- Neuvillette is a fantastic character, but he’s not without his downsides.
I was unsure about him to begin with, but through the story he won me over. And when he finally became playable, he was an instant favourite.
But now, six months later, I find myself using him sparingly.
He’s still fantastic. But are there reasons any Genshin player should not pull for the Lord of Otters?

Problem with neuvillette: bro is too powerful 😭💀💀
He's a godsend for ppl like me who HATE combat and want to get it over with as swiftly as possible (certified teapot main and mint picker here), but I get how he takes away the fun for ppl who genuinely enjoy being challenged. It's always cool to see how many different ways there are to play this game
Agree, I love that the game caters so many different player types! 💜 And even as a combat enjoyer sometimes you just want the easy way out and it's honestly nice having that delete everything character when you're not feeling up for a fight :D
Difficult combat haters unite! I can't wait to get him. 😭 I'm on guaranteed but don't have primos. I'm at like pity 40, I think. So I hope that with the upcoming events (and maybe buying a 10 pull or two from the store with the star glitter), I manage to get him. 🤞 Wish I could get his C1 and weapon as well, but clearly that'll have to be next time. 😆

100% the same - I love Neuvi but he's too strong for anything outside of the abyss to be any fun... D:
it's such a silly dilemma really and should be a complete non-issue yet it bothers me immensely that there's such a huge gap 😅 One half of me wants to give my characters the best possible build and teams to get the most out of them, but when you do that with certain characters there's no fights left to fight, and the other half of me that enjoys a good struggle in a battle is left like 🧍
@@saurusness Yepppp exactly! Hard to see a good way out of it from Hoyo's perspective as well - if they add more difficult content and give out rewards for it then it encourages powercreep, but if they don't then people like Neuvi have this problem... D:
Even in the abyss he melts things with no effort. I have c0r1 and it feels like a cheat code. Wanderer and Al haithem are way more fun imo.

For someone who just recently started Genshin, a month playing; I pulled for him as my main DPS to clear most of what I need to, at least be up to date, and with unlocking most of the contents. I can see what you mean that he might not be fun in the long run, but I'm enjoying him now as I'm still just new and just getting the hang of things in-game. Also, with few characters to rotate/team up with, he basically can push me through all the content. Its also fun to try all the reactions that I can with him as my other characters are all over lol Hopefully the novelty won't soon fade.
He really especially great for new accounts wince his teams are so flexible, and he's easy to build as well (on top of being powerful)!
I like Neuvi in the abyss and events. That being said, in the overworld, I let Furina's pets do the dirty work, since his 320% crit dmg is a bit overkill.
PS: I went for his C1 for formalities for Neuvi+Furina combo
On his rerun I got his C3 and R1. he was C2 before and r4 sac jade. he is monstrously OP. you're right..floor 12 is like squashing hillychurls in overworld. But that's fine for me. I can be more creative in the second half and bring some less powerful characters that I like and enjoy and still clear. so that's something to consider.

c3 powerlevel is equal parts disgusting and awe inspiring 😂 it's very true though, whatever side has neuvi (even c0 like mine) usually takes up so little time you get to be extra creative on he other side!

Oh wow, that's a really cool perspective! I've been struggling with the question of whether to get his C0 but this point might be a tie-breaker.
@@FacialFischl I spend just on BP and velkin. I never top up. Usually don't care much about BP but I did for sac jade.
The classic problem with DPSes is that you only need two of them, or one if you don't do abyss. New ones either end up replacing old ones, or they take turns depending on enemy resistances or for gameplay variety. I still might get him just because I've somehow accumulated a DPS for every element except hydro, but I don't know how much I'll use him.
On the lore side, it's still funny to me how everyone assumed Neuvillette was the real archon and/or the one running the show and keeping all the secrets... only to find out that not only was Furina more on top of things all along, ultimately she wasn't the archon either, and now nobody is. Even after all this time, Genshin's plot still never goes quite where we expect.
Furina... more on top of things? Not really, yez we know she suffered 500 years etc, but face it, if we have to consider the main character and the best character from fontaine, it is neuvillette, not only by his constant implication, his demeanor, his emotions, which furina lacked in 4 out of 5 acts, and his power, alongside everything he reveal about the overall lore on the game trough the quest. Yes, lot of furina mains swear by her name, but it is simply because they are pissed off she didnt get the same amount of spotlight than neuvi both in lore and gameplay, so they keep their mind with "furina is a better character than neuvi in meta" which isnt even true in the first place.

I think technically Furina WAS the archon. Furina and Focalors are the same person. Focalors was the divine side and Furina was human. They’ve said this in the AQ but people are selectively reading so they completely ignored that fact.

When his debut banner released I was ready to pull or him simply based on the story arc & design, but then I entered the Trial & all the fireworks disolved into a damp squib. So while I will get him eventually he's relegated to the 4th last character I will pull for ahead of Venti, Lyney & Ganyu but behind Chiori & Shenhe. Who would have thought Ayato's boring combat mechanic could be beaten so completely.
I regret pulling for Neuvi, I don't need him really but influenced by the majority of his popularity. 😢

The best thing about Neuvi, and why I pulled his C1 this rerun, is that he SAVES TIME. 💙 In Abyss, he breezes through his half so quickly, which gives me the flexibility to run a weaker team that I enjoy playing on the other half without struggling to 36 star. 😊
In domains, I get clear times of 20-25 seconds, which really adds up over time.
He’s also great for a friendship farming team, carrying 3 unleveled characters through dailies 😅

Mine is currently half built and i find that he’s quite fun though if i want to build him fully for the abyss i feel like he will become too powerful for overworld
definitely too powerful for overworld, but truth be told that's trtue of almost any fully built character 💀 Waiting for the optional world level increase beyond lvl 8 🙏
Yeah, I also find myself using him less and less, although in Abyss he's a constant. But I think it's good - at least for long time players - to turn away from the "I main XYZ" concept and just play different characters, switching them whenever you feel like it. I have too many characters I like and switching parties even a few times a day is much more fun for me than repeating the same rotation over and over again. And having Neuvillette sitting in the backstage, ready to aid his help when needed, just adds to the sense of security.
I knew I need him as soon as speculations appeared about him being a dragon. By the time I pulled for him I had no idea how strong he will be. And I never regretted pulling for him, even though now he's my single most expensive character in terms of wishes spent on obtaining him, his weapon, and in current banner also his C1, regardless how little I choose to play him. He is not anywhere close to be benched by any means.
so true, knowing that even if all your other teams fail you have him ready to clean stuff up actually makes any potential struggle even more fun! Plus since at this point i have almost erveryone, and almost everyone built at that, they're all "benched" to a degree since I also enjoy swapping otu teams multiple times a day even 😅
I never pull for new characters. I wait for the re-run after the hype has died down and more is known from people using them. So, I just got Neuvilltte C0 and C1. He's great in the Abyss! I really don't absolutely need him in the overworld but I'm glad I have him.
I believe that mHoYo expected the player to complete his SQ at 4.1 before going to AQ at 4.2, but this is not necessarily the case later developments

Yeah I think that makes sense - it feels like it would have pretty prfectly fit in between.. I need to try and stay on top of SQ a little better 😅
was not believing he is so good,but non stop comunity praises make me spent 50 wishes for him {that much i was rdy to spend for him and was with little hope to take him},my luck activates for a first time in my pulling history so strong that i got him in first 10,have decent mare set put him with crit catalyst and omg on talents 5ish 70 lvl he is monster..everyone deserve to be bored of power sometimes ^^...
I love him in the abyss, outside he's too OP without another level upgrade to world opponents at least. Hey HoYo that's another suggestion, for those of us who want to can we raise our world levels again? I adored the wishing - we need to do that again, exercise for wishes! 🤪Also a grand time when you're forced to exercise to feed the wishing addiction *perishes from lack of being able to use saurusnessNodders and saurusnessDisguise but you know I wanted them there*

I've been a Neuvillette main ever since he came out and I got lucky on his banner and got his c1 in the same 10 pull, and I honestly can say I agree with everything.
I'm someone who does enjoy easy combat most of the times, cause I'm usually out in the overworld with a purpose, whether it's farming or exploration, or just doing a quest, so I generally prefer to use him so I can get the combat done and over with so I can keep doing my thing. In the abyss, my strategy is to have him in one half, usually the second, so I can experience the challenge with my first team and have him in the second half to pick up the slack if he needs to and clear it within the time limit.
Since I enjoy the lore and the characters more than I enjoy the combat, such an op character as him fits my playstyle swimmingly (pun not intended). Of course, not everyone has the same playstyle and in the end, like you said, it all comes down to personal preference. He's good to have, especially if they're going to keep adding harder bosses and content, but he's not a must.
I do really like how easy he is to build. For a new player, maybe reaching Fontaine would be a challenge, but after that it's really easy. I'm trying to get him on my alt account and I haven't unlocked the Fontaine statues yet (I barely finished unlocking Liyue), but as long as I can get him to lvl 40 with the materials we got from his trial I'll be completely fine until I manage to reach it.
I can't remember when the free waypoint will show up, the one at the edge of the desert and Fontaine. Is it available as soon as you start? or after Mondstat quests? I can't recall when I used that but I'm sure that it was way before I finished Inazuma Archon quest.
@@FreyrRagnaOrigin On my alt it was there after I progressed through the Mond quest, and on my main (made just before 4.0) i think it was similar, but it's been months already so I'm not entirely sure about that
As someone who's been in love with Neuvillette's design since his reveal, I couldn't help but c6 him on his first run. At first the feeling was incredible, I was clearing everything left and right. But then I ran into the exact same issue. There's no challenge left in the game right now unless the boss is specifically immune to hydro like Hydro Tulpa. Nothing can wall this guy outside of straight up immunity (it was so even when I had him at c1). So I'm feeling the same when it comes to "Can I be arsed? Nah? Then the answer is Neuvillette." I don't ever regret c6'ing him, but I do hope we'll get content someday that's challenging even to him.
The abyss has become so trivial that I try to clear it with 4 star meme teams now instead of the common overpowered teams. 😞
I got him a few days ago at 30 pity (not guaranteed) while trying to get Xingqui and Yanfei constellations! I’m ofc very happy about it because it was basically a free 5 star, but I’m not sure if I will play him often actually. His playstyle just seems a bit boring since you’re just standing in one place holding his charged attack while everything dies around you xD I’m still going to give him a chance tho, maybe I will enjoy him despite that :) And it’s always useful to have a strong character to clear abyss fast, because I really don’t enjoy that part of the game… the most important thing for me is that I like the character and also enjoy their playstyle, their strength doesn’t matter too much :D I’m an overworld player anyway, idc much about abyss outside of the rewards :3
I see characters like him, or IL & Acheron from HSR as the way to help some players. Not everyone is a seasoned gamer, some are just casuals or even new to gaming at large. These kind of OP characters are a huge help for them.
For veteran, we can simply tone down the OP characters gears.
Very true, I think he's particualy great for newer accounts because of how goshdarn easy he is to build AND how flexible his teams are.
I was actually just thinking the other day that maybe I should give Neuvi's book to someone who needs it more, since he really is fantastic with just prototype 😂
I love him!! Although I can't pull for Judge Judy Otter Lord Neuvillette right now, I will continue to farm and save for him! I really love his personality and style!

Now that i got him, im realizing how op he is. It has me worried for power creep. I’ve never been able to solo the abyss floors SO easily
to me neuvilette is kinda an abyss cheat code. i like to focus on many characters instead of hyperfpcusing on one, but want a good two tes for abyss. neuvilette being super op makes it worth to actually high invest in him, since i know he will be worth it (since its only really to allow me to deal with abyss 12)
also he is kinda unusable in the overworld bc everythig dies too quickly
i did pull him bc of his exploration passive, fun charged animation and bc of his... faction placement
I love to use him with Venti for ley lines. 🌪 💦 Overpowering yes, but very satisfying 🤩

Love your videos, and this one is even more topical and timely than usual. You can't outright recommend him; I can't even outright decide whether I want to have him or to carry my little stash of primos to Natlan. I've been concerned precisely that he's too strong, but am tempted by easy abyss clears.
I shall continue pondering for the remained of the banner...
Oh, I forgot to ask: as a fellow controller player, do you have any notes (like you had for Nahida, where your gameplay changes to get around the fact that you can't pan as quickly a keeb+mouse players)?
@@yptrumpetyou don't need to do dragonstrike to take advantage of his power. Being a bit slower than kb+m doesn't affect at all. He's very OP on mobile on screen control, rest assure you won't have problem with controller.
@@yptrumpet Yess actually; many people don't know that you can also trigger charged attacks with L2 (meaning you don't have to hold down the ⭕ button as you would usually do on regular DPS folks), and this leaves you free to both aim and use the camera contrls with your joysticks! 👀
Also either truning up sensitivty or just trying to line enemies up as you would with Nahida definitely make a huge difference! But I agree, he has fairly decent AOE and his hits are so powerful tha you rarely need to move fast to hit every enemy! :D
If you want to beat anything easily, pull for Neuvillette. If you want to play for fun, pull for Kazuha. Thats kind of what I've picked up from everyone. If you want both tho.. Wait for Furina and that's what I do 🗿

just got kazuha and then neuvillette just now and only did 13 pulls in total ! holy shit ! im stoked only legendary ive ever got was skyward harp and atlas and i have no one to use those on well i hope the atlas is good for this dude

Skyward Atlas is not good for Neuvi unfortunately - it gives you a very high Attack stat, and Neuvillette does not care about attack at all... you'd be better off crafting a Prototype Amber for him, since it's one of his best weapons! Skyward Atlas is better for someone like Yanfei, Klee, etc - anyone who scales off attack!
In the overworld i run him with alot of ER so that he doesn't overkill but is more consistent in maintaining the uptime
The only reason I pulled for Neuvilette is because of the parallels to Goku's Kamehameha from the Dragon Ball series. Other than that, I feel the same way about him as I do about my Raiden and my Hu Tao, they are too strong for me to enjoy long term. I don't use Raiden or Hu Tao anymore (both are C0) and after the Kamehameha novelty wears off, I will bench Neuvilette until something pushes me to use him every once in a while.
My favorite part of neuvillette was when he said "It's Biden Blastin' time" and Biden Blasted all of over the place. It was awesome, but now it's joever. o7
i love fuirna and neuvillette's character stories and kit but if i wanna have fun or not take .2 seconds to kill anything i remove them for my team
Man I pulled him and kazuha and I thought I had some decent lvl 80 builds for them ready to go, but I still can’t get a single star on floor 12. I’ve only been playing 3 months, but I really thought having 2 lvl 80-90 teams would allow me to clear.
The main character level is only a tiny part of character strength, what really makes a difference is artifacts, which sadly do take absolutely forever to build up...
I've seen people 36* the abyss with things like a level 1 main DPS Yanfei with cracked artifacts, 5* weapon, and good supports; I'd be shocked to see anyone get even close to clearing the abyss with level 90 characters without artifacts for example!
Well the next Region will be Pyro meta, I can see not being able to use Furina and Neuvillete, because all enemies in meta will be hydro and cryo to boost pyro dmg
For me the fun comes from him decimating everyone. I prefer an elegant and powerful playstyle not some nitty gritty hack and slash
I got him at this rerun at pity 28 (it was guaranteed, as I lost my previous 50/50 with Xianyun). And I got his weapon at pity 59 (0 fate points, it was just a casual 10x pull each time a new weapon banner comes out). So super lucky.
Just wondering does kazuha's freedom sworn effect increase Neuvellete Charge attack ?
The charged attack damage buff should yeah, but not the atk bonus of course. Saurus has freedom sworn but I'm not sure who she's equipped it on currently - Kazu with Xiphos ftw!

I disagree. We need MORE characters like him. Characters that are both fun and strong. What’s the point of spending your hard earned primos on someone who hits like a wet noodle…
different strokes for different folks but personally (as a combat enjoyer) I like battles to have a bit of challenge 😊 It's good to have extra strong characters like him for anyone who's not as into the combat mechanics though!
I still see many people putting furina in “Archon” list like “wich archon do you like the most”.
BUT FURINA NEVER WAS AN ARCHON. She even only had power over hydro after Nuevi gave her a vision.
Neuv isn’t an archon but he’s obviously the replacement most powerful character in Fontaine lore wise and maybe also gameplay wise.
How are people still saying furina is the archon when he is the one with the qualities that make an archon in genshin( glowing hair, fake constellation, similarity to MC’s kit, etc).
Wrong Video ma guy. There was no talk about Furina being an Archon or Not in this video. It was all about Neuvilette's kit. Don't see how this is in anyway relevant.
That's mostly because Furina herself is still being marketed as the Archon by Hoyo. Even in official art, she's with the other Archons. Not everyone knows Furina's situation and they can't go and spoil the main plot point of the Fontaine Archon quest. Furina is still the face of Fontaine's Archon Authority even if she's a human being.
She was the physical form of the archon. If people aren’t allowed to still refer to her as an archon then Raiden should get the same treatment, and I stand by that.

Far from a taboo honestly! Saurus often asks for harder content - for example at the end of this video she said she wanted more world levels (even if they don't give more rewards), and often talks about wanting more alternatives to the abyss, e.g. that labyrinth warriors event. Harder content would be great, just gotta find some way to make it so that it's not inaccessible to more casual players... hoping that all the stuff like auto-equip and training guide is intended to raise the build standards of the average player so that more difficult content becomes more commercially viable!
