Brian, as a Lightfoot fan for 50 years, you are the only artist to have captured his essence. Your phrasing and intonation is incredible, and your acoustic rhythm playing is excellent. I fancied to hire a lead and bass player in the mode of his early years with Red/Terry and Stockfish/Haynes, and give a go to what you have done. But now that I have heard you, I know I can't hold a candle. Well done sir.
I saw Gordon a few years ago again and I’m hesitant to admit I was so sad watching him I had to leave at intermission. Just didn’t want to remember him like that. I’d love to see these guys in concert to carry on that torch.
Brian I’ve been listening to all your covers of Gordon Lightfoot and I close my eyes and it’s like listening to the man himself back years ago great memories of the folk scene thanks for posting, Martin from Ireland 👏👏👏
Absolutely fantastic.. I've been a Lightfoot fan since I discovered his music in the early 70's and you nail every song.. You Sir, are very talented... Thank you....
wow, this was a great rendition and what a voice, Thanks for sharing. And this was 11 years ago. I will happily join your group to hear more. And share with family. Keep on posting sir.
Interesting how several have said this is their favorite from Gord. That LP is arguably his very best - and that cut is the one that gets played the most at our house. Brian, your cover is so true to the original, just as we're accustomed to from you. Your playing and singing are true Gord all the way. Nice accompaniment on the mandolin, too, Mark.
GL's best LP, and this is the best cut on it. I stop by regularly to enjoy your covers, Brian - and send people here quite often. You are Gord's vocal double. Thank you.
Your covers of Gordon Lightfoot are the very, very best I have heard. Your version of this song is one of my favourites by far. Have you ever met Mr. Lightfoot before? I think he would be amazed at this cover by you. I like the songs of sadness the best.
Gordon is getting rather senior and I am glad that you took up the sword. You nailed every song that I have heard so far, love this style of music and am glad to see that it will continue long after Gordon and I am walking the Streets of Gold.
Your usual high standard again Brian , I'm a fan of yours. All that period of GL I was soaking up his songs, and " Talking in Your Sleep " was up there with the best. Mark's a nice player and sound is good too. I know it's 'as is' SO. ( big mouth here ) I'd love to hear it again with Mark, a nice arrangement is a-begging there...would be worth the effort. ! Jim
Superb cover as always Brian. Hats off to both and Mark. You are such a a good guitar picker and your vocals are the best. Really enjoyed this one. GL has some excellent lyrics on this song....Keep them coming. Great pure sound....Nick
Fantastic! Probably my favorite Gordy song, then again the were so many.. Great job guys. I wonder if you could sing even better when you're not playng? Really enjoyed it. Very profesional production. I miss you're dogs though... Peace & Harnony bri
Outstanding---finally audio quality that does justice to your guitar and vocals--I sincerely feel yours are the best Gord covers I've ever heard---Put out some CD's!
@hochbob My other's a CF Mountain, and it's my favorite guitar. The Guild is a much deeper sound with less high end, but a great guitar as well. Thanks for listening.
Do,you by chance know the 1960's song by Gene Pitney called "Only Love Can Break a Heart?" It's one of those incredibly sad heart felt songs and just wondering if you might consider covering it? I think you would be someone who could sing that song and bring much justice to it like you have done on this heartfelt Gordon Lightfoot song.
Outstanding as usual. First time I've seen the Guild. I play a 1972 D-44M which looks a lot like yours and it rings like a bell. How does your Guild compare to your other guitar that looks like a Martin? All the best.
LOVE this song. You do it flawlessly. Wonderful, don't know how I missed this but I did. Hey howd you like playing that Guild? I've never played one but have a feeling one day I'll add one to the collection.
SO well done, guys! Maybe you'll know the answer to a question I've had for 46 years: On the record, what is Gordon singing during the instrumental part? It seems to be a men's chorus singing, "I think of the day" over and over again. Do either of you know?
Wow - Really well done! I love this song and have a question about it: During the instrumental break on Gordon's recording, and men's chorus (a GREAT men's chorus) sings something that I can't understand. It's always sounded like "I think of the day," and is repeated often. Any idea what the they're actually singing? Thanks, and again, great work!
@7761864 There's a couple of GL' s..such wealth of great songs from the man. Certainly, 'Softly' is one. It was my'nearly famous' song, ( I had a GL line-up at the time ). We came 2nd in a national TV ( xfactor kinda ) show and played the 'All Winners' ' show too with the same song. 1975. Sadly no recording of the shows, other than audio. Opportunity Knocks it was called. RE : TIY Sleep...Mark's a fine player,if/when you do a cd, give him a call....for now, Jim

I felt the same way in Southend on Sea in GB some years ago....
Brian I’ve been listening to all your covers of Gordon Lightfoot and I close my eyes and it’s like listening to the man himself back years ago great memories of the folk scene thanks for posting, Martin from Ireland 👏👏👏
Thanks for the kind words Martin.
