Thank you so much for the tour. So interesting. I recently acquired a Buddha Belly caudex plant here in Fl to go with my adeniums, ponytail palm, and pregnant onion plants. The caudex world is so intriguing.
Rachel, I am absolutely excited with this series of videos at Kew. I am crazy about some caudex plants, wonder why I do not have more, maybe because only now they are getting available here 😉 One thing I am very interested in and have always fascinated me are the intelligent strategies plants use to survive and multiply as well as the simbiotic relationships they create with other plants and insects. Amazing world !!!!!
Thank you so much for sharing this! What interesting plants and trees this family is. I wish I had a few of them. Ah well best I watch them on videos and such, I don't need another collection to care for!
Rachel, as usual so interesting especially when you can’t travel across the ocean. But I also wanted to check...when was the led grow light giveaway winner going to be announced. I didn’t remember seeing what the time period was going to be. Thanks Thanks for sharing both of these videos -Kew.
Good morning and thank you for your interest. I haven't closed the competition yet. I will probably announce the winners in another video, rather than a separate one so keep tuned!
I have 2 adansonia grandidieri and 2 adansonia digitata, which i'm keeping on growing. They will kick me out of the house soon. Hhh They are already prepared to survive a long drought at age one. ^^
Can these be propagated? I bought recently bough a stephania erecta and I’m wondering if there is a way to propagate it and the new plant have a bulb as well.
I've been hearing about so many illegal poaching and selling of these types of rare plants that are making them endangered? Though they are beautiful I'm learning to either adore them from afar, grow them from seeds, or do the research to find a nursery ethically growing and selling them.
I think caudex plants are quite easy-care plants. There are many different ones, however, and some are much more fussy than others. For the easier ones, if you have a sunny space and are not someone who tends to overwater then they should do well.
I don’t know how to text or DM you, but I was hoping to get in touch with you about seeing if I deserved a Boophane. I’m 53, 33 years married, 2 grown children, and have my first 2 grands. I would love them all to experience the Beauty and wonder of such a gracious and elegant creature. A creature of Gods own green thumb...the Boophane. But only if I’m worthy!
I loved seeing those older Welwitschia's. I have a bunch of Wely's but they're al young I can't wait to see mine get big like those.
Lucky you. Mind them well!! 👍

It sounds like you are already hooked. Thanks for watching.
What a Joy to see...
Thanks Rachel....
So glad you liked it ❤
Like my son said the other day: plants are awesome!
Wise boy 😊
Very nice information about caudex plants. They are definitely interesting plants. Does the 2000 years bulb ever grow a flower?
I don't think the plant produces flowers, just male or female cones. There is a cone on one of the plants in my video.
How wonderful to see!

You are very welcome 😊
Love it! And if we wait around long enough, evolution will turn one of our hands into the shape of a phone.
Haha 😀
If that were true we would have one hand that grows toilet paper by now, I am glad that is not the case lol.
Hey I love your videos! What’s the chubby little plant at 6:37?? Happy growing! :))
Thank you. I think that is a dorstenia.

Rachel: "this plant has shot up to the top of my wish list, I really must get one"
Kew Gardens: "hey, we're missing a Welwitschia"
Rachel: 🤷🏻♀️
😜
Ah now, come on 😇😇😇
I have 2 adansonia grandidieri and 2 adansonia digitata, which i'm keeping on growing. They will kick me out of the house soon. Hhh They are already prepared to survive a long drought at age one. ^^
Ahh, yes, it is so hard to keep those collections in manageable proportions 😀
Mmm, in Pokemon there's a Torterra which looks like a Tortoise with a bonsai on the shell. Totally Elephant's Foot Caudex.
Such copy cats 🤣
Ant plant was really cool there ! Why do they need so many pelargonium cotyledonis ??? Thanks again for great video !!!
Hi Liga and thanks. Kew seem to do a lot of propagation. No idea what they eventually do with the surplus.
@@GardeningatDouentza do they have plant shop there too ?
Yes, they did. I think it was quite smalti but i had no time to look around.
I see ,thanks 😉

You would need to look that up!
WOW
I have some. Mainly species from all over madagascar
Sounds like a super collection!
5:30 what is that pineapple shaped plant?
You know, I can't remember the name. It's on the tip of my tongue.
Hii
I've been hearing about so many illegal poaching and selling of these types of rare plants that are making them endangered? Though they are beautiful I'm learning to either adore them from afar, grow them from seeds, or do the research to find a nursery ethically growing and selling them.
Thanks for watching and, yes, sound advice for caudex collection.
@@GardeningatDouentza Thank you for the vid! Enjoyed watching it so much!
would you consider these as easy-care plants?

Gardening at Douentza I was looking into the phyllanthus mirabilis, but couldn’t find much info. Any thoughts?

Haha. You don't need my permission to buy a boophone!
