Coming from a comercial project manager in the states - don’t forget to prioritize your MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) trades! Those are the brains of your building and are often downplayed because they are less visible. Thats usually a costly mistake.
You should proof test all the plumbing before you put the final seal. Water can go anywhere and its very troublesome if its leaking. Once my 4 storage office leaking on the first floor ceiling, so i have to crack open 4 storage to find that leak 😅
this is ace advice - I recently completed a villa in tulum and our GC really screwed up by hiring substandard local mech/elec. every breaker and pretty much every outlet in our 3500 villa needed replacing AFTER plaster 😂
The stone sinks are so ridiculously beautiful. Everything else as well. I also have a love for texture and pattern. When you combine certain materials, it goes from mundane to magic in an instant.
Stefan is a GENIUS!! Your wallet may be muuuuch lighter for meeting him but your home has gone from swanky to actual art, incredible, atmospheric art everywhere. You are extremely lucky to have had him reach out.
Top tip: Never pay full amount up front. No matter what. For things made to order must also visit to check that actual progress reflect installments. Maybe ready by Dec-2024. Need to develop a list of all outstanding items (design / engineer / purchase / install / test) to be completed a/associated completion dates. Then tight follow-up w/corrective actions when needed.
Hello Christian, my humble piece of advice - you should have your own Resident Architect as your in-house Consultant to manage all the Design Firms/Professionals(Archl Firms,ID firms, Landscape firms, Struc firms,), Contractors, Vendors, and Artisan to be able to him/her (your Resident Architect) act as you same time as your adviser/ financial / project management/supervisor Consultant to avoid headaches and stress. A Resident Architect who knows you well, your financial limitations, your aspirations, dreams each of your project, and your dream for the environment and nature. Let him/her handle all the headaches for your current and future projects there in Bali =D Overall, the dream project is superb!
An architect should have ordered samples of that black ceiling material and talked to the manufacturer regarding quality before the product was ordered.
There are a lot of ways the builders and workers nibble away ( steal) money from you during the building process. It’s true about the concrete mix you mentioned, but there are many ways. For example, the builder orders materials from a suppler (wood, cement, rebar, etc) the invoice is marked up for expat price and then split between the builder and supplier. We experienced it many times then fired our contractor. We then self managed the project. My wife is Indonesian and very keen on the tricks of the trade.
This building is an epitome of opulence, it's like an expensive piece of art ,very detailed and built with love. Once completed it will attract visitors from far away and will win awards-mark my words. Great job
So glad i found your vlogs. Quite amazing building designs. Attention to details second to none. I can only dream of living , owning one of your homes. But hey, what is life without dreams!
The thing I learned building a home in Bali, is never pay in full. Always pay a down/partial payment, the moment you fully pay you will realize the work quality and attention given might drop significantly.
You have a budget for this? Phew! Everything is top of the range and a work of art. I look forward to seeing the whole project completed. Big thinking! 🙏🦋🐝
Amazing project, what sanitising system will you be using for the pool? Make sure to have an automatic pH and chlorine controller, to look after the stone.
This was an awesome update 👍 Can't wait for the final result! Also there's a word for the glass situation (unless it was resolved) and it's life-tax. I usually apply that to dentist bills, parking fines and tripod purchases. This is a different level though.
I have some ideas to name the three trees. You can maybe name them Talia, Lisa/Lila and Silvia (those names are formed from the letters of "LOST VILLA") or Palmira Paloma and Palmella :) - also I am very happy that you found great people to work with on your amazing villa that you can definitely call it a home now, thanks to Fatin and Stefan's teams.
Wow Im speechless.. Amazing journey what you achieved! I still remember your early vlogs from the Philippines. :) Best of luck with your dream home and enjoy it, well deserved succes!
Love seeing the progress. Looking forward to being able to join the academy and community one day. Every video helping drive me and keep me inspired for my escape from Canada. I want to help you plan a party for when the Villa is complete.
Sitting in my new off grid home .... it was a wearisome journey but its amazing living here! I love everything about your Villa Christian and your flexibility along the way. It will be stunning! XO, Kelly
Wow Christian. Not only was this video one of your best storytelling wise ( a literal movie ) but this villa is beyond amazing. The amount of detail and ambition im inspired and i applaude you❤ one day ill come visit 😜
I'm into my "settling era" as well and seeing this kind of contents gives me ideas on how i should or what should I get for my future humble abode. I enjoyed shopping and seeing a lot of selection for just 1 item. It's like my eyes are zooming into details 🤣 Will look forward to your future Lost Villa vlogs. 😊
Nah. Even the indonesian consultant manager tend to scam too. I lived in Bali for 8 years and i know how they do their scam operations. What you need is you as the project owner to actively supervise your own project
So glad you included local buildimg materials , bamboo buildings etc... Kinda curious if its shared investment / business or have you done so well with you tube revenues that you paid for it , or like most people a mortgage? Plus how many units will be for rent or sale. Great idea for seasonal community or rentals. How far from any beaches?
Don't forget to include local craftsman for weaved furniture etc... Are you using a business credit card. Then your purchases are insured or the credit company goes after them?
Could have used bamboo strips for the roofing in a yellow whitish or lite green. I would love to build with bamboo one day, it's such awesome material.
Incredible journey. So happy for you and what an inspiration you are. Your inspiration is helping me overcome one of my biggest challenges, my bad health. I am so positive dealing with it rather than being negative. Thank you
Bro GOOD for you! I am watching your journey for so many years and it weirdly makes me happy seeing you accomplishing all of this. Beautiful villa and tasteful design! On the other hand I am super fed up with my boring fcking life and job :D
Its interesting watching this saga unfold. So materialistic and decadent. In some ways fun to burn through the cash. For me I couldn't be bothered with this level of detail. What a time waster . So many things can go wrong. So much maintenance required to upkeep the property. One good earthquake and its all over lol. As I get older I realize keeping things simple and humble works way better. Everyone has to learn this lesson though. All the best but always be prepared for it all to be over.
Hi ...who would you recommend to build a kitchen in Bali...we import from bali to new zealand and want to get our kitchen made it Bali to ship to our home we are renovating and where to look for counter tops ... love watching your videos 😊
Hello you have done a great job. Ive watched a few of your videos and would love to learn more about what you are doing. I have been in Bali for 11 years and have already built a villa. I also just lease 54 ara a bit out of town but not too far, and dont want to go through those same old mistakes again...I would love to meet with you to discuss what is possible for my future project. You aren't joking. I remember being in a beautiful Airbnb before, but the toilet and shower situation was not on par with the design.
Appreciate the feedback 🙏🏼 definitely agree on that. I’ve hired the best teams to bring in the expertise on those areas

Much respect bro...I remember when you were filming on a gopro traveling. You've come a long way...Much respect.
One thing you won't hear people from Bali complaining about is having work to do. They're some of the hardest working people on the planet.
Most of the workers are likely from Java
What recourse are you taking if you don't get your windows? This helps other villa owners to figure out what to do with these situations.
