What I don't understand is why the electric power steering gives worse feeling than the hydraulic/mechanical pump power steering systems. A pump is a pump right?
@@jomaha9227 Electric power steering simulates the amount of effort for the steering via load sensors this results is a very "muted" feel of the road surface. The programing software of the steering helps, but unless you're driving a 911, the road feel just isn't as good. But it's lighter than hydraulic systems and because there's no parasitic drag on the engine, you also get slightly better fuel economy.
@@jomaha9227 It depends on a lot of things. First is the type of mechanism they use. Good EPS systems have the assist motor attached to the rack (like Porsche). Some system have the assist box in the middle of the steering shaft, usually for packaging, which adds moving parts and reduces feel. Then there's the amount of boost the steering gets. Some cars over-assist to make the car easier to steer. It's not easy to tune an assist system to amplify the driver's input enough to move the wheels without overdoing it.
If the windshield washer light is on, and the reservoir is full, its the sensor. If you're using the RainX orange, it can cause some residue or building up on the sensor causing the fault. I usually use white vinegar, 50/50 with the washer fluid to clean it up, and get the light to go away.

damn Z...so many info errors about this car. The steering is electronically assisted. There is a traditional rack and pinion attached directly to the wheel. You can't feel what the tires are doing because the owner has some below average tires on it and his bushings are probably shot to shit. Looking at those stock engine mounts, i can only assume the bushings for the suspension are stock too. This is a tuner car just like anything else, mods need to be performed to bring some life out of it. Also the ESP on this car is a joke. I never drove with it on as it is horribly intrusive with braking and aggressive on-throttle inputs through corners. This car needs 255 squared at the very least to feel good through the corners, those stock 225 tires are a joke. Zack: "...Subarus have reliability problems..." Me: makes a fresh bag of popcorn. :D Relative to some other recently released vehicles, the STI's wing seems sedate and conservative in design. In the more muted colors, the STI's wing is less in your face. Thanks to the owner for bringing out this fun hatch -- love the blue. Yep, PA state inspections are a thing. If you drive over 5k miles / year, there is an emissions test. Additionally, tires, brakes and lighting (typical safety stuff) are checked. With the state of roads in PA (condition and age), it is a good thing that all [legally] driven cars are given an annual review. We can't afford to have junkers driving around and breaking down on two lane roads or antiquated four lane highways.
Everyone talking about the weight, the curb weight was stated in the comments as 3720 lbs. Add a tank of gas and 2 adult men. It's actual weight in the video would be more than 4000 lbs

Actually my dream car. Don't ask me why, but I'd take one of these over pretty much any other sports car or even super car. 911 Turbo? R8 V10? R35 GTR? Z06 C7? No thank you. I'll have the Mk5 R32.
Looking at these cars right now but the gti version. Got decent trade in value on my current daily and was surprised how reasonable this generation is. It would be quite an upgrade for sure.
I had one, mint conditions, bought it with 26k miles, sold it with 28k. It's much more a sense of occasion than this MK5 and much rarer too, engine sound is great and the shape is just gorgeous. BUT, I had some issue with the Haldex ECU that are not available anymore from VW so you either source one used or you get one reconditioned by VW at a staggering cost. If you don't drive fairly regularly fuel pumps tends to go and even if the engine is quite bullet proof it may have some quirks sooner or later. Overall a good car but maintenance costs, if something fail, can be a little scary or just not as straight forward as you may think.

I might get some hate as this is a VW video, but I’m looking for a car and after seen that it got mentioned a lot in the video, I’m in the possibility of purchasing a nice gray WRX STI hatchback, but the idea of the boxer puts me down, and I think they can’t handle too much power because the ringlands break, on my little research on forums I found they fail at around 340 crank?? I like fast cars but I don’t know about the subbie, can someone please help???
Going wide open throttle under 3500 rpm causes ringland failure a lot of subbie owners don’t know that so buying secondhand is a gamble I learned the hard way but I loved my WRX it was so fun when it was working correctly. If you’re not a good mechanic or don’t have money aside for repair funds it’s not a good choice
jlopez1017d I’m a good mechanic, but having two heads on opposite sides confuses me lol 😂 even easy maintenance like changing spark plugs seems hard, I’m ser between an STI or a 135i with the N54 which also has its share of problems
SL9SH I was thinking about purchasing an STI and ended up buying a 335i with the N55 engine it’s still certified pre owned so I don’t have to worry about repairs for a while. I am not a good mechanic, the 135i seems like a good alternative though if you can find one with a manual
I had a buddy with an R32, he hated that I could go out in my Subaru Outback and beat the shit out of it for hours day after day all winter long and never had a single issue but he would break something almost every time he tried to fuck around.

There's one of these in my neighborhood that's been taking up a parking spot for a while now. I'm 99% sure it's an R32 MK5.
As a 24 year old with an sti Zach's comment on the wing hits home
“How your driving the car is harder than I’ve ever driven in” then “you never owned your car”
I haven’t watched a one take in a while. The last one I watched was Matt announcing One takes were going away. So I guess this guy has taken over and they are back.
Zack: "...Subarus have reliability problems..." Me: makes a fresh bag of popcorn. :D
Relative to some other recently released vehicles, the STI's wing seems sedate and conservative in design.
The guy was like, dam'n should have never let this guy have a go in my car!
This guy had no clue what one takes are about, it's obvious that went only and only to get some adv to sell his car.
Just hit 150k in my own. Great car a little underpowered but I've enjoyed it for the past 6 years
Before I even watch this... I know this is going to sound AMAZING
Everyone talking about the weight, the curb weight was stated in the comments as 3720 lbs. Add a tank of gas and 2 adult men. It's actual weight in the video would be more than 4000 lbs
Have one myself and honestly it’s just a great car. Maintenance can be spendy but it’s a nice daily.
These things on a twisty mountain road with alot of small tunnel passes.Fun.These cars are not rockets but thier deff quick.Same speed as a DE 350z or e46 m3 I bet
Has this car been modified/upgraded other than the exhaust and the rear rotors?
Hey! It has euro-spec smoked taillights and I replaced the shift boot after the original's paint started flaking. Shoot me an email if you're interested: kylerose (at) me.com
Great video, Some facts slightly wrong, such as the weight etc but none the less a great writeup. I love my mk5 R32. Would not swap it for a GTI even if i was forced. The 3.2 VR6 is still one of the greatest engines VW ever made. All round great car and have many plans for it on my new channel "JakeW VW" videos coming shortly.
Yo
Actually, the mk4 r32 had the first DSG #themoreyouknow
FYI. Never came to the states
in europe yes in the states no
Really not the point. Whether it came to the Us or not, the mkV doesnt have the First gen DSG.
Actually my dream car. Don't ask me why, but I'd take one of these over pretty much any other sports car or even super car. 911 Turbo? R8 V10? R35 GTR? Z06 C7? No thank you. I'll have the Mk5 R32.
4000lbs sounds way too much for that, I think it's more like 3500lbs, at least the European version. Great sounding car, would love to try one.
Berry Chris I thought the same, I'm sure they're around 3600.
Well with full fluids all around and 2 guys in it, it’s probably closer to 4K do
The running weight of an r32 is 3700
Looking at these cars right now but the gti version. Got decent trade in value on my current daily and was surprised how reasonable this generation is. It would be quite an upgrade for sure.
I want a golf 4 R32
I want a VTEC + LS swapped golf from the factory
I just bought one, it's good to be back to a VR6, started with a Jetta 24v VR6 😃
I have a EU Passat B6 Wagon VR6, În looking at getting a W8 Passat.
The best sound out there . I owned one for 1 year .
Miss my old DBP MKV R32.
Perfect for road trips, great exhaust, but had electrical issues after only 50k miles.
And definitelyyy felt the heavy nose.
Which electrical issues did you have?
@@elazotacunaos4752 kid you not. had a friend fly down when i was in aruba and on our way to the beach he stated he was surprised that it didn't have any electrical issues. At that moment my sun roof wouldn't close. After that, the car started lighting up like a christmas tree. pressure sensors, head light malfunctions, passenger door windows became janky. sold it down there and never looked back.
He said this is basically an Audi. It's the other way around, the Audi A3 is actually a Golf.
Loved my mk5 r32, mine was candy white though. Still great but theres definitely some design flaws they needed to work on.
That noise 🙌
The Mk4 r32 with the DSG would be incredible!!
Christopher I’m pretty sure you could get a factory Mk4 with the DSG
Mk4 R32 dsg was overseas only, never came to the US and it’s very rare
Been waiting for this for so long
They are faster than Mark 4s. I usta hate on Mk5s, but now I like em
Hard to believe they are that heavy. My '89 928 weights 3550 and it is a V8. Still would love to have one though.
I honestly only watch R32 videos to hear what my car would sound like from the outside 😜
MK4 R32 actually had the first DSG transmission but is very rare !
in europe yes in the states no
I miss my mk4 r32 black magic pearl I was the second owner and sold it cause my family was growing. I regretted it so much o purchased a mk5 r32 last year the dsg is fun and rewarding but overall the mk4 was a all around better vehicle
I’m selling mine too! Cammed and everything else NA. It’s been a fun ride but on to something else
What kinda power does it make now??? Have you dynoed the car, I'm curious what is left on the table NA with these. What other mods besides cams???
What’s the reliability like with these? I’m looking at one with 190,000kms
I want a B6 Passat R36 sooo bad!....this is cool too but I want the bigger space of a wagon.
Audiwan Kenobi i love the R36 i had a B6 and fell in love with the R36 sadly they never came to the US
@@smgs921 you can get the R36 Appearance package tho....i was looking at a white one on Truecar.com in New Jersey I think it was...it was a 6 speed too.
I have a b6 wagon 4mo 3.6, dsg swapped. Basically an r36 now.
@@DIsr20 jealous indeed!...what color?
Audiwan Kenobi i know but the price wasnt justifiable for a body kit, i also dont own the car anymore.
Can't wait until I'm able to schedule my one take.
Seems like the driver went into this nit liking the car.
It's not a race car. They are really comfortable, quiet quick cars with loads of grip.
They won't compete with an sti or Evo, but they are way more livable.
And where is Matt?
He is lots more informative and relatable.
I won't watch another smoking tire if this guy is doing it.
2nd Gen DSG . Late in mk4 life cycle saw some come with DSG.
Not to bash the R32, it sounds fantastic, but to me the best 6 cylinder sound will come from the Jaguar F-Type S. That is one mean sounding V6 and I absolutely love it.
Farran Jonker k lol
V6 maybe but not 6 cylinder. That belongs to the gt3rs
I do like that F Type Sound. But for me personally I prefer the R32’s sound.
A j35 sounds better and perform better and lasts longer than both.
VR6 sounds more exotic imo
No VQs also sound great, tomei or no wei
I want to drive it oneday I saw it someone driving it and I pictured myself driving it love this car
makes me miss my 04 R32
VQs with a motordyne exhaust sounds fire nothing like that straight pipe stuff
HzDCrow It sets da hood on fire!
Disrespecting the vq, pshhhh
I know right Fuck he talking bout VQs don't sound good nigga please
A high schoolers wet dream 😂
They sound and vibrate like garbage. Super ghetto usually driven by low income people. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but that’s how It is.
VQ sounds like a high school trumpet band that's out of tune 😂
All the Mexicans in my hood ride that VQ dick all day long.
Do I have to put my foot in the brake before I turn it on?
Please move the incar camera back. I can't see what you're driving towards in left turns
Just straight not a fan of Zach as much as Matt with these videos. They feel more authentic and genuine when Matt does these.
Ah, here's Matt from 12 years ago - ruclips.net/video/dJev7sYa_J4/видео.html
Zach will get better. Give him time.
I always found the brakes in the mkv a little lacking. The mkiv wernt brilliant either, the Audi s3 8p however I never once used the full braking power.
I'd love to own a MKV R32 the only downside is no Manual Transmission but wouldn't mind the DSG, that's one reason im keeping my MK4 GLI VR6 don't think ill ever sell it.
... mine is manual. Love it.
Where’s Matt Farah?
Is it me or do all VW brakes feel numb at first and feeling progressively gets better with more pressure?
The '04 has the 1st gen DSG just it wasn't an option in NA. This one has the 2nd Gen DSG.
If you mod it don't be cheap, get a good dyno tune. Check oil often. Lots of stock motor EJ's with more than 300whp.
Exhaustdd thanks for answering that! More good info
jlopez1017d I’m a good mechanic, but having two heads on opposite sides confuses me lol 😂 even easy maintenance like changing spark plugs seems hard, I’m ser between an STI or a 135i with the N54 which also has its share of problems
SL9SH I was thinking about purchasing an STI and ended up buying a 335i with the N55 engine it’s still certified pre owned so I don’t have to worry about repairs for a while. I am not a good mechanic, the 135i seems like a good alternative though if you can find one with a manual
My aboslute dream car
I had a buddy with an R32, he hated that I could go out in my Subaru Outback and beat the shit out of it for hours day after day all winter long and never had a single issue but he would break something almost every time he tried to fuck around.
You should try a Golf 4 R32 if a MK5 R32 is your bucket list.. Golf 4 is far more lighter then a mk5 :P the mk5 platform is one of the heaviest golfs..
MKV and MKIV are the best looking generations imo
Hey Zack, are you still taking applications for new one takes?
@thesmokingtire
I really hope to own one one day. Or the generation prior.
Daryl rabara-brokate now is the time to buy a mkiv I sold mine for £6000 now it’s selling for £11000
Only one you really want is the MK4
