Hi Sue, The idea is this. God certainly does love humanity, but the reasons for his loving humanity are his reasons, and not what we might think. We might think that he loves us because of this or that, but the motivations for God's love for us are HIS reasons, and not what we might think his reason should be. We are by nature sinners, but he chooses to love us anyway. So the reasons for his love for mankind aren't because we are so lovable, but because he is so loving. Hope this helps.
