Should also note that the tabs on the DD can be broken off to allow a locking hitch pin to be used. The light also sits flush in the receiver so it can't be forced out or broken. The Baja sits outside the receiver and someone with a pry bar can mess with it. It can also be damaged if something hits it.
FWIW I just installed the DD on my truck. It does seem like the cars behind me are keeping a larger distance since I installed the brake light. I think the flashing light is different enough that it gets people’s attention and makes them brake sooner. Or maybe put some their stupid phones while they drive.
I went for the Diode Dynamics specifically for the that low mount brake light feature. I don’t plan on towing anything other than an off-road trailer with my new truck so the quick connection and disconnecting of that light makes it not so bad. If I want to tow I have my old 93 250 as a tow pig haha. Great comparison video. Also one thing to note is the Baja designs light was using a spot light lens while the Diode dynamics light was using a flood light lens so maybe do an update video swapping out the lenses and see how it compares after that. Could be interesting
One issue with these hitch mounted lights that tap into the 7 pin harness for some trucks, is that it thinks you have a trailer attached and you keep getting trailer warnings. Diode Dynamics has a fix that uses an included wire that plugs into the harness then you have to route it up to tap onto the brake light wire. They also offer a way to stop the strobe when you first hit the brakes if you don't like the strobe feature. Another thing, all these guys make it look easy to route the wire through the hitch, but if you have a hitch like mine, it is solid metal at the back, so you have to drill a 7/8" hole to get the wire in.
Diode Dynamics needs to sell the Hitchpod in their Wide optic instead of the Flood optic. Also im curious to see how that Morimoto Boost Bar compares to the newer V-LEDS Reverse bar which uses fewer led chips that are supposed to be more powerful.
I really imagine the vleds reverse bar is brighter, I mean they have the brightest turn signal bulbs out there with the v6 tritons so I couldn't imagine the reverse bar bring any different. I do like morimoto products, but..yeah.
I hate how DD uses this optic for the hitchpod. I use the wide optic for my truck and it’s much better. You do have to cut the bottom of the pod though, where it would normally mount on a universal bracket. The hitchpod pods have a cut out already to slide into the receiver. DD should definitely start incorporating different beam patterns to compete with BD!
@HeadlightRevolution is the "short extension" harness you're connecting on a back something exclusive for this lights package? or is there a generic one i can purchase? I already have a light the connects that way and i would like to connect it from the back rather than on the front. Thank you!
I love the idea of a hitch light The issues are run into is if you use a dedicated receiver like on a super duty that's 2 and 1/2 or 3 in I don't think these worked correctly and also on the new Fords if you plug something into that seven pin adapter underneath it like you're showing it gives you a fault code saying that the trailer is connected
I'll stick with my light bar that is under my tailgate (opt7).. don't need to remove it if I want to use the hitch, don't need a 7 pin connector (ford maverick), looks better than the little light in the middle, is brighter, and a little bit cheaper.
So the DD won. Yikes that means the Baja designs is horrible. I bought the DD and it was so negligible and the light pattern was so narrow it wasn't worth the price then charge. I would hard pass on the DD and if the BD is worse then get neither and wait for someone to make a proper light for this specific application rather than just slapping a fog light into a hitch housing.

That's great!

Maybe we'll do a comparison video one day!

I do agree it would be nice to be able to select which optic, BUT the lens can be swapped and that will allow you to change it.

I like the idea of having to use a hitch pin, I can then lock it in place..
You can lock both in place. The tabs can be cut and a pin put though. I have a locking pin on my DD.
When did you guys buy this Hitchmount? That looks like the first batch that was then redesigned to be brighter and less blue.
I literally had this idea 10 years ago but never acted on it. Dang it!
Would like to get the license plate light with a 7 pin plug and play connector. I don't want to do any wire stripping or soldering.

We're using the wiring that came with each kit.

That's been fixed on the newer model lights
Should've put a link for the license plate light....😊
You can find them here: www.headlightrevolution.com/Backup-Light-Boost-Bar-LED700?quantity=1
Really wish i saw this before buying dd.
Reverse light is all I need
Do a video with the Baja step Lights
Heard!
Won't work if you don't have a 7 pin connector? :'(
Idk why someone needs an addition blake light, like there are already three. Why need a fourth?
Extra safety!
