- She's a favourite for a lot of people, and in a lot of ways I do see the appeal, but her personality never quite clicked with me, and when trying her out I initially had serious concerns about her playstyle.
The gods of gacha have a dark sense of humour, so of course she was one of the first five stars that I ever got, and my first DPS to boot. I'd like to say she won me over... but it's complicated, and not necessarily for the reasons you might think…

This type of genshin videos is like all in one: there are some bits of guides on how to use the character, some story/lore talks, fun skits and the personal opinion + history of the player with certain characters. And a veryy relaxing narrative too, simply amazing!

After I learned of qiqi and hu tao’s backstory I felt so bad for Qiqi as in early game i constantly had them on the same team 😅 I’ve loved playing my hu tao (and she carried me through much of the game), but her personality took a bit of time to grow on me. I didn’t dislike her, but I didn’t love her either. At that point I’d never met her in game. While her aggressive sales pitch sometimes gets on my nerves (and i still haven’t forgiven her for qiqi), I do really enjoy her in events etc. She’s currently t he only one of my 5 stars i’d like to get c1 for, but she keeps rerunning at inconvenient times when i can’t quite justify it. Still haven’t learned animation cancelling. Doubt i ever will 😂 (doesn’t help that i play on mobile these days 😅)
They all love to run at inconvenient times honestly 😭 At least if you're like me and would rather get a new 5 star than a constellation when you have to make a decision!
At the end of the day though, playing her "optimally" is only really required if you're doing tough stuff, otherwise managing to animation cancel just makes combat a little less chaotic and quicker :D
I play on mobile too and i cancell animation with the running button instead of jumping. It works nice for me
I got Hu Tao on her second rerun because I was DESPERATE to replace my Diluc with literally anyone else. She’s served me well but her playstyle was never for me and I’m not invested enough in her to get all the bells and whistles that would make my life easier (C1 or Staff of Homa). Another year has passed and I am now spoiled for DPS choices especially now that I have Lyney who I adore. I’m still grateful I pulled for her and will probably still break her out for Abyss but I’m glad that I have other options now
Yeah having options is the best! I've now got Yoimiya, Hu Tao, Xiangling (more sub dps build though ut still), Klee, AND Lyney all built (so when it comes to pyro DPSs I'm covered LOL) - all of them have different things they excel at/against, and it means I get to play varied teams and use up all my supports! I do have Diluc too since he loves to ruin my 50/50s, he's just not quite built yet, but I'll eventually get to him too~
This video is so well edited and written! Hu Tao was the whole reason I joined the game, and I felt really bad about her because of her sad backstory, and I just got her a week ago!!
I'll be skipping Hu Tao again, since I already have both Yanfei and Yoimiya who are good enough to cover all my pyro needs... maybe someday in future if she re-runs with some 4 stars that I actually need!
I'm wondering if I'm hopping in this boat again too. Having both, I just can't convince myself if I end up not liking her trial, to still pull (knowing she'll return). Time will tell.
YEah truth be told I have SO MANY pyro DPSs that I don't think I'll ever have a *need* for another one 💀 I'm sure another one will come along and steal my heart and primos again tho.......

Mine is c0 but she's also benched. For me, idk i don't have any complicated feelings about her, its just now I have Yoimiya. I basically replaced Hu Tao w/ her. Nothing about her really keeps my attention, none of its bad but i've just kinda forgotten about her now that i have wayyy too many characters.
Btw i also got her trying to get Thoma xD she was also one of my 1st 5 stars. I got Keqing first & her second.
SAME! I got the guarantee HT somewhat closeish to soft pity, then kept wishing for Thoma, and got a Keqing and Hu Tao double whammy (and finally a singlular Thoma) in the end. Keqing became my first DPS I actually used 😁
Glad you have that controller-on-PC perspective, because I'm in the same boat. I have Xingqiu, Yelan, and Layla, but the gameplay (and the camera rotation) would probably frustrate me.
your genshin videos are always astounding and so incredibly well done!!! i love this one sm in particular mostly because hu tao was one of the first limited banner characters i pulled and ive still never really used her!! so this makes me feel a bit better about my life decisions 😎also helping you film the chasing scenes was so much fun and i may or may not have watched that sequence like 17 times 🥰💜
I used her a lot, then benched her, then yelan was released and double hydro and funerational came to life then I started using her again and she's almost always in my abyss runs since then. At C2+Homa with double hydro she still feels top tier even in the current meta. I also love her design, her attacks, her voice, everything!
That double hydro team just feels so freeing! For the purpose of this video I played around with other teams that I had tried in the past and had seen people try, and none of them feel as good for me... Also Hu Tao got to shine in this current abyss and honestly it felt really great to use her properly!
@@saurusness OMG yes!! double hydro is the best thing ever. The damage is insane and it's so nice to use in the abyss. I used to play her previous top meta team which included elegy amber + kazuha, and the rotation was so tight and the survivability was so bad that it was super stressful to use it in the abyss, that's why I benched her in the first place. But after Yelan, everything is fantastic for my beloved Hu Tao. I have my hopes that Furina, since she's the hydro archon, could be a god tier off field hydro applicator even better than double hydro! >:D Well, dreaming is free haha

I definitely fell in love with her after lantern rite 😂 managed to luck out getting both her and waterboi aka Vaporize Machine in one 10 pull. I really like you going over Qiqi’s backstory in this video too, I had forgotten so much of it!

Ooooh, great layout of Hu! I've still not gotten her, and I struggle with the idea of "animation cancelling" because I feel like I don't understand the timing of it. I will for sure be trial trial trial again ... so many new characters coming, which is also making it hard to see if Hu OG is right for me. Thank you for reminding me about Qiqi's backstory too! Having just completed Baziou's story, it was perfect timing.
So for animation cancelling, Hu Tao's charged attacks are a pretty useful example:
Her charged attack animation takes roughly one second from start to finish, but the actual damage happens after only 1/3rd of a second. We can cancel the animation by pressing a different button like dash or jump, so the "ideal" timing would be to cancel it the moment the attack hits the enemy.
If a jump animation takes like 1/6th of a second, then we can do charge -> jump -> charge to hit an enemy twice in one second instead of the usual once!

dont worry too much about the animation cancelling. if you are bad at it she will still do a ton of damage and if you are good at it she just does even more damage. her charged attack animation is so long that you have a long window to cancel it. you either win or you win even more. its really satisfying once you get the hang of it and see yourself cancelling the animation earlier and earlier. you will also soon notice what happens if you dont cancel at all and she flies across the map. you probably automatically try to cancel her flying away anyway :)

@@spartacurt hmm, in my opinion. mobile players are kinda doomed anyway. I personally dont have problems cancelling hu taos animations on mobile but i also dont even try to do abyss on mobile because everything feels worse to play on there in general. I only use mobile for dailies and events which works fine. the controls on mobile are annoying to me in general, even when its just simple character switching. im just not used to mobile controls and they frustrate me so i dont know what hu taos gameplay would feel like if i was an experienced mobile player
Omg i had the direct opposite problem with HuTao's rerun! I really wanted her and she just would not come home, and i ended up with C6 Thoma, C3 Sayu, and even a C1 Mona before i even got her! That was so painful for me, and i tried to build her but it just wasnt good enough, so much so that i benched her after all that 💀 and i even resented my Thoma, until i got Lyney and realised he worked really well with him and became grateful for his C6 hahaha oh how the turn tables!
Oh no it's terrible when that happens! :( that was me with ninguang trying to get heizou (and kazuha) on heizou's debut banner: I got 17 (YES SEVENTEEN) ninguangs and she was already c6 before the banner 💀
For what it's worth, I think ignoring her animation cancels for example is fine, it can just get a little annoying fi you're zooming around the field too much, but the biggest difference for me was made by having a team that felt super comfy! So if you eventually get your hands on and build the right folks, maybe you too will eventually de-bench her! 😁

I have C1 Hu Toa, but now that she's back, I am going to invest everything I can to get as many more constellation for Hu Tao, hopefully I get C6, but I have a buget and going to save up as much primogems as I can.

Each to their own preferences. But props to you for actually using a character you used to dislike. I actually hated Childe(like I really hated him to the very core of my being) early on but his playstyle is just too fun not to play.
Even if I hate the character, if he/she is fun to play, I'll still play and roll for them. I won't let my perception of that fun character to hold me back from experiencing such fun playstyle.
I don't hate him as much anymore.
Honestly same, I also *used to* HATE Childe (now I'm more ambivalent, just like with HT), but I really enjoy his playstyle and would 100% have gone for him if he wasn't always right next to some banners I'm just a tad more interested in 😩 Last banner I lost a 50/50 and didn't carry on, and I threw a few pulls at this current banner but Otter Judge and Emo Duke have caught my attention tightly enough that I won't pursue him further... Perhaps when he next comes back whenever that might be....

I actually prefer Hu Tao on controller because I like how their are more buttons/movement involved. I feel like I'm actually playing her.
Which is why I don't playing characters like Ayato, which is mainly holding down a single button for his skill/NA.
Yeah in general I love playing with a controller precisely because I like the natural feel of moving around with a controller vs how m&kb feels. I'd also say the zooming around away from the battle due to the occasional missed cancel has become less bothersome , it only really sometimes annoys me in the abyss since I *try* to pay attention to my positioning 😂

Personal head canon is that whenever I mess up, it's actually Hu Tao using a ghost to break the 4th wall and possess my controller to troll me. Not my fault. XD

I play on controller and this is my exact thought… she is so much fun to play and dash cancelling is engaging. For me shes the funnest character to play on controller thb.. i think its a very personal thing tho honestly since i also enjoy klee and all her animation cancellings

Zhongli's shield shreds defense, so that's why he usually takes the spot over Layla.
If you use him on the other team then it makes sense to use Layla though :D
That's true! I just personally find his slow casting time irksome, which is why I prefer quicker casters usually ^^
Hu Tao is my Abyss workhorse. She feels clunky for open world and I much prefer Ganyu or Yoimiya but when there's strong boss in Abyss, Hu Tao is one of options I'm definitely going to try. Also, she was the one who helped me to finally reach that "kill Masanori really fast" achievement after months of struggle.
I'm definitely going to pull on this upcoming weapons banner and maybe I'll finally bring Staff of Homa from there. Or it will be Neuvillette's book; I don't really mind, either will come to their rightful owner.
Having C0 Hu Tao without Staff of Homa I must say her build options are much more limited than with it. So if it will be the Staff, I'm definitely looking forward finally changing my Hu Tao's build for better.
YEah Hu Tao might just be my favourite person to bring against say the abyss maguu kenkis and the like!
10:10 You can now enable gyroscope which is exclusively for Playstation controllers since 4.0. I used Dualshock 4 (wired) on PC and it drastically improved the aiming for elemental skills for certain characters like Jean, Nahida, Gorou, Albedo and more, as for charged shot it has more aiming precision and I'm much more confident to shoot. Once I used that feature there is no way to go back how we sufferred before. Gyroscope will only take effect when aiming with charged shot, some elemental skills, Kamera/Charlotte's photoshoot mode are by far the common way to use with gyroscope aim.
My Hu tao crimson: CR:60, CD220, HP:28.5k, EM: 280+, ER:110- with r1 dragon's bane. With double hydro she has 32k+ hp

ah, hu tao.. i had it all planned out: use my guaranteed on venti, save the rest for furina... smashed that plan to pieces. not only did i desperately want a fischl for both my miko and lisa, but as someone who joined right before sumeru.. i am so sick of dendro comps 😭 for so long my only noteworthy teams have been aggravate and hyperbloom. at last, i have vaporize at my disposal! i feel just like a 1.0 player hahah
still going for both venti and furina - venti for an anemo cc (not a big fan of sucrose or kazuha), & furina for my hu tao (i _like_ yelan - but not as much as i love all the characters i want to pull)! already lost a 50/50 to dehya, so on a guarantee again.. 10 pity.. 12 primos.. 1 fate & about 12 days of my birthday welkin left.. pray for me 😅

As someone who started Genshin relatively recently, mainly because of Raiden, I'm on the edge about pulling Hu Tao or not. My only two 5 stars are Eula, who still does good job carrying me almost solo, and a recent addition - Zhongli.
Now, I only have around 16000 primos.
I definitely want Raiden (cause she is the reason I started Genshin), but also I desperately need someone who can absolutely destroy bosses and be a dps on the second abyss team.
If I go for Hu Tao, then it's C1 minimum. Staff of Homa look like an attractive offer too. However if I go all in will I be able to collect enough primos for Railgun who presumably will rerun after 20th December? Love Tao's personality and design, but not sure if I will enjoy canceling. Meanwhile at least C0 Raiden is must have for me, but I kinda in need of second dps that is not physical.
Play around with her lots in the character trial and try out both dash cancels and jump cancels, while neither are particularly hard and just needs muscle memory, you'd get a good feel on how enjoyable they would be for you in the long run.
As a player since 1.0 I'd STRONGLY suggest to reserve your primojems for the characters you truly like and not just pulling for a strong dps, since abyss content does require really good artifacts to clear comfortably which takes a huge time investment, plus over time you'd gradually have a bigger roaster and will end up with a lot of good dps characters benched. Let's say I save for Raiden. How many gems I will need approximately to get her C2 from not having her at all? I know it is heavily depends on luck and pity, but I wander if there's a chance to still save gems for C2 or it's a pipe dream and I'd be lucky to just get C0.
yesss if unsure, do the character trial as many times as you need to to feel sure is what I always do! I did Lyney's character trial about 20 good times and finally decided I like him enough to pull him!

As for how many primos needed to c2 Raiden:
Absolute worst case scenario: lost 50/50 every time, 5 stars at hard pity = 6x90 wishes = 540 wishes = over 80k primos
Unlucky scenario: lost 50/50 every time, but at soft pity = 6 x 75 wishes = 450 wishes = just over 70k primos
A middling luck: some wins, some losses, on average each con takes anywhere from 75 to 150 wishes = 225-450 wishes = 36k-72k primos
The ugly truth is there's no way of predicting how many wishes it'll take, but the first example is how many will *guarantee* c2, but it could in theory take anywhere from 3 to 540 wishes 😅
IF your heart is truly set on getting raiden with her constellations, then I recommend skipping everything before her and hoping for the best on her banner, however I'm personally camp new 5 stars > constellations, as having flexibility in teams is always more beneficial for an account than just a single hyper powerful character :) Ultimately up t you though! 💜

Accumulating 24k gems from almost zero since Eula's weapon wishing was already a pain (given that some days I only do comissions). Which reminds me that I have no good spear for a potential Hu Tao and if she will not drain all my gems, Homa attempts will definitely do. I swear, 5 star weapon pulls feel like a scam in comparison to character wishing.
As suggested, I will experiment with trials and see what's up.
C2 Raiden definitely a pipe dream. Guess I settle with a C0 and The Catch.
@@One-EyedDragon Yeah weapon banner is a bit of a stinker, especially for f2p because it can eat up your primos really quickly without giving you much anything in return D: Definitely only ever wish on it as f2p or low spender if: both weapons are ones you'd use + several of the 4 stars would be useful to you as well.

I've never been the biggest Hu Tao fan. I'm just sort of meh about her & I think you've laid out a lot of reasons why I feel that way here.

hahahha understandable, it took me a long time and finally some wins to forgive diluc (he's c3 purely from 50/50 losses) and we're still not quite on talking terms

Hu Tao annoys me. Not anything to do with the character herself, but the timing on her banners. She was the first “must have” character in my mind when I started the game. After I found the character archive and saw her design and idles, I was determined to add her to the team. But unknown to me, I joined the game just after she got a rerun and it would be a loooooong time before she came back. By the time I got my chance, I already had Yanfei doing incredible amounts of damage for a 4 star, and I had grown to like her style and design at least as much as Hu Tao’s by that point. Plus, Yelan was on the banner too, and I really needed a good hydro character that I didn’t dislike (I have a c4 Xinqiu that I refuse to use because I absolutely hate his design). So I skipped her in favor of Yelan. Didn’t even regret it.
Now she’s back, and… I have both Yanfei still in my party, and Yoimiya currently being built up. And I’m just not interested in Hu Tao anymore. She can’t match Yanfei’s unlimited pyro application that pairs perfectly with my MVP Fischl, and Yoimiya is more interesting to me as a character, so all my pyro bases are covered. Especially now that we’ve met Furina, who instantly became my new “must have” the moment she appeared in game.
I’d still like to have Hu Tao, but for me, she’s just not worth the gems. I’ll probably never have her.
yeah Yanfei really is fantastic, and Yoi is my personal fave, and while I've definitely hoarded more characters than I "need" for any given category, it does mean you have one less reason to pull when it's just the playstyle and character that you're after. With so many cool characters around the corner right now... I have my eyes set on Neuvillette, Wriothlessley AND Furina 😅
That said, hopefully one day she'll come at a time when you feel like you can spare the primos (if you still then want her then)! It's quite nice to have a variety of playstyles even when there is no *need* ^^
I kinda hate when people talk about Hu Tao as this omega godly character that you should undoubtedly have. I have her at C0 and find her playstyle quite uncomfortable. I actually got her earlier this year when she had a rerun after a long time, because gacha temptations got under my skin (I never really originally wanted her). Pretty much regretted that decision like 10 seconds after pulling her (lmao), which got me mad for a while, but eventually i just stopped thinking about it. I also do bring her out sometimes for variety when I get tired of my usual teams, but in the overworld where i play 90% of the time, Hu Tao is usually just an... inconvenient character to me? Shes just difficult to play for me. Her C1 should really have been a part of her base kit, but that would have obviously cost Mihoyo a lot of money, haha. They totally knew what they were doing with this con.
Edit: I do like her design and quirkiness tho. Shes definetly an iconic Genshin character.

@@chaosinfernoid9008 Because her playstyle is not comfortable to me. Its like i constantly have to think about animation cancelling her CAs, and I see that as a gamekiller. Obviously its my fault that i got the character, but in my defence I thought I would get used to her playstyle, which I never really did afterall. If you like Hu Tao, its fine, im not trying to say shes trash or anything - just not the type of a character for me. I would have a similar issue with Klee (clunky playstyle, requires animation cancelling).

If your second problem is camera placement / player - enemy positioning while charge attacking with hu tao, since you already have her constellation, just cancel the charge attack with a dash instead of a jump. Use the left stick to move her into a comfortable position to charge attack again.
Hu Tao's playstyle doesn't mesh with me - but my dislike of her because of her interactions with Qiqi is a huge reason why I wouldn't even invest in the trouble of learning and practicing the things I would need to to play her properly. Hu Tao will live on the list of characters I won't pull for, but I might pull for her pole... Staff of Homa would be amazing on my Geo Grampa Zhongli 😎
I was never a Qiqi hater, she never ruined a 50/50 for me, the voice over bits were funny but Qiqi grew on me the more I read about her as I scanned lore and the lore creators. Some of the theories about her past and familial connections made me love her more. Hu Tao always trying to bury Qiqi just made me angry all the time 😭LET QIQI LIIIIIIIVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE!
But, the animation cancels are what does it for me with Hu Tao's playstyle. They're so soooo hard to cancel on a controller. It makes her zero fun for me because I wouldn't be able to use her effectively because I can't do the animation cancels. Mind you, this is from me who benched Tortellini because I gave his bow to Yelan because I didn't wish for Aqua to save for Shenhe 🤷♀ Guess now that I have Aqua I should give him back his bow and finish building him.... maybe after Neuvillette 🤣

Yeah truthfully... IF I hadn't gotten my Hu Tao somewhat unintentionally, I think she'd also be on the list of characters I would have skipped forever.. I don't hate her, and I get that she felt bad about her actions etc, but I also don't 'click' with her the way I do with so many other characters. Since I now have a build and a team for her that feel satisfying, she's a really nice option to have, but I doubt I'd be feeling *too* lost if I didn't have her!
Please don't listen to the so called Theorycrafters you don't need to Dash Cancel at all.
C1 if you really want to main hu tao, homa if you want a strong weapon for your account (she can use dragon's bane anyways).
im questioning to why you dont run shimenawas on her? seeing you have yelan, xingqiu and raiden. you have to have been farming emblem for a longgg time. dont those shimenawas pieces just ramp up at that point? also, i feel like hu tao is ever more easier to play on controller then on mouse and keyboard. but maybe thats just because i had a playstation my entire life and only had a pc for half a year 😅
Shocker I know but I haven't yet gotten a 4 piece good enough 😅 I periodically level all my hoarded Shime pieces though as i get fuel and no one's currents artefacts need levelling, so hopefully I'll eventually get the pieces together!
Oh I definitely agree playing on controller is far easier! It's just that animation cancelling for any characters is easier on m&kb, even if the rest of it is imo way harder hahah

Im a relatively new player (started playing 3 months ago, at ar53 atm) and In all honesty im aware that shes strong but i am not pulling for her simply because she seems boring to play, thought itd be cool to get her at first since my first 5 star was diluc and i love him but his damage sucks no matter how much i build him (still at c0 sadly), so i thought since people say shes strong af shed be cool but after playing her quest i started having doubts about that, and now that she's on trial i tried her a couple of times but i just dont find her playstyle cool (basically the opposite of my opinion on diluc)
It'll take a while to accumulate good enough artefacts (and weapons), but Diluc can be strong too even at c0 as long as you have a good team for him!
My own Diluc is still waiting to be properly built, but I've played around with him a little in the overworld. Xingqiu or yelan would be some of his best team mates (As is the case with almost all pyro DPS haha), bennet is fab if you have him, having a swirler on team is always beneficial (sucrose or kazuha). I also tried him out with kaeya instead of a hydro member and that it worked great!
I pulled Hu Tao on her latest rerun, because I thought playing since launch and not having her yet was weird. I already had Yoimiya as a pyro dps, and have to say I regret pulling her. Just goes to show that just cause alot of people like her doesnt mean you will.
Yeah it's very much a perosnal preference! It took me a long time to enjoy Hu Tao, and while I do now, I still *prefer* Yoi by a fair bit!
I really like this and all your other videos because it covers a general overview of the character and I think you do a great job of talking about the aspects peoole would care about before pulling

Hu tao is my favorite character. Even with c0 I found her super fun to play (but I also just enjoy animation canceling in almsot every game I play honestly)
I also honestly kind of don't care too much about a lot of lore or backstory in this game. But even still, the qiqi bits did bother me once I learned about them
The way I see it though, if they ever introduce another zombie type character, I doubt they would make hu tao try to bury them or even be all that hostile towards them if at all.
That would be pretty lame from a writing and character perspective so it would make more sense both lore wise and for the sake of entertainment to have had hu tao change forever after her interactions with qiqi
(Though honestly, it would have been way more satisfying to have this arc be in her character quest so we can actually see the conflict and development on screen. I don't hate her story quest but I think it could have been more interesting with this approach)

I actually do find her ideas on death very interesting and unique as well. Afterall, I can't imagine most people would actually want to be immortal when they really think about it, and while death isn't a positive thing, I also don't think it has to be scary either. It's not something to be proud of, and it's not something to despise in my eyes. Just as I've grown to learn life isn't inherently good on it's own, I don't think death is incoherently bad on it's own

I don't have staff of homa, and for a long time didn't have c1 and only got yelan in 4.0
Ever since 1.3 though, she has been my favorite and most fun character and I probably wouldn't even be playing the game still if it wasn't for her

I 100% agree!! I would have loved to see Hu Tao's perspective on the whole Qiqi story, and for that to have permanent (positive) effect on their relationship. Also agree that while death itself is a neutral, natural thing - I guess we tend to just so strongly associate it with the often tragic events leading to it, or the pain of loss following it for those still among the living :(
That said agreed, while Hu Tao and I don't necessarily 'click' on the same level other characters do (I'm not mad at her anymore hehe, I just don't feel super strongly either way), she's unique and I see the appeal, not to mention character flaws are always good and show depth of personality!

All I would say is that hu Tao May work well with characters/mechanics in Fontaine, given her HP decreasing mechanic/healing from burst and it seems like Furina may work well with hu tao if you care about that. TLDR don’t pull if you don’t like/want her but she may be even better in the meta if you’re struggling with abyss although her mechanics curling can get somewhat high.

Hutao banner was the first banner I lost my 50/50 on, but managed to still get her on the final day. She helped me full star abyss for the first time and was considered the strongest unit in my account for a while. It took some time for me to fully understand how to play her properly and sometimes it felt like she can be a little too strong and is able annihilate anything that I slowly lose interest on her and move towards using diluc and yoimiya instead. But as someone who refuses to build bennett, hutao was still my best choice among these 3 when I need a pyro hypercarry.... until I got myself c6 yoimiya and learnt how to do dragon strike on diluc. Since I got yelan recently I think I might take hutao double hydro out for a spin just to test the water again (haha get it?).
I actually like hu tao's personality and design. I will never be able to play with her since her low hp gives me to much anxiety.

a strong shield and someone like Xingqiu to offer a bit of healing really does help! It's like I said: I had the same anxiety for a looong time even though
she rarely goes lower than your average DPS at close to max hp :D
Skill issue
Like every Shielder says hello, you have plenty of options. If you wanna be really really save take Beidou and Fischl or Zhinqui with Zhonghli and you will literally never die. Lol.
I can very much relate to not being comfortable with her playstyle. I always feel uncomfortable deliberately having low health... even more so when you're a Melee character needing to get close to the enemy. 😅

Qiqi was my first five star and I was very disappointed to say the least.... but I gave her the respect she deserves and built her out totally and still use her on occasion.
I’m not gonna lie I just got her because she looked cool!!!!! I dont really mind the whole jump cancelling thing if it’s big numbers it’s fine for me! Even if it’s not the best! She’s currently benched because I got Yoimiya (my fave character) but I use her when I wanna go Unga Bunga mode
Yeah there's definitely content Hu Tao excels at where I prefer using her; the current abyss for example has been great for her!
i thought i would like Hutao back in 1.3, so i pulled her and benched her in 1.4
reasons:
1. my crimson witch luck was terrible
2. personally don't like to micro manage stamina
3. my luck again, I tried to pull homa every single time it has a rate up, and i got the other weapon instead
As someone who has Yoimia and Hu tao both c0, yoimia is so much smoother and a bit more fun to play. Hu tao really needs C1 to be really fun In think, and with how important her C1 is it's frankly unfair that it's not just included in her kit. The easiest kind of cancel for me is dash, and dashing is important in general for dodging, so with how much she eats up stamina she's just so clunky. But despite my gripes I do enjoy her. Her design is fun, damage us good, and i like her personality. I just don't use her as much as other characters. The most ironic part about this is that I got Yoimia first.
Yeah while I eventually learned to enjoy Hu Tao (and I DO have the privilege of having her c1) I still enjoy Yoimiya more, both in terms of playstyle and personality - she just feels so light and bright and fluid!
I'm just the kind of guy who likes seeing my teams all with green health bars. So a poor fit for Hu Tao given she does her best damage when on a health bar that would make my eye twitch so badly.
I got hu tao in version 3.4 tho it was hard for me to play her charge attack style but I eventually got used to it and for my team I use hu tao, yelan, rosaria and Layla
I don’t like Hutao either, I don’t hate her but for some reason her character isn’t appealing to me neither her play style, so much so that I stubbornly keep building my Diluc as my only option for pyro DPS, which is not that bad if you have Bennett and Xiangling as supports, and Xingqiu or Kuki in the final slot and you’ll be doing a lot of damage in a FTP friendly team, if you wanna go exclusively monopyro put Thoma there, for example in the last abyss he has been doing crazy numbers even more than Mona who I built for burst damage (sure it’s Bennett, the double pyro, the floor 11 pyro buff and the chambers damage buffs but hey I like how big numbers look and it’s him doing them)
I got Hu Tao c1, r2 and used her for maybe a month or two before benching her. I just dont like her charge attack playstyle. To this day she is one of my biggest regret pulls.

I pulled hu tao when she first came out only used for a week and never used again.
This hits exactly my reasons I always skip Hu Tao. Though I wasn't really bothered by her treatment of Qiqi, but instead her personality just did not mesh well with me. Having to do a constant animation cancelling correctly just to do optimal DPS puts me off. To those who use Hu Tao to do dailies, how are you still not get tired of that yet?? I've always been on KB/M, but now recently learning to move over to Controller. To hear that Hu Tao is giving a controller player more trouble is yet another nail in the Hu Tao's 50%-off coffin.
I've always struggled to do the animation canceling during Test Runs or as trial unit in events. I just could not reliably hit the correct attack or dash timings.
It's also why I have zero regret getting Yoimiya. Used her in Floor 12 too. Personality aside, overworld is a breeze. None of that constant animation canceling tedium of Hu Tao. It's even better if the controller has built-in turbo. I of course have my main Ayaka and her mates if I want to spice up the combat a bit.

I think my initial feelings were just further strengthened because Qiqi receives so much hate from people in general, which makes me feel bad for this fictional character and want to be her one true cheerleader hahahah
But yeah controlling her (and anyone) in general feels easier with controller for me- though that might just be my console childhood - but animation cancels for any character are a nightmare with controller and it's always a little off putting if they're "required" D:

@@chaosinfernoid9008 I see your point for c0 and that jump cancel does not speed up CA. But for smaller mobs it messes up positioning. Let’s just say her test run domain puts her in non ideal fights. No big enemies to get the feel of non cancelling CA, no C1 to even fully test and practice dash cancels, and there’s cryo slime mist attack that screws up timing, which technically is a good thing for practice but bad for first impressions.

Yanfei is amazing! My main account yanfei is still only half built because I have every single pyro DPS competing for my attention and equipment, but she's one of my main DPSs on my f2p alt account and slays 😎

personally i find it interesting how some find Hu Tao uncomfortable to play. not to say that they’re wrong, in fact i can understand how animation cancels can feel awkward.
but imo compared with other teams i’ve played in genshin (both overworld and abyss) she’s honestly the second most comfortable character playstyle wise (behind ayaka freeze). when i first played other DPSes (notably Yae) as well as running Sucrose hyperbloom (Kuki - DMC - XQ - Sucrose) i realized how insanely easy it is to be interrupted and be one shotted by enemies. while shields help, they aren’t enough to deal with all enemy attacks since i don’t have zhongli
Have you tried increasing the sensitivity of your controller? Should make Nahida a bit easier to use…
Sadly can't do that - we tuned the sensitivity so that we can do bow aimed shots properly, optimising it for Nahida would make Ganyu/Lyney/etc unusable for us 😭 Wish we could have different settings per character or something...
Yeah sadly if I increase the sensitivity further it makes aiming charged shots with bow characters a nightmare! 😅

Yeah kayea works great with her but I initially kind of hated him and only built him in the last year after I warmed up to his character/design a little more 😂

Wait whaaaaaat?!?!?!! Before I got near the end of the video I was just gonna randomly comment "dk if this helps anyone but her cancels feel so good on PS controller cuz you literally just flick the analog the other way, it's so easy." And I've been saying this on almost every Hu Tao related vid I've ever come across because the general consensus has always been that learning to animation cancel with her is hard and feels awkward. But the majority of that is from PC players who play with keyboard and mouse (the rest being mobile players because typically everything is harder for them). So barely anyone considers console players or just ppl who use controllers for genshin. But then you say it feels cumbersome on controller like huuuhhhhhh????? 😨 I'll never understand how anyone can like playing games with keyboard and mouse let alone someone who actually doesn't like it generally but ends up saying it's somehow easier for Hu Tao CA animation cancelling of all things 😭 that's so crazy to me.
Huh interesting, I don't have Hu Tao on my account, but I've tried her out a few times on Saurus's and flicking the analog stick didn't cancel the animation for me half the time... wonder if there's something specific you're doing which makes it happen more consistently?

@@EchoNoir- Ahh makes sense then! Dash cancelling was consistent yeah, but it still meant Hu Tao was zooming all over the place, which felt really janky to me compared to the DPS characters I'm used to (e.g. Raiden, Ayaka, etc)!

I find the controller makes it really easy to dash cancel and then at the same time (like I said) just flick the analog in another direction I want her to go in after already doing the initial CA hit on an enemy so I can then hit another one close by in a different position with the same CA, if that makes sense. But yeah naturally, she does feel very different from those two especially.

With enough practice she might work for me too, but I've already got a ridiculously strong Yanfei and Yoimiya, so never felt the need for another pyro DPS 😎
It's so weird watching people run rotations or use bursts in over world I never do any of that lol. Hu tao is awesome, but I don't play her normal I run hu tao, nahida, yelan, and kokomi/Jean in burgeon lol.
For me it depends on the character - e.g. I use Nahida's burst in the overworld since mine has so much ER that it's guaranteed to be back up, but I generally don't do full rotations in the overworld. Usually overworld teams for me are just characters who use their skill (e.g. current favourite is Nahida, Yae, Kokomi, Sucrose)!

@@MrJayslayerjay Yeah it kinda sucks - I wish they'd let us up the overworld difficulty level a bit. My Ayaka is only c0 r1, but she's also too powerful for the overworld really - usually shenhe skill -> kazuha skill -> kokomi skill -> ayaka charge is enough to kill most things... 😅
@@raptori yeah it would be cool to up the level of the world for sure. I took like my 5 main characters and spent some money on them because I wanted to be able to use them in any team. With Ayaka's c4 she's a badass support for defense shred. If people saw some of the teams I use they wouldn't think they make sense lol. Like my Yoimiya hyperburgeon team people keep telling me that I'm losing damage and screwing up reactions. I'm just like my nahida's c3 she does damage we're good lol.

How was zhongli and hu taos combo not satisfying?? He protects and shes his boss. Idk whats unsatisfactory about that since they are connected lore and gameplay wise.

I love zhongli as a character and his shield is immaculate, but I've always disliked how slow/cumbersome casting it felt, and that's why I almost always prefer to use Layla unless I'm playing a geo focused team where zhongli makes far more sense!
there's nothing wrong with the two of them paired together at all, it's just a personal preference ^^

I don't think you'd use Hu Tao in mono pyro though right? And there's no benefit to running Hu Tao with three hydro characters or something, so you'd always have at least three elements!
in the teams I play her in she gets the buff! (pyro, hydro, cryo team)
The downside is you lose quite a bit of cr so, while giving Ballad worked brilliantly, the lower cr made me too uncomfortable, so I'd need to find just the right artefact piece to make up for the loss 😩

As someone who also started in 2.1 and also lost my first 50/50 to Qiqi (in Tao's banner in my case), I feel this. In my case, though, my Qiqi is my only character still at lv 1 and I refuse to touch her even for the free standard wishes (that and she's spooked me so many times so she's C3 now). Tao not liking her made me like her less funnily enough, so the exact opposite of you. I didn't get c1 until her last rerun in 3.4, though.
