Do we need to worry about powercreep in Genshin?

  • Powercreep can feel like a looming risk in any long-running game, but in a Gacha like Genshin it’s even more of a concern. Some would even argue it’s inevitable.
    Many people invest a lot of time and money into their accounts, and the prospect of seeing their hard-earned characters fall by the wayside can be worrying. While many are content to play the game on their own terms, and are happy to disregard the most difficult content, anyone who tries to keep up with the Abyss has to keep this possibility in mind.
    While Hoyo has managed to avoid much powercreep so far, in many games it ramps up over time, and the release of Neuvillette made me start to ask the question:
    Are we going to start seeing powercreep in Genshin?

    The problem with newer 4 stars is that their full potential is locked behind constellations, sara, faruzan, gorou, mika, kaveh, yunjin etc. these characters at c0 tend to feel very underwhelming and uncomfortable to play at c0, but with their constellations they’re actually incredible units who are as op as bennet in specific circumstances

      I think Neuvilette is a new type of unit they're going to start pushing from now onwards
      most players pull for the Archons and Archons are usually the best at what they do or pretty close to it but they're not intended to be a "Main DPS" even Raiden who is an excellent one at C0 and one of the if not the best Hypercarrys in the game at C2 has more support based constellations going forward
      so if Archons are the units that they're going to make the "ultimate supports" per say
      then maybe Dragon Sovereigns will be the ultimate Main DPS characters
      I just hope that even if they go this route they don't make any character a true must or forced pull for all accounts since Freedom to play as who you like is more important than anything else imo

    I think the most obvious way they can avoid power creep is to make different endgame modes and this also applies to combat events. It's all time trials so certain attributes dominate the meta, it's the reason healers and defensive characters get so much hate, because after a certain point, the only content hard enough to need optimizing, are timed DPS checks. If we had survival modes, boss rushes or other modes that had no time limit but had other win conditions or required different team comps, it would leave much more design space so there would be far less of a push to make characters that do the same thing but better in the few areas that matter most in Spiral Abyss.

      I agree, the point here is not the level of power but the hole it gets in the party, what they say that Neuvillette can be in any team means he can ignore the rest of the team and do his thing alone because he is so powerful but he can't drive a comp like Ayato does, Yunjin don't work with Neuvillete but work great with Ayato, Neuvillete can't prock Beidou's Ult because he focus more in his powerfull charged atk, Ayato can. Ayato's Ultimate is great for freeze teams and have the quadratic scale like Ganyu's so having great synergy, Neuvillette in such teams is a waste of time since he will be on field most of the time doing his dmg so the rest of the team doesn't matter... again, to me, they just have a complete different holes

    • @Warmness
      @Warmness 7 месяцев назад +35

      @@cesarignjas Ayato is not driving yunjin. Driving means activating off field abilities in a supportive manner. Yunjin just buffs but it is meaningless because Neuvilette still does more damage. Neuvilette does drive Beidou and probably is the best driver for Beidou as Stormbreaker activates with charged attack. I do not understand what you mean by Neuvilette being a *waste of time* in freeze teams 1. What do you mean waste of time? You can swap him out anytime you want. Rosaria, Kazuha, Shenhe and Neuvilette make a fantastic freeze team. His field time could be 6 seconds or 15. Also eating the field time of other characters is not a bad thing when you compensate it with enough damage 2. Neuvilette has one of the best aoe capabilities in the game far surpassing Ayato. Quadratic scaling is great but Ayatos Burst does not have the multipliers to take advantage of it. Before Neuvilette, Childe was our low base damage and niche but powerful enabler who had a lot of hydro while Ayato was the flexible but weaker enabler with less hydro. The problem is although Neuvilette can not replace Childe completely because he application is weak he can and does replace Ayato as he is Ayato but x2 the damage. Your comment has a lot of false info on it and I respectfully disagree.

      Yeah, with those 4 stars that I like, I build them enough to use them in the overworld so I can enjoy their playstyle, which works fine enough for me since I have a plethora of well built characters to choose from for tougher content, but newer players haven't yet built up the library of characters and equipment. It really does feel like some characters get released just for the sake of adding something new to the banners for people to pull...

    I don't think neuvillette is a one-off. he's more of a trend of one region having a single dps unit of special note. He is what xiao was supposed to be to zhongli, what Alhaitham is to nahida, what raiden shogun herself is, what diluc once was. Each region gets to have a strong support (usually an archon now) and a strong DPS by default, and they're usually important in the story.

    I thought this video was very accurate
    In general I think mihoyo is powercreeping more in terms of characters smoothness and ease of use than actual dps ceiling. I do theorycrafting videos so I constantly monitor these numbers, and for example while neuvillette isn't head and shoulders above others in that sense, he does feel better than many characters just because of how easy it is for him to reach that dps ceiling in real play, and also how guaranteed his aoe feels.
    I think we had something like this with a character such as wanderer too, which in my opinion kinda powercrept yoimiya in terms of ease of use: both ranged left click spammers, but wanderer has better range, aoe and mobility ( this makes him feel better without a shielder than yoimiya ).
    Hoyoverse has its own metrics to determine character strenght and I'm sure this ease of use, which contributes to how good a character is for the average/casual player, is a big part of their kit designs

    • @saurusness
      @saurusness  7 месяцев назад +9

      Yes exactly! The easiest way I think to notice such things is when comparing f2p versions of each character; since Neuvi can utilise Marechaussee to the max and ascends with crit damage that makes building crit incredibly easy. His BiS f2p weapon is fantastic for him, which is somewhat rare I'd say for DPS characters. I think all of that is something people overlook when comparing character "strength". Likewise, while Xingqiu has the potential for great damage, it's simply so much easier to build the stats and achieve similar or better results with Yelan!

    Genshin is powercreeping pretty much since the beginning, I'd say about four times in a year there's a new thing released that shifts damage ceiling up. Out of more notable ones, Zhongli, Hu Tao, Yelan, Dendro as a whole, they all moved the cap quite a lot. But the thing is that actual difficulty bar did not move by far that much. And with it I account even for the hardest Abyss cycles we had so far that occurred during 3.x. Many were complaining but in the end many have beaten it using old characters, just used in creative arrangements. Poeple who have fun beating Abyss using 4-star characters with 4-star weapons have yet to have their streak interrupted. And overworld is as easy as ever, I have just seen a video of someone exploring Fontaine using level 20 characters. Which is in fact great. There's a lot of Genshin except the Abyss and for significant part of players Abyss does not even exist. Such people have zero need to get stronger characters to "succeed", they get them for all other reasons.
    Note Hoyo never showcases character strength in their demos. They showcase their design, their personality, their animations and effects. They're selling eye candy and experience, not DPS. The powercreep is there just for those for who it matters, those who measure beauty in damage per second.
    Note on your closing remarks: Abyss will always be a DPS check. The kind of check may change over time as it did in the past, i.e. elemental application check, burst damage check, sustained damage check and so on but it will always be a DPS check. That's the purpose of Abyss. For other challenges, there's exploration and limited time events.

      yess, like I said, the one that *actually* determines whether or not characters remain viable is ambient powercreep - it don't matter is new characters are OP, as long as content doesn't get to the point where you can *only* clearly it with them (and it hasn't yet).
      Also I actually like the abyss, I wasn't calling for the abyss itself to be changed (I perhaps should've rephrased that) - what I would like to see more of is something a little more akin to simulated universe in HSR; a combination of fights, perhaps puzzles, maybe skill checks? Something that would perhaps make you use specific types of characters, or reward you for having certain abilities (such as good aim or good dodging).... How that could be accommodated for people of all platforms, I'm not sure, since I believe these sorts of moves on mobile devices can be really difficult :/ We've had many events in the past that have featured stuff that I think could be such a great permanent addition to the game.

    Something to note: Yelan actually does about the same damage as Xingqiu as a solo unit (she does more damage than Xingqiu when they're paired together because Xingqiu makes up for some of her energy while providing hydro resonance and resistance shred via constellations). This is mostly due to her worse particle generation in teams with inflexible on-fielders (like hu tao, cyno, or yoimiya).
    In addition, Ayato still provides better hydro application (in addition to off-field presence) that Neuvillette does not (though this difference doesn't mean much for most people who don't care that much about combat).

    There is a clear power difference between Ayato and Neuvillette. Sadly a lot of people will think this means Ayato is no good, when he is actually very good when built. Def 'good enough' for any normal content. Ayato is also very easy to play.
    I've already seen a thumbnail stating that people should not pull for Ayato his next banner. But if someone needs a hydro DPS now and not in half-a-year (blind guess about a rerun) or just likes Ayato, it really is their own business. Not everyone is trying to clear the Abyss in record time.

    Genshin also is known for pulling out and deviate the next characters to single out those that are strong (leaving an element on the floor to burst your dendro seeds), if Neuvillette is strong and people are juicing over the prospect of a future unit to further improve his damage like a hp buffer... then we can most likely expected that character to never come out or be so restrictive in its mechanics to not make Neuvillette stronger, maybe they will be hydro too so either you want Furina or this character but all 3 of them will reduce your options. Venti was the closest this game had to a must pull, and now he is in line.
    Another thing is that for some reason they love to put all hydro characters into 5-star rarity, the game has seen 7! 5 stars while only 1 4-star since 1.0 so the competition is really piling up, in the same way that pyro is overstack with onfield dps. Cryo is funnily the more varied element on their roster, everyone in a way have something distinctive, and they lack a reaction with dendro.

    My hope is that Neuvillette just signals a small boost in numbers for newer characters, in the same way that Ganyu did. They eventually pulled back on how good post-Ganyu 5*s were (Xiao and Ayato are great characters but were definitely more balanced). My speculation is that Ganyu and the powerful 5*s that came after her were an overcorrection from the Zhongli fiasco and if I had to guess now, the reason Neuvillette is so powerful is because HYV are trying to introduce more variety now that Hyperbloom and Dendro in general has pushed the damage ceiling a little higher. Hopefully they'll reign it back a bit in future patches

I want my favorite characters to be strong is a good example on how I can clear abyss with non meta characters in Abyss but it has great cost though lots of investment on Weapons and artifacts but for me its worth it though theres challenge and fun, The first 3 starter characters are C6 and Crowned. The 3 starters are my favorite characters specially Amber. I may have all the Pyro Units but Amber really got stronger on my Acc with really good artifacts, Im not saying Amber is good she is the worst Pyro to play for a casual player but as an Amber Main she is my favorite character my proudest Built on my Acc. Amber is the lowest tier but I can clear content as much I can build teams around her, same as Lisa and Kaeya. The weaker character can be viable as long as you know bennet's favorite catch phrase into heart, Teamwork is Dreamwork!

    Constellations are clearly powercrepted in the way that more recent characters are deliberately designed to have a problem to their base core gameplay. And you're supposed to solve that by whaling on C1 or C2. See Dehya, Wrio and to a lesser extend Neuvillette and cherry picking Baizhu. Have not played Lyney.

      The issue I have is, just because a "better" version exists doesn't make the "current" flawed. It's like feeling the need to always catch up to the newest iphone when your current likely can last 5 years. They're made with CHALLENGING kits that force you to learn how to use them optimally, because challenging is fun whereas their cons make it easier and stronger, because, of course, CONS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HUGE UPGRADES. If it was like dislyte where copies just gave little stat boost then genshin wouldn't even have half the revenue it does today. The characters are fine at c0, but they get better at c1-c2, which btw, is already hoyo being nicer because recent characters "best constellation" have been becoming more and more accessible to f2p

    I think it was important for Neuvillette to be super strong as he is the first dragon sovereign to be playable. The sovereigns are described as stronger than archons, so by default, they must powercreep the human characters (or even the archons) in order to stay true to the lore. Remember the outrage when the god of geo, Zhongli, was underwhelming on his release? He is the only character that Hoyoverse reworked immediately because he is an archon and it's important that his position corresponds to his gameplay. Dehya also had the same outrage, but Hoyoverse did not do anything because in their point of view, she's not worth reworking.

      This is the whole point of the video. They will never add an anemo shield on par with zhongli's because geo having a strong shield is zhongli's niche. If there was a strong anemo shield that rivals zhongli + the ability to res shred nobody would ever want zhongli as you now have a defensive character that replaces a healer/shielder slot as well as an anemo res shred that can potentially replace sucrose, kazuha and venti, freeing an entire slot in many comps which can either raise the damage ceiling by alot for a team or make a team with an already high damage ceiling even harder to kill.

    @drekhunter 7 месяцев назад +6

    Hoyo is afraid of having to make content, say they were to release something that powercrept XL or Bennett, nothing would happen because they were already overtuned even for the hardest content.
    Nevillette is better than Ayato (Ayato has good AoE off field app tho) and yet I wouldn't say he took his spot because that spot is open for ANYTHING!
    The only way this would become a problems is if the game actually start asking for better units above the ones we already know are busted, not gonna happen anytime soon because we have over 70 characters and the most we ever needed are 12 and that's not permanent content.
    Hoyo endgame is confusing, they release characters, don't make any content that requires them release weaker units with more requirements to do the same or less and move on with another one, there are several ways to go around this without leaving players out but actually making them want to get more and more and yet they don't.
    Want some easy endgame rewarding and powercreep safe? survival, each character has a path, rotate 4 trials every month and let players use the trial or their own, give gems at the easy stages and then artifact xp the higher you go or let us choose, mora XP or arti XP or better yet RESIN.
    There, you have something to do with Ayato with Qiqi with Dehya WITH WHOEVER you have and you ain't missing for not having units since you'll see them eventually in rotation if you don't have them.

    • @saurusness
      @saurusness  7 месяцев назад +4

      YES! That's precisely the sort of end game content I'd like to see - we were talking about this on stream not long ago! Mind you, I actually do like the abyss, and wouldn't want the abyss to be removed, but I'd like to see more challenges that push you to try new things (characters or teams), or test your skill (say aim or dodging etc). I like the idea of gems and artefact XP being rewards in particular. Another possible reward could be some sort of credits where if you collect enough, you get to pick a 4 star character or something.

    • @AzureDrag0n1
      @AzureDrag0n1 7 месяцев назад

      @@saurusness I found characters that come with free crit much much easier to build. This extends into their other games like Star Rail. Jingliu took a few weeks to build where she easily surpassed my Jing Yuan who I spent months farming for. The 50% free crit rate she gives does a lot to make farming easier. Ayaka was middle of the road for me in terms of building her since she also gets some free crit damage. I just never got very good luck with her artifacts.
      The problem with Ayaka is that Blizzard Strayer is much worse against bosses who you can not freeze. Now there are tons of bosses in the abyss where Melt teams will probably do better. There are even regular enemies who just so happen to by freeze immune for some reason like those Hydro Phantasms.

    People tends to exagerate when it comes to genshin. Aside spiral abyss room 12, everything can be completed with literally every single character in the party (including candace). So while some characters may be stronger than other, it really does not matter in this game, as there was no such challenge for these characters

    • @saurusness
      @saurusness  7 месяцев назад +2

      You missed the point slightly 😅 It's not that some units can't be used in the abyss for example, it's that they don't compare to other ones would fill a similar role, and thus they either have to b much higher invested or have very specific team mates to get the same results, if that makes sense. THAT SAID, like I said: this hasn't actually become an issue *yet*, nor do I expect it to become an issue, but that doesn't remove the possibility that it theoretically **could** happen. But I repeat: the ambient power creep which is the real risk of power creep hasn't happened yet.

    Great video points!
    Although, I think this is more telling of the lack of proper endgame combat modes than character balance. If we had different combat goals and ways to get those goals (including temporary character buffs, stage effects, niche mechanic enemies, etc.) then the basic balance would be less of an issue. For example:
    Create a weekly combat endgame mode. Note that Xiangling is used too much in previous weeks. Release a stage effect reducing the crit rate of any Pyro "deployables" by 100%. Suddenly you have less use of Xiangling for that week. Next week Yae is too strong, hence new stage effect. Or maybe release a character specific buff for a week: QiQi gains cryo infusion with a fixed Crit rate and Crit DMG of 100:500.
    Having a weekly rotation keeps tge game fresh and encourages players to use diverse characters. If someone is busted for a week then it is okay.

    Great video, the analysis was superb.
    I am not even close to being a meta player, completely avoiding Xiangling and Bennett since release with extremely rare cases in which I use them.
    I've been playing with the same team since Nahida's release with Yae, Nahida, and Kokomi, with the only change being replacing my 4th with Dehya since I got her in her banner (she is one of the most fun and balanced characters in the game).
    Also, I completely hate Abyss, so I barely do a single run each cycle for 33-34 stars using the same two teams each time (my main from above, and the second being Raiden/Yoimiya, with Yelan, Xingqiu, and Sucrose/Fischl).
    The two reasons I don't even bother with it is that from a game design standpoint it's one of the worst contents ever made in any game. And the other is that it requires heavy investment in artifact farming which is the second thing I hate in this game. I have stopped farming artifacts for more than a year with barely spending half in hour in 2023 for a few piece from some of the new sets just to try them (most of them are horrendous).

    in sumeru, i needed an electro and dendro character (sometimes pyro) for the puzzles in the rainforest and the uhhhhh aggravate (???) reaction is really good at dmg for me !!! yae and collei both have off-field dmg things they can do so i can also have time in a rotation to play noelle :)
    over the past year, i've gotten ayaka, shenhe and kokomi, i've used them with shenhe to make a nice team. i wanted shenhe since she came out (i love pretty women) but . .. whats the point of having a shenhe without an ayaka. so i waited half a year for ayaka and even longer for shenhe. and then i decided to get kokomi because she's got a very pretty design
    i got neuvillette when he came out (he is a very pretty man) and i was crazy lucky enough to get both homa and neuvillette's signature weapon, and even with the artifacts i've farmed so far (really not a lot, i think i've done the domain like 15-20 times tops) and with high talents, he is really good . like stupidly good . genshin is so pay-to-win it's insane but he's also got a really smooth playstyle and a very nice design.
    i really hope in the future that i can still use my original team, despite power creep in the abyss

    • @saurusness
      @saurusness  7 месяцев назад +1

      I would say the characters in your team are all good, it just happens their overall synergy isn't good enough for tougher content (like the abyss). Noelle and Yunjin are brilliant, but since Geo doesn't cause useful reactions with other elements (currently) and no reaction at all with Dendro, that's why the team won't compete in more difficult content, even though it'll be plenty good in the OW. Also if you ever felt like making a mono-Geo team, it would help with Noelle's energy rechange needs, and yae + collei + dendro traveller + kokomi would make for a great quickbloom team!

    To be honest, some minor power creep was needed. At least for hydro. With the extremely broken bloom and hyperbloom reactions, what would be the point in pulling for a hydro dps? Unless it's an amazing dps with crazy numbers, people would prefer hydro enablers/appliers over raw dps.
    For me, neuvilette brought back vaporize (using him in a burning/vaporize team). With ayato, I went hyperbloom.
    Also, they were very smart making him a CA unit, cutting off most supports and even yelan and xq. I can go ayato+yelan+xq against single target and clear faster than neuvi does. So, it's not really a powercreep

  • @alliu6562

    I feel like although they do hit different niches, Neuvillette is unfortunately just more powerful as a stand-alone character than Ayato. I used Ayato since his release in my overworld team, but after Neuvillette came out and I swapped them… Neuvillette just feels better to play. Especially since his mobility is way better and I’m not locked into a single spot if I want his full dps potential. Neuvillette’s dps is just flat out higher and his uptime isn’t fully reliant on his skill cooldown.
    That being said, Ayato is much more comfortable on bloom related teams bc his hydro application is just more suitable to its rotations, especially in multi wave scenarios with short rotations, and much more forgiving if you mess up a rotation. Neuvillette is far more suited to long rotations, and if you mess up his rotation and don’t apply hydro correctly to enemies you can lose a ton of damage to enemies by not activating all 3 stacks of his passive.

      Very true! The biggets difference between them I would say is just how much easier Neuvillette is to build. Even as a f2p you can unlock his full potential with much lower investment. Ayato will still remain one of my faves, and definitely first choice for bloom driver!

You start with flat damage, then percent health damage, then its gonna be enemy percent health damage, then we gonna get true damage or at least high defense reduction on a main dps. (this is only for the main dps' btw), supports are easier to spread out over niches but main dps' cant help but power creep.

    Well based on our 3 years+ playing genshin, it's safe to say that during 3 years journey in tevyat no one has been power crept so bad they becoming useless, especially due to abyss iterations nature, example for old chars:
    1. Venti who can't cc'd lots of new enemies atm, but he's still a cheat code when you encounter enemies that can be cc'd and floor 9-11 usually filled with this type of enemies
    2. Noelle and Jean suddenly find find their place on top tier char as furina being introduced. So, if u like a particular character though he/she's relatively bad at the current patch go hyperinvest on them, i am optimistic there will be time when their prime time will be coming as more character introduced or new mechanics being found. Though if u want safe, efficient and effective investment, some future proof chars does exist.

    Very good video, and an important thing to bring up about powercreep is we got an abyss where unit dmg is less important than elemental application with the lectors, and according to leaks next abyss we're getting hydro enemies one half and geo shielded enemies the other.
    Add to that, it's an abyss that finally hit the 4 million health wall on chamber 12-3, and Neuvillette literally can't damage the tulpa. So, Neuvillette may be crazy but he's only as good as the content he's allowed to go against, unlike for example Ayato, where his ability to trigger more off-field effects can still be relevant, such as C6 Fischl and Thoma for burgeon+overload (which will be good next abyss, just saying)
    Also for tulpa half coming up, not important to the video or anything. But it's really cool we got an abyss that encourages Burn-Melt so it becomes Burgeon, or try Bennett-less Xiangling team comps to avoid getting vaped

    if they care about the lore
    the most powerful beings are the Archons and S.Dragons for their element.
    for example Neuvillette should not be directly powercrept by any new hydro dps, since he is the hydro sovereign so no other hydro beings should go above him lore wise.
    just like how Zhongli will remain the best Shielder. he shouldn't be powercreeped or Venti has the strongest CC (yes i know Kazuha exist. but they are little bit diffrent)

    I think any powercreep I have noticed has been actually in overworld abilities. Furina for example: she can walk on water longer than Kokomi, and Wriothesley ice bridges faster than ayaka.
    As for DPS and actual combat, there are some instances where neuvillette has stronger raw power than Ayato, for example. But some units like Wriothesley are pretty much equal to someone like Ayaka (they are used in different teams too, though). I think Furina as a support is helping make healers like Jean and baizhu more relevant and that’s good. But as long as you can still clear the abyss with as many stars possible it’ll be ok

    I don’t necessarily agree with the point this video is trying to make. Neuvillette is a very powerful on-field hydro unit in terms of damage and AOE hydro application, but lacks any off-field hydro application; a very powerful fear to have that Ayato will always have over Neuvillette. It’s also arguable that Tartaglia’s hydro application surpasses Neuvillette’s. While requiring more skill and attention, Childe is still extremely capable and has not been powercrept by Neuvillette’s release. Most units in Genshin have their use. If a character does not have a use, it’s not a stretch to say that they don’t really fit into the game in the first place

He performs better in some aspects but lacks in others, meaning that if you need a character with impressive on-field hydro application and damage, as well as a respectable amount of off-field hydro application, you would choose Ayato over Neuvillette. If you need impeccable hydro application that isn’t single target, you would choose Childe. If you need single target hydro application, Xinqiu or Yelan would be better options. Neuvillette is great but he fits into a niche without making anyone necessarily useless

    • @raptori
      @raptori 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@Sacred__ I agree with your overall point (introduction of new characters doesn't make existing ones useless, unless ambient powercreep happens to the point where they are - which is not even remotely happening here), but personally the only time I used Ayato was when I wanted a hydro main, and in that niche Neuvi definitely outclasses him.
      The only times I've used Ayato for that combination of off-field and on-field hydro is a dual-main-DPS freeze team with Ganyu, which is fun to play, but is waaay far off being powerful enough to be usable in the abyss sadly. So basically what the vid said: I bring out Ayato because he's fun and I want to enjoy his playstyle, but if I ever need to care about the team's damage then he's benched in favour of Neuvi. Ayato in the same teams could probably still clear the content (since no ambient powercreep), but picking him would definitely be in spite of him being comparatively less strong!

    • @saurusness
      @saurusness  7 месяцев назад +1

      Raptori said it already, but indeed just because a character *directly* powercreeps another doesn't mean the other character is bad or becomes 'useless' automatically. This will only happen if ambient power creep starts raping up, and certain powerful characters (or worse; their constellations) are *needed* to complete content, which isn't yet the case!
      The very beauty of genshin's combat system is that it's complex and allows for a LOT of wiggle room, and thus even characters who have totally different kits can be used to beat the same content - you simply switch up your strategy!
      But the bottom line is, 1 character being more more powerful does not make the other any less powerful than they were, AND it is not an issue in of itself, as long as the other characters are still viable (and they are) :)

    I gotta be honest. Don't get me wrong, nuevelitte is a super cool character and I rlly wanted him but let me share a controversial thing
    Nuevelitte is only good for the player using him. Due to him being ridiculously OP, he isn't fun to have in a co-op team. He shreds everything in domains and you're kinda stood there with a character you invested alot in and no opportunity to use it.
    Nuevelitte mains have really made co-op experiences far less fun for me to the point that If a nuevellite is playing, I will just stand to the side because there's literally nothing else to do.
    I think its different than other characters too. Nuevelitte has a tendency to hog the field and take away most opportunities to do combat and get kills.
    We don't all enjoy someone clearing a domain in 20 seconds. I use domains to test builds as i'm building characters.
    Not hating either, nuevelitte is still someone I want but i'm sharing a different perspective

    • @saurusness
      @saurusness  7 месяцев назад +1

      yeah I think that's totally fair, it's kinda like how co-op with people who have c6 characters just makes it less fun since there's zero challenge and sometimes you don't even get to play!
      And funnily enough, much as I LOVE Neuvillette - both his gameplay and character - the fact that he's so powerful genuinely makes me enjoy him a tiny bit less, odd as that might sound... I do still love him and use him, but after I finished building him and realised his power a small part of me felt a little sad/worried, which is precisely what prompted me to make this video and look deeper into how that *could* affect the game in the future!
      I also use domains to test builds but I mostly do that in solo mode anyway, since I can also test teams while at it 😁

I think the ideal state of the game is that there are hierarchies (ideally consistent with lore for most part) in terms of power, but also that you can play YOUR favorite character (especially 5 star ones) correctly and not feel completely left in the dust. If a character feels useless while being played right, then they need more work.

      @@GodChaos333 The thing is sucrose not only give an EM buff to the whole team, but she also makes a fantastic driver due to being a catalyst user, and can in that case be even the solo EM unit in the team (if you like). Further more, she has continuous CC for the duration of her burst as well as in her skill, so there are a lot of situations where she's personally my first choice! In hyperbloom teams specifically, if I don't use sucrose, I rarely bring an anemo at all ^^

    Neuvillette is insanely strong, yeah, but I wanted him cuz I had no Hydro unit, even if he was bad, I still would have went for him because he's very cute!

      he IS very cute 🥰 I love everything about him; character, design, playstyle, and even if he sometimes feels a little "too powerful", I have no regrets!

    I would say Ayato is more of a driver than a DPS, kinda like Sucrose. He does do good damage, but not main DPS kind of damage.
