My 9 month old choked on an avocado yesterday, like properly choked. It was terrifying and I am too afraid to continue trying baby led weaning. It sucks because I feel like he will be behind in his eating skills, but after going through that, I can’t take the risk of ever losing him.
My 6 month old baby choked on a soft carrot yesterday too. He doesn’t really gag on his food just takes big chunks off and tries to swallow. I’ve tried BLW but it’s just too stressful especially now he has his first 2 teeth it’s just easier to bite a bit chunk off!
@@sophier8008 yeah, we took a step back from it after this happened and just fed him what felt right and safe for us and eventually he got much better at handling different foods. They make you feel like if you don’t do BLW, your baby is going to have issues with food, but that’s just not true. I say it’s better to do what feels right for you and not feel pressured to do what everyone else is doing. Purées are totally fine and they will eventually get the hang of eating no matter what.
My baby had/has serious medical issues so we were behind on feeding solids to begin with. Now, I have so much trauma from almost losing her for other reasons, I just can't hardly bring myself to feed her anything not soft. I try to do what I can. But she's almost 10 mo old and I'm still struggling. But she isn't picky and loves all food so I hope that continues even if I don't do a good job with other things.
@@sarahhernandez5425I think you should just enjoy your daughter and don’t get uptight about feeding, I thank god my kids are grown with families of their own because I don’t think I could have ever sat and said good job if mine were choking, sorry gagging, we just fed them what we thought was right at the time and never had a problem and never heard of anyone going through what poor mothers are having to put up with now. This BLW gives me the creeps.
OMG. Watching this makes me more nervous than I thought. It's very helpful. And I think I'm gonna need to watch more of these before my baby starts BLW.
The scary thing is at what point do you determine if your baby is legitimately choking. Do you wait until they are blue? This is also a waste of food. For years , kids have learned how to eat without baby weaning.
It’s possible. You should learn the clear differences between gagging and choking. Gagging helps prevent choking when there is too much food. It’s important to let baby work the food forward on their own. Don’t pat back or stick your finger in baby’s mouth, it can push food further down the throat, making the situation worse. If baby is choking you won’t hear gagging sounds, you won’t see any crying. Most babies go through a time where anything in their mouth thicker than breast milk or formula will cause a gag but eventually they learn. Good luck.
Good lord. Gagging can absolutely lead to chocking… why torture the child? Either cure the darn pieces smaller , or back off until they have teeth and are actually ready. Not a single child here is ready for what is being offered to them. You can do this safely . This is absolutely not it
Some if them dont look old enough to eat on their own .they put too much in their mouth and spit out all the food .got to teach them how much they should be putting in their mouth because they're not Smart enough to understand that yet
I don't have any choking videos b/c babies don't choke if they're sitting safely in a high chair being fed safe modified versions of foods the rest of the family is eating :) ...lots gagging videos for you tho!
@@babyledweaning Are you serious? This is a very harmful statement. My baby did all of the above and was eating food he has easily eaten many times and still choked. Not gagged, choked. I waited a few seconds before intervening thinking it was another gag but 5 seconds felt like forever after I realised the food had disappeared from his mouth and he was not breathing and I saw the panic in his eyes. I performed life saving back blows and the food came out. He is alive because of my instincts and actions.
I usually just take off their clothes that way i dont need to wash the food ..why do parents dressup their babies in pretty clothes they're going to make q mess eventually

I would never put my baby thru that gagging and choking.
What happen if a baby can’t manage gagging after some tries?? Can they start chocking?
