something about her playstyle just really charmed me. maybe it was the infusion, maybe the sprint, maybe the elegancy of her skill, but I fell in love with her. up to this day she is the only character I've gone to double pity for (140 wishes - thank god for the extended banner) and I've not regretted that since. the only cryo DPS I had up to that point was Kaeya iirc so she truly changed my account. I even went out and got Shenhe specifically for my Ayaka.

The craziest thing is that despite initially being all "yeha she's cute but I'll be fine", **after** I gopt her I became just as obsessed as the rest of the Ayaka nation 😂

I thought she was gonna be obsolete for this patch, but, this version, I choosed her with an Hyperbloom team to take care of the new Fatui that moves a LOT
And yeah, She very, very easily disposed them with Yelan, Kuki and Nahida

well not *all* of them, but yes, that's pretty much how it's gone for me with many of my faves, to the point where my Twitch community would roll they're eyes whenever Is aid I was going to skip X person 😂
That said, I think it's a testament to Hoyo's fantastic character design - not just aesthetic and personality, but playstyles as well! there's huge variety, and since combat is one of the things I enjoy most, it's no surprise that a fair few characters have a playustyle I find fun and exciting. In fact, there are only a handful of character whose playstyle I really don't enjoy (like Eula), and the rest I've successfully skipped due to other reasons. And for what it's worth, since I don't go for cons, I haven't actually whaled yet despite being a bit of a collector, so whiel the addiction is there, it hasn't had adverse effect on my life 😁

I do have a fully f2p friend who has gotten almost every singe 5 star in the past year and a bit since she started playing just purely by being the luckiest mf in the whole world. I think she lost her FIRST 50/50 on Neuvillette or Wrio banner.....

wishing best of luck for those who will pull fir her but I will skip her cause I find her gameplay far too primitive nowadays and already have c0 of her tho I know some of her cons make her a monster and still choose to pass. I just love wriothesley's gameplay and lore and aesthetics so much more that he fulfilled her role incredibly well and added a lot more enjoyment to my experience to the point that my own ayaka will sadly sit in the pocket forever until i finally become a whale and have insanely much resin to build her
if i ever pull ayato i will use the siblings in the same team with ayato as a burst dps for her but in any other case it seems unnecessary for me to use her :(
honestly my ayaka story is very tragic. i have tried to farm blizzard for her for a whole year but when i got wriothesley and put him in very random hunter pieces from the first day of building him and he gave me better numbers and smoother gameplay. im so sorry for the cryo queen, really, but my luck said what it said

When you pull for Ayaka you need to commit to get Kazuha Shenhe Kokomi and mistsplitter as well. Without this set she is just underwhelming. Besides - cryo is in a very bad spot now, think twice guys

@@0Creates NA Ayaka is not the way, besides off-field application of XQ and Yelan is only single target. Kazuha is needed Kokomi can be replaced with Furina yes but it is still pulling for 5 star yet again. The Charlotte comp works yeah but the damage is just low without shenhe imo
No its not that low. Cos in premium ayaka comp, theres no furina. Furina replaces shenhe and it furina deals alot of damage as well on top of buffing ayaka by 75% cryo bonus at c0. Kazuha in this comp is not as needed as in shenhe comp cos theres so much cryo bonus from furina already. And yes NA ayaka is not optimal but the best sequence for ayaka is N2C, besides, xingqiu rain sword is not like fischl's a4 where every action is coordinated by Oz, there's a delay on the swords
