That's genuinely so cute how much Kyoya's voice actor loves the character and the series it's really sweet he still frequently interacts with the fan base and returns to the character for events
"Sometimes it's okay for a series to die out." Man, it's a painful truth, but it's something I think we all need to remember. And really, as long as fans can keep the memory of a franchise like Siren alive and find ways like, say, this video to introduce it to new people who were unaware of it before? It's about the best you can ask for for any franchise.
Omg yes!!!! I am finally romming siren 2 on my new s23 and play with my blue Tooth controller and can play in hd waited years to play blood curse finally beat it and onto siren 2!!!!! Growing up I loved the siren series in my thirties and still young I'm happy to have siren 2 finally I always found the buzzing sound scary and also the ost in the siren series are so fantastic I even emulate clock tower 3and have the physical copy clock tower 3 and the siren series I still love graphics are great in both games and playing in hd is a plus I'm really enjoying siren 2!!!!!!! Finally I like well love the buzzing sound when near an enemy in siren 2!!!!!!
You know, I can appreciate the opinion that they feel they might not have captured the vibe properly with Silent Hill because it was set in america and the team was japanese, but at the same time, I unironically love seeing american settings through the lens of artists on the other side of the world that are working off of what they believe the place I live is like through media. There's just a lot of charm to it.
This 100%. Early japanese survival horror had it's charm because it was the west through the lens of japanese people who liked western media and knew the west through said media. SH happens in a western background but japanese concepts like kegare are present all over it.
Exactly, I couldn't have said it better myself, I completely agree. The same goes for other genres too, I love Crazy Taxi because its such a fun and interesting lens of america, as well as things like resident evil for the same reason.
Walking around Silent Hill 1 and just looking at the signs and fake stores they created is such a fun experience, and super far ahead of its time. A lot of people have shit on SH1 for the fog over the years but what they did within that ten inch view radius was nothing short of incredible.
Oh man. Same. Plus I think they nailed the look. Silent hill is a small town. But not small. It’s a big tourist town so it makes sense for it to be as big as it is. We have American developers that think a small town is one street with a diner and a hospital and the. Say 50-100,000 people live there
This is why I LOVE RED DEAD REVOLVER SO FUCKING MUCH. It's just the most ridiculous spaghetti western story of revenge slapped with a soundtrack that is a collage of all the best music from western cowboy movies.
DAMN what an impressively comprehensive vid on such a great survival horror series!! absolutely worth the wait and thank you so much for asking me to join you in the VR chat adventures 🥰
Okay so I have a theory about Shiro’s self sacrifice. I think he both idolises his brother and is jealous of his brother. He becomes a doctor just to show off how accomplished he is, purely for Kei. He wants Kei to notice him, but he’s also a psychopath. I think in some ways Shiro wishes he could BE his brother. And when he sees the opportunity to do EXACTLY what Kei would do,while even wearing his clothes, he jumps on it, knowing he’s doomed anyway, just to have a taste of how it felt to be Kei. I also maybe think the reason Shiro idolises Kei is because Shiro sees him as a better version of himself. Shiro sees Kei as a version of how he could have been if it wasn’t for his psychopathy. That’s why he loves, hates, idolises, covets and finally kills Kei.
To be more precise, he's an example of a malignant narcissist. Wanting to become his brother so badly that he kills in order to better achieve that goal.
To be more precise, he's an example of a malignant narcissist. Wanting to become his brother so badly that he kills in order to better achieve that goal.
I think for horror games it makes a lot of sense I know games like iron lung and PT where some people found the gameplay awkward or overly convoluted they both were super popular in let plays
What I loved about the PS Home space, when it launched originally, it was VERY popular, the waiting room would typically have 50 people waiting in there, and after a few min, some J-Pop music would play. Every time this happened, all 50 people waiting in this room would just start to dance! But this wasn't automatic, you had to manually do this... Meaning all 50 strangers from all over the world just spontaneously danced in the Siren Blood Curse room... And people said Home was boring!
Anyone else almost teared up at the OG crew reliving their SIREN days? It’s always so heart-warming to see a team so into projects and working together years later. I never heard of this series. But I’m so glad you covered it!
Another interesting topic is the siren itself. As far as I know, the siren represents fear because, for many people, the sound of the siren precedes the bombing of cities in the WWII. There was even people who cries in fear with the sound of a siren or a ringing of a alarm clock.
Keiichirō Toyama also making the Gravity Rush series is so interesting and kind of makes sense to me. It's one of my favorite games, and while it's not horror it has the theme of disempowerment (including in the gameplay mechanics, kinda) which is often found in the best horror.
As expected , this was a VERY well researched and put together video, and a delight to watch. I also really liked the art and animations in this one, added a lot of charm to the video. Keep up the fantastic work Tango! 👏 Sincerely, one of those 3 Siren fans I guess.
What a banger of a video Tango, its pretty rare that I sit through a video this long without taking any breaks but I sure did with this one. Also giant shout out to Cig for making some amazing arts and animations, the one where the kid peaces out really got me good. I still havent played any of the Siren games because I know that I must start with the first game and I cant allow myself to use a walkthrough, I'm a stubborn dude yeah. But your love for the series is pretty contagious and with all the info I already have I think I'll give it a go at some point. Anyways, thank you for your hard work, I know really well how time and effort consuming it is.
I'm Japanese, and I remember the commercial for Siren 1 being one of the scariest moherfucking things I've ever seen in my life, even now. I love your passion, your drive, and your viewpoints on horror games❤❤ Definitely subbing and watching more, ESPECIALLY because you cover horror games that are horribly slept on! Can't wait to watch more!!!
I'm not one to comment or like much usually, but I know how hard youtube and the algorithm are on this type of long content and the effort it must have taken, so trying to help a bit here. You're doing great, keep it up!
7:00 i agreed so emphatically with the "ito-esque" assessment that i nodded my head in real life, like when you nod during a phonecall even though the other person can't see you. the bestie was not only so true, the bestie was TOO true
My problem with the first game's difficulty isn't the difficulty itself, it's the time wasting parts of trial and error that really get at me. I can eventually get through a Dark Souls area with different attempts and methods. Siren asks for very specific methods to get through that require exact steps sometimes that are easy to mess up then become repetitive. That repetition wastes time, and I hate wasting time. So of course, don't mess up, but it wouldn't be so bad if I was so limited in options (especially that damn house with Harumi)
All I could think about was the escort missions in Morrowind where you had a 25% chance for the person yr escorting to just glitch straight through the map, making the quest unable to be completed 😩 so many reloads
It's a shockingly strong trilogy all in all. I would be interested in a remake or new entry, but I understand the hesitation to do that. Excellent work.
It’s interesting how the original creator of Silent Hill wanted his next project to be more traditionally Japanese, since now it seems like we’re about to come full circle with Silent Hill f. I doubt it will make any references or pay homage to Siren; but given how the head writer for the game is Ryukishi07, who has his own experience with cursed towns and time loops from his When They Cry series (namely Higurashi), this might be the closest we’ll get to a spiritual successor for the franchise. Please don’t f*** this one up, Konami!
IDK why people think Ashley was a bad escort character in RE4. Almost every area, you can just have her hide in a dumpster while you run around and kill everything before coming back to get her.
I’m guessing it might’ve also had to do with how shrill Ashley’s voice could be while crying for help. I do like Carolyn Lawrence as a VA, but I can see why the bratty tone she gave Ashley might’ve gotten on people’s nerves. I also consider her voice and personality in the remake a massive improvement.
@@Cure_HanaAgreed. Especially since Ashley in the original looked, acted, and sounded pretty young. Not sure what her age was supposed to be, but I couldn’t see her as any older than a high schooler. Which added a level of ick to some things like Luis’s comment about her chest or how the game set her up as a kind of love interest for Leon (though thankfully it just played out as her crushing on him and him not reciprocating, which is fine). Ashley in the remake comes off more as a full-grown woman, college-age at the youngest. Definitely welcome there.
9:43 Apparently the cop isn't a shibito when you have to escape him in the first level. He's just very drunk. He becomes a shibito after you run him over.
That’s what I thought. The Kajiro family is pretty powerful and sinister and the Siren Maniacs book goes into more detail about that. The cop was definitely drunk but was likely also instructed to kill outsiders who could interfere with the ritual. After all, Akira’s cousin got locked away in the Miyata clinic for interfering with the 1976 ritual.
I’ve never played siren, but this probably my favorite video you’ve made to date. Like the level of excitement and enjoyment you show in this video is really refreshing.
Finally! I actually played Blood Curse on PS3, but deemed it barely playable in terms of performance. To watch someone else go through the torment for me is such a blessing. I mean, I've been looking for a good retrospective on the series for ages - and here we go! And it's you! I can't think of a better candidate. Really unique games, fun to watch. Not necessarily play tho.
Oh I’m so glad I’m not alone in this suffering / it was my first experience with the series and unfortunately my last, because it left me with such pain
EuroThug4000 recently put out her own analyses on Siren and Forbidden Siren 2, which are both phenomenal and id highly recommend them - but specifically the Forbidden Siren 2 one goes so above and beyond the scope of what i could have imagined - yall NEED to see that video
You know, I remember watching a guy on here named Fidchell do a walkthrough of this game a few years ago. He seemed to know what he was doing and I had just given up on ever finishing it myself so his videos really came in clutch for me to satisfy my curiosity.
But DAMN, was I wrong for dismissing Siren just because of the framedrops. In my defense, I went in blind, not knowing (at all) what I was dealing with. So, I got really irritated on principle with an exclusive that didn't even run properly. I thought it was just another, admittedly, scary stealth horror game with a janky gimmick that didn't do it any favors, and came to the wrong conclusions. If only I played more than one episode, I would've turned the blind eye to these trifles.
On Escort Missions, outside of just plain bad escort mission designs, I think the main gripe players have with escrot missions is more relates to the fact that they have to slow down the pace that they usually have to play and well actually play as though there is someone who you need to take care off. So like one of the main gripes is how in certain escort missions the walking speed of the NPC is glacial compared to the players and as players you immediately feel that slowing down, and most of the time the player is just zipping from point A to point B for the next thing but now they have to actually walk at the same pace as the NPC on a path that they most likely have traversed at 3x the speed so there's not much to do other than wait for the NPC. Same goes with combat, you need to be more methodical in the fights you enter because you just can't unga bunga your way through it. Now I don't think that this is inherently bad so to speak but the problem is if you didn't design around this limitation and still keep player engagement through out the escort mission is the problem because then you would have a form of break in your expected pace where the player is least engaged. And if you don't account for this then the escort mission become tedium. The way that some devs have designed around this tedium is through stuff like scripted encounters or like inserting some interesting exposition dumps during these sections but however you do it, you still need to keep player engagement.
The absolute gasp I let out when I saw this on my inbox, oh my god! I am so happy to see you cover these games and to not only go into all the additional material too is filling me with excitement to watch this.
I think what's annoying about Siren's difficulty for some people (at least it is for me) is the fact that it is so terrifying and Stressful to play at the same time. It makes it hard to try again and again when it is getting on your nerves all the time. I love the game but I haven't been able to finish it yet because of that.
I wouldn't say that Siren's gameplay is unfair so much as uninituitive at times. Some of the puzzles have a serious case of moon logic going on. And I get that Toyama wanted people to access Internet forums and share ideas, but that assumes that people would do that, nevermind those that wanted a blind run without assistance. Also Tango, your commentary is giving me some serious whiplash xD One second: 'The game isn't that hard. Stop complaining!' The next: 'The game's obscure design didn't do it any favours...'
You talked with so much passion for this game i hope this video makes people reconsider how they feel about the game cause it should get the praise bloodborn gets
I'm super excited to see this!! When I was younger I remember becoming obsessed with the idea of these horror games I had no access to and doing long Wikipedia rabbit hole dives reading about them, but Siren is the one series I remember reading about that I've never seen much of since. I was always so interested by the concept! Thrilled to be able to learn more about what the games really feel like as play experiences.
Ah, that intro dude... Blood curse was released in my first years in Japan, and playing that while living in the rural areas of Okayama just hits you very, VERY differently 😵 Thank you for revisiting these gems
that melissa news clip cracked me up😭😭 the detail in this franchise is soooo amazing. thank you for making this video i’ve never heard of it!!! but wow i think it has become a new favorite
YYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSS Tango you can’t possibly know I’ve been having the worst week ever and this is such a gift 😭 I’m so incredibly excited to settle in to watch this today and relax. Thank you for all your hard work, passion, and dedication!
I just want to put this out there for those that don't really know the appeal for the Soulsborne genre. When Dark Souls first came out, people loved it to the point where it is memed on to this day. ("Skill issue." "Dark Souls of [blank]," "*points at a turtle* "is that a dog?") However, when Dark Souls 2 came out, it was detested, and still to this day, alot of people dislike it. That is due to the game being developed as, "people wanted impossibly difficult games! So let's take it up a notch." However, the developers missed the core reason why people loved Dark Souls. It was due to the feeling of accomplishment of defeating a boss or powerful enemy. Therefore, showing the player growth in skill and strength to best a tough opponent. So future games such as Demons Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring were balanced out to make it, as you said, difficult but fair. Rather than difficult for the sake of being difficult. Each game presents slightly different mechanics while sticking to the core game play. And with it, players set different challenges or try different things with it. Creating a challenge for themselves. And once online was integrated into their game play, it allowed basically everyone in in the 4 gaming archetypes (achievers, explorers, socializers, killers) to have something they can latch onto. Especially in Elden Ring where it's Open World. I can sort of see why Siren was shoved aside, even though they did this 20 years ago. It was presented at a time that wasnt ready for it. Even though Soulsborne and Siren both have similar aspects like exploring and making do with what you have and still able to defend yourself. I feel that Siren being a survival horror limits it to what that genre can. While Dark Souls was able to do more with it being action roleplay heavy. Maybe the jump in timelines is what made it off putting for some. Because it can jolt you out of the immersion. I'm not saying Siren is bad. Not at all! I have been waiting for TangoMushi to do a video on Siren because I love her content and I have been curious on the game. If anything, I feel it just follows the unfortunate path of, "too ahead of its time for people to understand." If it were a game released today, it would be widely loved and dissected for the story and characters in it. More so than it is now. Even with new players getting into it, getting help is so much easier now with online walkthroughs, let's plays, and even Reddit forums.
I'd like to point out, that when playing souls likes one almost always knows WHY they fucked up. Often your looking at a death screen while actively muttering to yourself, "Gotta fuckin dodge, shoulda fuckin dodged" or some such. If it isn't that simple, then you are learning his move set or finding a item to solve your problesm... or you can always fall back to, "Alright, fuck this boss, I'll grind a few levels.". You are given direct, tangible ways to solve a problem, lessons to learn, even if it feels impossible at first, and then you learn them lessons and beat that problem's ass like it's your job, and it feels great. Darksouls doesn't expect you to solve a moon logic puzzle on a time limit, it isn't full of combat balanced with a shrug and the phrase, 'they can avoid it anyway'. It is hard, but it is fair. Siren is a horror game, it is 0% fucking fair, it is just hard, and frustrating, and wastes a bunch of your time as a punishment for thinking it might be more fun to play a game yourself than look up the right answers online. It is a wonderful concept and story broadly speaking, but actual torture to play threw blind if you are anything but a master of janky PS SH games.
No. "Difficult" in itself isn’t a genre and 99% percent of your arguments for the popularity of FromSoftware titles applies to literally every videogame. They stand out because of fantastic presentation, creative character designs, storytelling, tight gameplay etc… or they did once. With the record breaking sales of Elden Ring the genre has become officially mainstream and the difficulty is more of a marketing stunt by now. The genre has peaked a while back and has become stale and kind of… boring.
@@akimbofresh8109 Elden Ring is probably the last hail mary of the fornula, essentialy what CoD4 was to the industry back in the day. I'd still say Souls Formula peaked with BloodBorne or Dark Souls 3, not that ER is a bad game, I just feel like the bosses, level design and scenarios are less memorable than Dark Souls 1~3 or BB.
impressive massive work that i enjoyed in its entirety. thank you so much for this great mpiece. ps it really looks like you and eurothug4000 had so much fun during that vr experience and one of my favourite parts (big fan of you both)
Okay i finally finished the video!! Three hours?? You spoil us! I first discovered siren about four years ago. I've never played it (the challenge is definitely not for me, but i might get around to it if i save scum or something), but i fell in love with the story. It's so haunting! I ate up so many analysis videos on it, but yours takes the cake. Diving into not only the movie, but the fan projects, playstation home, and its legacy? This is stuff i just never would have known unless it had been in one of these videos. I appreciate your dedication to going through literally everything siren related! Your love and passion for the game came through immensly. Seeing the actors celebrate the game warmed my heart. I don't speak Japanese, but I'll definitely check out Kyoya's actor's channel! I love that this game is so loved, especially when it didn't get that same attention in the U.S. This video was absolutely amazing and you've got me on my siren fixation again, so thank you for that. I'll be rewatching this video in the background probably several times over the following weeks; you're such a good story teller!
I love the Siren franchise, and thought I knew quite a bit about it but this video introduced me to sooo many cool things I've never heard about before! I think my favorite piece of new information was that the actors still seem to love and even play Siren years later, that made so happy to see! Amazing work!
I've played horror games since I was a kid, but Siren was the only one I had to return the next day because I was so scared. As an adult, I played & finished Siren Blood Curse but man it made my anxiety go nuts😅 Thank you for this video, it makes me wanna give Siren 1 another shot Wish me luck 🖖
awesome video on the series. I got introduced to the series via Forbidden Siren 2 back in 2008, and it was the scariest game I had ever played back then. Just the eerie moaning in the menu screen freaked me out haha.
Siren is one my favorite niche horror games next to Rule of Rose and, very similarly to RoR, every few years a new video essay comes out and it reignites my love all over again. ❤️ Haven’t even started this video yet but stoked to watch.
“Datatsushi got a fat ass, bro” Truer words have never been spoken, tango. Excellent work on this exhaustive deep dive! Congrats on getting this one in the can, it must feel amazing.
Just gotta say, I could watch a 3 hour video of you dissecting each of these games individually. This project was super worth the wait and the passion you poured into this is evident in every segment man. Another fantastic video.
THANK YOU so much for mentioning the Siren Blood Curse space in PSHome. I spent so much time listening to the Blood Curse trailer playing in the background outside or going into the hospital to hear the music. It was such a a lovely, atmospheric space to hang out in with friends.
Glad other people remember. My favorite little unknown space. Blood curse was the reason I bought a ps3 and was worth it. It’s sad that Sony doesn’t see value in Japan studios niche artistic games. They weren’t system sellers but gave variety.
Love videos like these cause even if I'm not interested in playing some of these games the stories are really good! Doesn't compare to actually playing and experiencing them but still, appreciated!
I am thankful for creators like you who go out of their way to play these games and explain the story and the characters etc because i dont own a console but enjoy hearing about their lore though
That’s me! lol I’m not a gamer but I love watching in-depth videos on game lore, world building and game development. I love the stories despite my hesitancy to play them.
I think you did an awesome job and as a giant baby who hates both stealth and old school controls (lived through it once, that was enough), I don't know that I'll try to get this going. That said, I find it endlessly fascinating as material for people as smart and funny as you to go through, so thank you again!
Looking forward to watching this. I remember playing a demo of Siren and it absolutely terrifying me. There was something about the ultra-realistic faces that REALLY unsettled me, but I couldn't quite tell you why.
god it's really good to see something like this. I played some of siren blood curse and got pretty far before getting stuck on a level and not being able to get through it, but the concept and aesthetic (especially all the level transition cards that showed the in-game time) kept me thinking about it. after finding out there was another one on PS2, i tried that out and was Immediately bounced off by the extreme difficulty (made even MORE difficult because of me being notoriously bad at stealth games specifically), despite really liking everything else about it and really wanting to experience it. so being able to watch something that talks about these games in a pretty comprehensive manner is something ive been wanting a lot.
My negative response to escort missions is due to my childhood playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, where prior to the 3ds games the escorts were not only weak, but practically suicidal :/
Fantastic video, Mushi. I only discovered your channel recently but you're quickly becoming one of my favourite reviewers. I also really appreciate that you know Japanese and are able to dig deeper into each game's linguistic nuances, production history and any obscure related media. Not many game reviewers offer that level of insight. Look forward to the next one!
The Ashley section of this vid was so real, I've loved re4 since I was reallyyy young and even then when I had less patience- I've never thought Ashely annoying once, I was actually surprised the first time I looked up people's opinions on the game and finding out that 'thinking Ashley was annoying' was a common complaint! Shes always been a cute and fun companion character to me 😊
I've eaten up like every horror analysis video out there, so I'm always extremely thrilled when you upload. It feels like a fresh take, even though there are some elements that I see other people point out too. I felt that way about your haunting ground video too (which I was so excited to watch!! I've eaten up like everything there is about haunting ground especially). I haven't finished the video yet, just started, but I saw the time stamp and I'm very very excited!! Thank you for posting!!
OKAY I'm still getting through the video (in between shifts lol) and the running bit "siren fans. All three of us" just gets me every time, I just had to mention that before I forgor lol
Just going through your channel now, after finishing this Siren video. I love your content and YOU so much now❤ Not many people can do such good research for a video, and I'm captivated by your storytelling in all these videos!
So happy to see people talking about Siren lately, it's such a great horror game series and I love the 'Japanese-ness' of it. I love these games so damn much and I will never forget being younger and seeing videos of Blood Curse; great video!
the VR bit is so funny and the entire video is incredibly interesting and well-made, thank you for sharing your in-depth research and insight with us!!☺️
I have fond memories of me and my friends trying to figure out the first Siren game because we were on a survival horror phase and wanted to play mostly that kind of game. I'm not sure how we ended up getting Siren but we did and were furious the whole night trying to get through the sniper level. Years later after getting a PS3 we all ended up playing Siren Blood Curse but I was the only one to go back to the first two to complete them. It wouldn't have been possible without a FAQ obviously so whoever did the guide for that game, you have my thanks. Love your videos!
YESSSSS I'm so glad this series is getting more attention! The first game's plot is genuinely one of the best examples of Cosmic Horror I can think of, inspiring more and more dread in the player the more you understand what's happening in Hanuda village.
Loved this video. Its nice to hear your voice and it's unfortunate that I didn't know about all the extra stuff that came out around Siren. Thanks for the video. Can't wait for the next one. Man I miss playstation home.
I've been thinking a lot abt SIREN since I watched the movie by accident last year and found out it was a full game franchise from some other video-essays on here... I really like your videos and this one is the greatest thing 💯💯 Plus: that little drawing of your cartoon version in the movie theater is ** PERFECTION 😅
Every time I see one of your big videos it makes me really happy, I don't now why 🤩. You are just so chill to listen to while doing anything, much appreciation for your work!!
I cant remember the last time I was this sad to check my sub box and find a long video right before bed. 😂 Ah well, I will enjoy my Siren deep dive with my morning coffee I'm sure!
I was obsessed with this series for ages, it inspired so much of my creativity as an adult and for a while there, it faded due to people never talking about it and never being able to find things about it. This video gives me the excuse to full swing back into my hyper fixation and never let go!
Wait so siren blood curse was made basically more to be more appealing to western audiences they didn't even release the game with physical release in the US? 😂
As it was briefly mentioned in the video, it was the time when it seemed like episodic content was going to be the next big step in gaming, very much how in the 90s FMV games were touted real hard as “the natural evolution of video games” before 3D games blew them out of the water. Though it’s a bit strange that they didn’t bother to release a physical copy in the US after the last episode dropped. Talk about holding a Grudge.😏
@Zeburaman2005 during the ps3 physical media was still a lot more popular as far as I remember these consoles didn't have much storage on them to begin with lol
Oh shit, it's out! Woo! I've loved all your deep dives and I'm sure this one is going to be be just as awesome. Also, youtube didn't think it was worth informing me this was out, so full notifications are on!
I'm actually a Ukrainian person living in America and I actually agree with a lot of what you said about how the west acts to slow burn story telling and how J-horror and most games like the siren series are viewed here in America. Its sadly only a recent trend to see media from other countries like Japan cuz to most people American media is exactly how you described especially horror media where they focus on just jump scares and scaring you for a moment and not make you reflect on the horror. The only movie that genuinely made me afraid in America was The Shining. But with J-horror it stuck with me a whole lot longer. I watched the og Japanese Ring thinking I was brave enough when my dad would scare me with it by saying it was the scariest movie he's ever seen. My dad doesn't usually get scared so I thought he was just messing with me. I was so wrong and watching that movie genuinely made me so scared I legit had nightmares about the girl in the TV and legit couldn't leave a tv on at night thinking she'd show up. Good horror to me is something that genuinely scares you long after you are done watching or playing
This was such an amazing and in-depth video, the amount of time and love that was put into it is incredible. I thought it was so endearing to see this game still celebrated in Japan, I love this series so much.
Thank you for standing up for the adaptation! It’s nice to hear a positive perspective on Blood Curse. My only problem with Blood Curse has to do with a graphical issue that I think is a me problem. The way the light flare shines in the corner mixed with the grainy filter, the close camera, and having sight jack on screen simultaneously gives me a slight dizzy, nauseas feeling when playing it. It’s similar to the feeling I got trying to play the Evil Within, which gave me strong motion sickness. It’s one of the very few games that have done this and I wish I could tolerate it better. I’ve always loved the Amana twist and I think the Bella chapel scene is very well done. But I’ve had to experience the game through play throughs online since I can’t tolerate playing it. I’d be interested if any other Siren fans have had this experience when trying to play Blood Curse.
i gotta point out that i find the parts of this video where we're just shown drawings to be very charming - it's a good and cute artstyle and a nice way of telling stories and summarizing stuff, like with the siren 2 movie
Almost 3 hours, damn lady. That's some work. Siren is definitely worth covering, pretty unique and weird. Another set of games you might be interested in is echo night (from software) and obscure (hydravision).
I remember fondly the hunt for all the files in order to understand the full story and unlocking the one remaining cutscene. I remember the game being very frustrating at times, but super interesting. It just kept me playing from curiosity for the lore.
Time for a three hour video on a series I've never heard, and to enjoy every minute of it let's goooo
Rtgame?!?
I’m so lost
RTGame is like Carmen Sandiago in the sense you never know where he'll show up next
@@WyFy-Meltdown I have a feeling that my notifications are gonna be ruined by my comment
RT "DRIFT KING" GAME?????????????
I'd rather have a remaster and/or port of these games for modern consoles.
This is what should have happened to the Silent Hill series instead of it's legacy being made a parody of itself
This game need remake!!! Make a petition
I'm sad thinking about the legacy of kain ser

The reason he become a doctor is explained in the manga lol
To be more precise, he's an example of a malignant narcissist. Wanting to become his brother so badly that he kills in order to better achieve that goal.

fascinating that the director considers let's plays a vital component to enjoying/appreciating the game, that's cool
I think for horror games it makes a lot of sense I know games like iron lung and PT where some people found the gameplay awkward or overly convoluted they both were super popular in let plays
The actors still being so proud and excited about their roles from 20 years ago. Hit me in my heart idk why. I cry.
No way for a necromancer to behave 😂
The time loop horror anime Summertime Rendering is a love letter to the Siren franchise, with numerous references to the games.
I've heard summertime rendering is good, worth watching?
Sincerely,
one of those 3 Siren fans I guess.
Yah same, screams cinnamon roll Junji ❤
A three hour Tangomushi video. We eatin' good tonight folks!
"I dont like escort missions, or understand abstract story telling!"
tango: Skill issue.
Based 🤣
All I could think about was the escort missions in Morrowind where you had a 25% chance for the person yr escorting to just glitch straight through the map, making the quest unable to be completed 😩 so many reloads
"Put some respect on my girl Ashley" THANK YOU
It's a shockingly strong trilogy all in all.
And she generally makes an effort to avoid danger when she can. She only starts ducking and screaming “Leon!” when she doesn’t have other options.
I think they have her confused with the girl in ICO; THAT was an escort trauma
@@animeotaku307 iirc she's always been about 20.
Haha same...loved the story and the setting and the tone...but the gameplay, not so much.
Yeah, it's how much it changes the pace of the game, not necessarily there being an escort mission at all.
And it's so frustrating when you're trying to walk around the ncp just blocks your way or stays hiding when trying to move on, like MOVE please!! 😂😂
As someone who's loved this series since forever, your choice of intro was practically perfect. I can't wait to eat this video essay up!!
Also Tango, your commentary is giving me some serious whiplash xD
One second: 'The game isn't that hard. Stop complaining!'
The next: 'The game's obscure design didn't do it any favours...'
Kyoya actor being a massive siren warms my heart 💜
Ah, that intro dude...
Blood curse was released in my first years in Japan, and playing that while living in the rural areas of Okayama just hits you very, VERY differently 😵

I choose to believe that "Sam Monroe" is a pun on "Salmon roe"
I just want to put this out there for those that don't really know the appeal for the Soulsborne genre.
When Dark Souls first came out, people loved it to the point where it is memed on to this day. ("Skill issue." "Dark Souls of [blank]," "*points at a turtle* "is that a dog?")
However, when Dark Souls 2 came out, it was detested, and still to this day, alot of people dislike it.

I’m so happy you and eurothug4000 collaborated! The VR section was so funny. Watching you two geek out was so cute LOL
As an adult, I played & finished Siren Blood Curse but man it made my anxiety go nuts😅
Thank you for this video, it makes me wanna give Siren 1 another shot
Wish me luck 🖖
Omg what is this quality!?
There's animations!?!?
AND A EUROTHUG COLLAB?!?!?!?
awesome video on the series. I got introduced to the series via Forbidden Siren 2 back in 2008, and it was the scariest game I had ever played back then. Just the eerie moaning in the menu screen freaked me out haha.
Yeah the music and sound design in both games are scary as hell
Siren is one my favorite niche horror games next to Rule of Rose and, very similarly to RoR, every few years a new video essay comes out and it reignites my love all over again. ❤️ Haven’t even started this video yet but stoked to watch.
“Datatsushi got a fat ass, bro”
Truer words have never been spoken, tango.
3 hr video? This is a lot of work you have put into this, definitely deserves more traction
So thankful people like you and Eurothug are out there doing the absolute most for survival horror history
Thank you for making this video, I'm glad more people can learn of the Siren series!
Me and my roommates are recent and big fans of your works so seeing this come out so soon is great
god it's really good to see something like this.
My negative response to escort missions is due to my childhood playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, where prior to the 3ds games the escorts were not only weak, but practically suicidal :/
such a great and amazingly comprehensive vid, also I have to say i laughed so much at the VRchat part, it was really cool to see eurothug here
Fantastic video, Mushi.
You gave so much justice spreading word about Siren. Gosh.
So happy to see people talking about Siren lately, it's such a great horror game series and I love the 'Japanese-ness' of it. I love these games so damn much and I will never forget being younger and seeing videos of Blood Curse; great video!
Oh this is a very in-depth video! I'm not really familiar with Siren but I'm looking forward to learning more.
the VR bit is so funny and the entire video is incredibly interesting and well-made, thank you for sharing your in-depth research and insight with us!!☺️
A massive undertaking. Good job on getting this one out!
YESSSSS
I'm so glad this series is getting more attention!
Man I love your videos I personally never played those games growing up but I'm really enjoying watching your breakdowns on them
You always have the best video essays on these types of games. Absolutely fantastic.
Also, random Final Fantasy 14 music in the Legacy section, lol
I thought it was so endearing to see this game still celebrated in Japan, I love this series so much.
tango! i love putting your videos up while i do work; your voice/presence is so comforting~
Been slowly working thru this while at work. This was fantastic and so well done! Thank you for making it 😁
That chant at the beggining still sends chills down my spine
Almost three hours' worth of content? What a treat! Great to have ya back, Tango 💜
I am not a good player of survival horror but MAN I love these Siren videos on RUclips!! You did fantastic! I love it
Welcome back, good to see your work again =)
i gotta point out that i find the parts of this video where we're just shown drawings to be very charming - it's a good and cute artstyle and a nice way of telling stories and summarizing stuff, like with the siren 2 movie
Almost 3 hours, damn lady. That's some work. Siren is definitely worth covering, pretty unique and weird. Another set of games you might be interested in is echo night (from software) and obscure (hydravision).
Once again, Tango makes a banger.
Came in with no knowledge about the Siren series, what a fantastic story and presentation it had for its time.
Your videos are amazing, and I'm so happy that you are covering Siren!!!
I remember fondly the hunt for all the files in order to understand the full story and unlocking the one remaining cutscene.
I remember the game being very frustrating at times, but super interesting. It just kept me playing from curiosity for the lore.
