That triple string solo into that bass bridge into that mandolin section blows my mind every time. This is the greatest tbt song ever imo. I wish songs from a ghost town was available on vinyl.
"The Outskirts" Well I turned around in time to see the clouds fade, running back could only make them stay. Forward now I run down a winding road, try to pay back everything that I have ever owed. And when your money runs, will you buy a friend? And when your guns don't fire, will that be the end? With no land left to burn, and nowhere left to run, where then can we stand when it's all said and done? [Chorus:] Well I hear the thunder roll, I feel the cold winds blowing, but you won't find me there, 'cause I won't go back again. While you're on smoky roads, I'll be out in the sun, where the trees still grow, where they count by one [?] Well you take from our schools to build a bigger bomb, you tell us fiery lies about the course we're on. And you'll kill all the world, and you'll reverse the sun, and which would you sell first, your soul or your gun? [Chorus:] But I hear the thunder roll, I feel the cold wind blowing, but you won't find me there, 'cause I won't go back again. While you're on smoky roads I'll be out in the sun, where the trees still grow, where they count by one [?]
Songs From A Ghost Town is one of the best albums of all time. No filler! I'm guessing the political message of this song, written during the Dubya admin., is why they don't do it live. Maybe they think it's no longer relevent. I love the line " where the trees still grow, where they count by one" meaning where 1 life still matters. If you've ever been to northern MN, you'd know what they mean.
Agreed best fucking song I've heard in a long time and my personal Turtle favorite. I asked him in Dallas why they didn't play this and he said it was one of their "older" song but yet they played whiskey off the same album. If I had to guess there is something significant about this one that made them take it out of the rotation. Hope they start playing it again ...
This song was written by simonett during the clinton administration. My buddy asked ryan why they never play it and he said it was because simonett refuses to, every other member of the band wants to play it but apparently dave put it on the shelf for good. How about that bass solo jam toward the end, DAMN!!!! They need to play their older stuff at shows too, not digging the new album
I heard this song on a 4:30am drive time and couldn't get over it. Too foggy and smokey to Shazam. I e-mailed the radio station to get the name. Two weeks later, and they found it. Love it!
TBT is my favorite band... and every time I hear a song, I get infatuated with it, regardless of what album. I cannot stop listening to them, period. Absolute favorite band, and they have pure talent, no thanks to computer generated sound :) Yay for true talent!!!!
Ah now here's the Trampled I know and love, Wild Animals is getting a little too airy and whimsical for me, not saying it's not good...just not my tempo
Bad ass song I visit that ghost town almost every night But somehow by daylight I m gone Usually waking up at home With my powder dry And one of my pistols Gone I m that twisted and rotten forgotten son Running for my life All along Been set up and bushwhacked by em all So The boys are always after me It's just the way it's gotta be Money spends Sometimes for bad sometimes for fun No longer strong Just a Broken down old man Waiting to be fell Haunted by all the stories and songs They tell From on the road To hell Still living under the gun Cannot even buy a friend No one Nothing left to burn Nowhere left to turn Just the smokey end to a Son of a gun (Thanks Turtles you boys have saved me A thousand times)
Why the fuck is whiz khalifa a suggested video at the end of this song. Trampled by Turtles = lyrical genious mixed with instrument skill.. Wiz= bitches champaign and air planes and some beats made by his producer
I agree it's still relevent. I voted for Obama and have been disappointed with some of the concessions he's made, like with Patriot Act extensions, etc. But he'll get my vote in 2012 because Romney will be even worse than Bush or Obama. He made a quote something like "I'll make the military so strong no country will even think of attacking us" Gives you an idea of what his plans are. Regardless of politics, TBT is a great band. See them live if you can.
I'm trying to follow the lyrics here. Who is he asking which you will sell first your soul or your gun? When I hear that line, I think neither will ever be for sale by me. Hopefully not my country either.
I interpret this kind in an existential way. Not to question your right to own a gun but the insanity of it all. Life I mean. Who we are. What we were. Who will we become. It's a provocative lyric to me on a humane level. Not a political one. I adore this song. It's a stunning melancholic ballad. Beautifully made. Art.
one of my most favourite tracks ever in a life so far of 67 years of love of music - all music across such a huge spectrum. This says it all.
I couldn't have said it better. 😊

Bad ass song
I visit that ghost town almost every night
But somehow by daylight I m gone
Usually waking up at home
With my powder dry
And one of my pistols
Gone
I m that twisted and rotten forgotten son
Running for my life
All along
Been set up and bushwhacked by em all
So The boys are always after me
It's just the way it's gotta be
Money spends
Sometimes for bad sometimes for fun
No longer strong
Just a
Broken down old man
Waiting to be fell
Haunted by all the stories and songs
They tell
From on the road
To hell
Still living under the gun
Cannot even buy a friend
No one
Nothing left to burn
Nowhere left to turn
Just the smokey end to a
Son of a gun
(Thanks Turtles you boys have saved me
A thousand times)

not a clue, but i got the drum solo down!
Yes, it takes quite a lot of practice to master that note-less masterpiece of a drum solo.

He wrote it during the Clinton era...🤷🏽♂️
My soul is far more important than a tool.
