  • Before I dive into my Elden Ring footage playthrough, I wanted to take the chance to post a video on the new Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom! My playthrough was recorded, but I'm going to be away in July, so now was the only chance to make a video on the topic.
And the dungeons certainly are a hot commodity, especially coming off of Breath of the Wild. So how did they fare? Let's find out!

Check out my Tears of the Kingdom Boss Rankings! - ruclips.net/video/QmlCne1S6bI/видео.html
For any new viewers tuning in, hi, I'm Billy! I'm planning on doing Dungeon/Boss Rankings across the Zelda series from Autumn onwards, so be sure to subscribe to stay up to date, and consider checking out my Soulsborne rankings if your interests intersect! I'm going on a two month break starting in July, so I don't have time to record & upload a ton of Zelda content just yet. But rest assured, content will come! Much love, thanks for the support!

After only doing the wind temple I saw the storm above Faron and decided to check it out since it seemed cool. Then I found the quest and went through the dungeon. I thought the Water Temple could’ve rose from either the Lanaryu Great Spring or the Lanayru Sea. It could still be in the sky, but it shouldn’t have felt like floating islands. Several floating structures leading you to the temple could’ve just been a part of the temple, so that we would have more rooms and puzzles.
Since they wanted the main gimmick to be anti gravity, how about have rooms where you need to turn antigravity on and off. Turning the antigravity on and off creates fun physics puzzles.

    • @BillySYT

It's a problem I think the Wind Temple has too, to an extent, where it's clear the "ascent" is supposed to be part of the experience, but since they introduce mechanics in both temples that you first discover on the climb. (Spoilers below)
You need to turn the "hook" piece 90 degrees so the open gap is facing the left. Then, attach the Construct piece to the bottom and attach a fan to the Construct piece. The weight of the contraption will hold it in place as it slides along the bar, with the gap in the hook piece allowing the rail braces to pass through as it goes.

As for this video, I agree with your top three. I think the Lightning Temple was a perfect temple. The Fire Temple was near perfect and the Wind Temple was definitely a step below those two, but still very good. I didn't dislike the Water Temple as much as everyone else, but it was the clear fourth of the Regional Phenomena temples. The lead up to the Water Temple was awesome though. The Spirit Temple was cool because it gave me the feeling of not even realizing you're in a temple until it's over. But at the same time, I felt a little cheated once I saw "The Spirit Temple" pop up, and then get right into a boss battle. It was a bit of a let down even if it was kind of neat with the realization I mentioned earlier. Hyrule Castle was fine. I also was a little bummed we didn't get a dungeon on the lead up to Ganondorf. But the dungeon structure was 100 times better than BOTW, so I won't complain. Great video Billy!

Well, the final Ending has Mineru move on and pass with Rauru and Sonia, leaving the Zonai completely absent from the World.
So naturally, there's only 2 options for a New Sage:
      A Korok, or A Shiekah.
The Yiga are too aligned with Ganondorf/Ganon to allow a member to be a Sage-unless Kohga himself was the Sage, or they bring back Soogha.
Paya is the Leader of Kakiriko, and the Sages in TotK are all connected to the Leaders of their respective Tribes/Villages.
      - Tulin is Teba's son; Teba being the new Elder of Rito Village
      - Yunobo is Daruk's descendant, and President of YunoboCo.
      - Riju has bern the Gerudo Chief since the beginning of BotW~.
      - Sidon ascends to the throne of the Zora in TotK.
That leaves Zelda, Princess/Queen of Hyrule, and Mineru-last of the Zonai, as the odd few out...
So the only choices remaining are if Paya is awakened as a Sage, or someone from Lurelin Village to awaken as a new Zonai Sage.
(But also to callback to the Shadow Temple? The Well in Kakiriko Village? 😂)

This temple has the potential to combine the best aspects of totks temples into one giant shadow or forest temple, maybe with the return of darknuts as miniboss, much like the final divine beast was a very nice improved divine beast in botws champions ballad. Eventually dungeons will be a lot improved for the next game I think and might even be as good as old ones sooner than later.

I’d rather go through my favorite terminals/puzzles in each dungeon
Wind: I’d say it’s tied between using ultrahand to make a turbine and then uninhabited tulin to bring the wing to spin it, opening a door to the terminal, or the sky diving between lasers to reach a terminal. Can’t really give bonus points to either since the turbine trick is also in the water temple and I believe a few shrines, while the sky diving part is the entire point of one of the large sky islands for a shrine and zonai armor piece. Side note, that chest you couldn’t get, the solution is to grab an icicle and ultrahand it to the chest, then grab the icicle again and fish the chest out, it holds a gemstone
Water: I’m skipping the puzzles to get to the dungeon party because they aren’t a part of the dungeon and partly because I love using the wing shield and tulin’s gust to get everywhere in low gravity. As for my real favorite, probably the one behind a fire wall. The solution is to use sidon’s shield to get through the fire wall, activate a switch to let him in, and then fetch an orb and use the hover stone to push it into the wall. 2nd place is the water mill puzzle that was mentioned here in the vid
Fire: unlike everyone else who built a hover bike and flew to everywhere, I actually did use the minecarts to get places. The only puzzle I skipped was the one with 2 minecarts each with a hook and the broken rail to the 5th floor I believe, anyone have the solution to that? Anyways, of the real puzzle, I’d say it’s actually the navigation of the fire temple. Remove the ability to climb everything or fly everywhere and you’ll find yourself checking the map constantly to figure out where to go, as it all becomes 1 large puzzle. Try it, honestly. Makes the fire temple an actual puzzle and not just mini puzzles everywhere
Lightning: one of the light detectors, forget which one in specific, if the real intended solution is to use ultrahand to suspend a mirror in the air redirecting the light to the detector, then that’s just an ingenious solution. I find the joke terminal on the first floor behind some bricks silly, but just that, it’s kinda obvious where it is if you check the map
Spirit/construct factory: if someone could share the solution to the rail puzzle, then plz do, I’m also interested. Still though, other one with the lava is a brilliant puzzle with a really good solution. First build a traditional car to cross the lava, and then re build it to ride on the lava through a narrow gap sandwiching a wall to keep it from falling. Genius. Then you’re supposed to use those wheels again to open the door to the exit, but it’s a minor puzzle and even so ultrahand + recall works and is arguably a more clever solution.
By rule castle: no puzzles… Best there is I guess is getting the new champion tunic and even so the solution is in Zelda’s well

The Fire temple felt the most like a traditional Zelda dungeon to me (though they could have made the walls unclimbable to really make it a traditional Zelda dungeon). The Wind temple had the best boss fight by a mile. The Water temple felt like a bunch of sequential shrines. Not bad, just not the intricate, interwoven dungeon design that Zelda is known for. The Lightning temple was the best designed. Every puzzle was interesting, and you had to conceptualize the whole dungeon to solve the harder puzzles.

I agree with your placement of the Water Temple but the spinning switch puzzle not having any relevance is literally not true.
Yeah, it takes a bit to figure out, but once you do, it's a mechanic that's hugely helpful against the boss fight due to:
    1. the zero-G making it possible at all times
    2. how quickly the boss moves, making it difficult to chase it down or aim at it the normal way
    and
    3. the ability to make it vulnerable with Splash Fruits attached to arrows
Using a dungeon puzzle to help players better understand a mechanic in preparation for a boss fight is about as Zelda as Zelda gets.

    • @BillySYT
      @BillySYT  Год назад

However the boss fights in Tears of the Kingdom aren't framed around those skills you learn from puzzles in the dungeon, they're framed around the temple's sage's abilities - From my part, I never even thought to use Splash Fruit because I was so caught up in trying to use Sidon's ability in the boss battle.
And it doesn't change my critique that I feel the puzzle itself doesn't lend itself to the theming of the water temple. Whether it teaches you something about the boss is irrelevant to me, since I'm judging the dungeons as completely separate entities from the bosses.

    • @Ah0yKatie
      @Ah0yKatie Год назад

@@BillySYT I'd say judging the boss fights as not part of the dungeon is a little bit of a flawed premise from the outset, as the bosses are in every case the culmination of the experience you get from the dungeon. Nor is it really fair to say "they're framed around the temple sage's abilities" when just about every boss is designed with multiple possible approaches in mind - you wouldn't be handed so many arrows in the Wind Temple if they intended on you solely relying on skydiving with Tulin's gust, for example.
"**I** didn't realize this" doesn't wholly disqualify developer intent, nor does it make the bosses any less of a part of how the dungeons are designed.
I don't care much for the Water Temple either, but I was kind of blown away by how they used that puzzle to lead up to the Mucktorok fight, and I think credit is deserved where credit is due.

While I love that the lightning temple was an ancient pyramid that rose from the ground, it would've made more sense for it to be in the sky instead of the water temple. They could have made it a upside down floating pyramid that you had to traverse from the tip to the base and use magnetism to stick to the floor. The electric enemies could shock you by making the very floor/ceiling an electrical hazard and we would have to balance how much time we spent on the floor or ceiling. Now I've made myself sad because that sounds way cooler. I do like what we did get for the lightning temple, but now I'm torn. Thanks so much for the video! I'm hoping to make my own video too, I'm sure it won't be this good tho hahaha. My ranking (this includes the surrounding quest as well):
    6. Water Temple (I don't even mind Water Temples even Ocarina's, but this was just not very fun... Four locks + mid puzzles + worst boss)
    5. Hyrule Castle (it's the bosses and cutscenes that do it for me, but the dungeon was about as mid as it can get and not nearly as good as BOTW or almost any other Hyrule Castle in the series 😢)
    4. Lightning Temple (I know, how controversial, but as much as I loved the surrounding quest, it was just really long and while I loved the temple, light puzzles aren't really my favorite)
    3. Fire Temple (the minecarts were amazing, the amount of locks and floors was awesome, and the whole quest was intriguing as well as giving us an epic mini-boss right before entering. Found it a bit too cheesable though, could use Tulin to make anything incredibly easy)
    2. Construct Factory/Spirit Temple (I stumbled upon this just exploring the sky, so maybe it's less cool when you don't find it on your own and follow the quest, but I freaked out when I figured out this temple actually existed. The whole puzzle and the fact this hidden dungeon even existed made me so happy, and the factory really plays to TOTK's strengths, and the boss is my second favorite of any of the main dungeons, it was so fun, and the trek to the spirit temple put a grin on my face. This quest also felt the least tedious of the bunch for sure.)
    1. Wind Temple (I love Tulin's sage power so much, one of my favorite additions in TOTK, and Colgera was my favorite boss fight in the game other than the Gleeok's and Ganon Phase 2. The trek was easily the best quest and the whole dungeon aesthetic and puzzles were just right up my alley)

For miners I used travel medallion and fused the parts to a sword to get them there fast

2:08 5v5? It was 1v5 for me cause I don't use the sages
My ranking is probably the same, the only thing that annoys me with the fire temple is that yunobo blocks your vision every single fucking time you ride a minecart, I was purposely shooting him into the distance so I can fucking see if there was any switches coming (I was playing handheld too)

Fire temple is my favourite, volcanic theme, minecarts, tons of exploration. It puts it in the number 1 spot. The boss fight was very gimmicky too

I usually love fire themed areas in games, but they messed up here. Really didn’t enjoy it.

@@Overdrive-_- I enjoyed Divine Beast Vah Rudania more as a dungeon than the Fire Temple.

Lightning temple was def the best. As for the “approach” part of getting to each dungeon nothing beats the wind temple for me. Personally I would’ve rated Fire a little lower (found it to be fairly boring even though the aesthetic brought back memories of OoT’s fire temple.
