Hey big guy… you try the little 1” wide by 2” strip of 3m scotch brite… in your split mandral or a flattened cotter pin… spray it with WD40 and spray WD40 on your exhaust port and polish it up… your metal makes a paste and it’ll polish up like glass in two passes and 5 minutes… saves a shit load of time polish up the exhaust! I use the marker and then scratch my little line… my marker is basically the machinist dye!!! 😉👍

Thorne, that is top secret information! Now everyone will have mirror finished exhaust ports with ease. 👍 Works great on old aluminum rims too.

@@230e4 well…I’ll tell ya…I made custom jewelry for 20 years before getting into porting saw’s… I’ve definitely learned to polish up metal and can make a port really shine… but nothing I’ve ever seen work’s this fast and easy!!!! Two 3-4 minute sessions with the scotch brite and some WD40 and your damn near up at 1500 step up… and it’s from rough super scratchy and it’s got to be the WD40 and the strip of scotch brite… it’s crazy fast!!! It’s the aluminum grindings being mixed with the waxes of the WD40 and that’s creating a self feeding aluminum oxide buffing compound with the removed aluminum…freakin polish’s itself into a mirror… a little buff wheel with a little ZAM stick metal polish and it’s glass!!! You need to wipe down the cylinder with acetone to remove the grit because it’s a wax regular soap or degreaser will not cut and remove it completely!!! I love this quick exhaust port hack!!!

@@DaveyBlue32 that's cool, my better half makes jewelry too. I had a Ford Ranger in high school with aluminum slot wheels, I would clean those wheels up every week with a brillo pad but a mirror finish could not be found until my dad amused by my determination handed me a gallon can of WD-40, a die grinder, and pad. Saved my fingers and rewarded me with the shiniest wheels in the school parking lot. Then I got into mudding and the polishing was over till I grew up.

@@230e4 Right on Brother! You should get up with me on Facebook messenger… so I can get a mailing address and I’ll sort through my bag and mail her a couple of stones. I worked in marketing and I ended up working for the Lapidary Journal magazine and that got me into cutting stones and jewelry… it’s definitely cool stuff and I had several Foredom’s and tooling so it’s been a really fun transition to grinding my aluminum engine’s LMFFAO!!! Building chainsaw engine’s won out! 😂😂😂😂

Sure am glad you are doing this "class"! You are explaining this very well! And to boot, a elderly friend of mine gave me three 038's, of course all of them have been in the shed for 20+ years but they are not locked up and still have excellent compression!

For getting into the corners to get that last carbon out I have a tool that Amazon sells. They are sanding cones that are rolled up emery paper with a hole in the middle. They wind onto an arbor that comes with the kit. They work great for getting in small radius corners.

The 038 mag was sold up to somewhere in the mid 90’s. I have two, one is a 93 model the other is a 95 model. That’s according to the serial number anyway.

I like all the old brands of saws and a few newer cheaper names aswell! but lately, I've kinda had the stihl bug and this 038 isn't helping my cravings for yet another chainsaw at all😅 keep e'm coming Tinman👍 so long as it doesn't interfere with your family life. I'm loving every episode!!

    • @tinmanssaws
      @tinmanssaws  2 года назад +2

Honestly they all can be ported and get good gains. I'd say macs are the hardest to port only because of their design.

@@victoryfirst2878 remingtons are basically homelite clones so no problem there.
Malls are really old in most cases, May be hard to get gains and keep reliability with something that old.

I got that exact bore scope, & tach from your video several months ago that you suggested. But I still haven't used the scope for a light. It's quite a slick deal. I am finally in the market for a Fordam. I've been using a dremel with a flex shaft, it's ok ya know. I think having speed control @ my foot will improve my work greatly. Hey thanks for the video sir.

Having the foot pedal saves accidents for sure. It's nice to have the tool not running when you're moving in and out of the jug.

    The Lumberjack
    Jackyl
    Composition: Jesse James Dupree
    Ha haaa
I was born in the backwoods
    Of a two-bit nowhere town
Fathered up some rock 'n' roll (baby)
So your mothers could boogie down
    I ain't whistling Dixie
    No I'm a rebel with a groove
All around the world the go 'round and 'round
When they dig on my new stainless steel sound hell, yeah
I'm said a lumberjack oh, baby
And I'm gonna cut you down to size
    I'm a lumberjack now baby
And you're the one you're the one that gets my prize
When you hear my motor running
You know I surely be coppin' a rise
Oh! So I'm gonna crank it up down the alley and jack it
    Woo
    I'm a lumberjack now baby
    I'm a lumberjack now baby
    I'm a lumberjack now baby
Ohh I'm a lumberjack now baby
But I ain't jacked my lumber baby
    Since my chainsaw you
    Ha haaa
Whether you like it or whether you don't woo
That's the way we like it
