  • The San Francisco 49ers traded away quarterback Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys, meaning that the #3 overall pick from the 2021 NFL Draft is no longer a member of the team after just two seasons. And while Lance might be one of the biggest busts in quite some time, as it turns out, just about everything in his career is identical to that of another former #3 overall pick... Cincinnati Bengals QB Akili Smith

Because he played for Ohio state, will be the narrative. But the only OSU qb that was taken in the first round was Haskins, who was taken by the Commanders. Fields was put on a team that was losing a coach and GM and was in salary cap hell. But once fans and media already make up their decision on a player, they'll think it's an excuse when we say "trash o line and no weapons." Put Fields on the 49ers and Purdy would still be unknown.

I'm a 49er fan and have watched Trey from day 1, and his issue was being overly green, but as games go on you witness him getting better. He's made key mechanical changes to his throwing motion and this camp he's been VERY accurate with his throws. This is the sort of video that's gonna look really stupid in 2 years.

Competition level is a lot difference. Shows evaluation of QB, isn't just size, arm strength, mobility measurebles. Intangibles is reading defenses, processing chaos, n anticipation.

Those who liked Lance said he was strong, athletic, and mobile but then when Shanahan tried to run him they all said that Kyle had "sabotaged" trey by running him. Wtf? It was never going to work cuz people are dumb and dont know what they want evidently. I would have picked Mac Jones and let him learn from Jimmy G personally but i'm not a GM. Lol🤷

Can we really put Trey Lance in Akili Smith territory when he's played *8* games in his career thus far? Maybe the Niners saw something behind the scenes that we haven't, but we didn't get to see if Trey might've improved over the course of the previous year because he broke his leg in Week 2. With that being said, him being shipped out to be qb 3 somewhere else means his career is likely over.

Brock Purdy threw everything into flux. If not for Lance's major ankle injury, Purdy's emergence and Jimmy Garoppolo being fragile, Lance might still be a Niner today. Smith was just awful, so the circumstances aren't entirely the same.

The problem with Lance is that he didn’t have a lot of experience even coming into the nfl. The other problem with Lance is the current culture of the nfl. They no longer develop players. But honestly the problem starts with MONEY! Colleges want the 4/5 star recruits and they are expecting to play right away in college and then the NFL expects them to come in and play right away. If I recall correctly Smith didn’t get many years at Oregon either. I remember a time when the NFL would pass on a quarterback that ran the ball to much. He would have to go to Canada and play. Now most of the non runners have to go to Canada. Money and instant gratification are Lances enemy. And yes North Dakota State is a big time school now. Every year they go to the FCS championship game. They should be forced into the FBS.

If I was Jerry, I’d find out who coached up Hurts and send Lance to him for help. Because Hurts looked like a different man last year, compared to the years before. But I noticed you didn’t even put one of their TD passes on the video.

Perhaps it's time to teams to start thinking when somebody suddenly jumps off the draft board. A lot of players who go from 3rd round picks to 1st round or top 10 after one good season are a real gamble. Marino had an off senior season in College and dropped behind Eason OBrien and Blackedge. Was never sold on Lance with his window of work. Unlike.Carson Wemtz from NDSU he came in and never caught on. Wentz was good till his injury
