Almost twenty years after the death of his father, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Seun Kuti honors his legacy with a constancy embodied in his loyalty to Egypt 80, the “Black President’s” historic group. The thirty-something heads up this magnificent Tribute to Fela - presented in 2016 in Paris - whose guests bespeak the universal nature of Afrobeat and the message it conveys. Warmed up by the ten minutes of "Kalakuta Show" (1976), the evening then brings together the Franco-Cuban twins Ibeyi, the Malian keyboardist Cheick Tidiane Seck, the American rapper Talib Kweli, and of course Tony Allen, Fela’s drummer and the architect of the Afrobeat rhythm. As an introduction, Seun Kuti invites the audience to leave Paris and follow him to Lagos, to the Shrine that his father made in a trance. With this footage, we’re taking off with him!
