    Good to see the radio actually getting used rather than the click bait content creators ripping the radio to shreds.

    A comment if you don’t mind. First, let me say this was an outstanding fantastic video you did. I’m talking about the 6100 Xiegu now.
    When I first bought it last year, I had high hopes for it. And sure enough it had problems. For example, you could not finetune it. That portion just did not work. But finally with the last upgrade, I have spent quite some time with the radio. Thank goodness because before when I bought it, I left it in a box and wanted to spit on it every time I walked past. But after I made the last software upgrade it now has wonderful fine tuning and I actually was able to send Winlink over it with just a USB cable. I also did WSPR with it. And was able to find tune and do CW with it. It seems like the little box with its upgrade is coming into its own. So I think now if someone talks about it, they should first upgrade the 6100 with the latest firmware and find out that it is coming into its own. I really really like the 6100 now however there’s one thing I do not like. And that is the cheap rinky-dink tinny sound coming out of its speaker. But other than that, with a set of earbuds, I can hear it pretty clearly, and if I was to go portable and want to grab a quick radio that has an internal battery and yes, it has an internal antenna tuner I am giving second thoughts about it and may start carrying it whole lot more. With its internal battery and microphone on the front of it you can almost use it like a walkie-talkie. So the 6100 to me is coming around. I think it can safely be considered when looking for a QRP radio. Because it can also do all the digital modes. Finally, the fine-tuning works. So don’t discount that Xieugu x6100 anymore until you’ve done the last upgrade, the software, and I think you will be quite impressed.
    Oh yes, I don’t want to forget, saying that I was so easily able to send Vara HF Winlink email without an external sound card. The one built in this little box is doing just a great job. So this little boy is climbing the ladder.

      @22_floW Месяц назад

      Is there a simple way to determine if you have the respective firmware needed to fine-tune it? I just purchased this radio a couple weeks ago and I noticed how it doesn't seem to fine-tune with the tuner knob. I can adjust the increments via the FST button up on the top-right, but it seems like the lowest increments I can adjust are the 10s? (And not the single hertz.)
      In the system info screen, I can see that I have the following:
      APP: V1.1.9 Sep 14 2024, 12:11:57
      BASE: V1.1.8 Sep 15 2024, 15:22:37
      Looks like it should be pretty up-to-date considering your comment is from a year ago. Thoughts? How does one do fine-tuning on this thing?

    Hello, recieved mine about 20 days ago. I was an advanced order reservation. This is the third model of Xiegu that I own. Like my first X5195, First G90 and now x6100 you need to waddle and wait for the beta testers to tell the techs at xiegu what's wrong with the radio. They will update the firmware as time goes by. We just have to wait like salivating puppies waiting for a bowl of kibble.
    So far I am impressed and think this was a good add to my stable of radios.

    Thanks for a good review. I am tempted to add this to my QRP stable but it’s halfway+ Price wise to my 705 which I love. I’m thinking of getting another 705 or this to edc for SOTA/POTA travel (pilot for living) If Chinese product support was good it would be a no brainer. I’ll wait a bit on this one!

    At first glance, this is quite an amazing piece of technology. But...I've had problems with the quality of Chinese things.
    Everyone knows about Harbor Freight and one-use tools.
    I've had three Baofeng UV series HTs that have gone brain dead. I had a Radioddity QB25 whose audio output died conveniently two weeks out of warranty.
    On the other hand, I have several Japanese ham radios that are approaching 40 years old that still perform quite well. I have several Japanese CB radios that are over 50 years old that still work well.
    As always, you pay your money and you take your chances, but as long as "Chinese" and "quality" are mutually exclusive concepts I'll buy quality every time.

    • @W0BNC
      @W0BNC 3 года назад +1

      Fortunately, these aren't from Harbor Freight. I have a G90 and X5105, and they are simply amazing radios for the price. I've had zero issues with either. I do find myself taking the G90 portable more often than the FT-891. My X6100 is supposed to arrive Friday, and I can't wait to get it out in the field.

      That makes not really sense. This is an HAM radio equipment and indeed not a pirate transmission rig. It is probably possible to make such a modification therefore there is no HAM interested in a project allowing unlicenced people to transmit where they even aren't allowed to receive, disturbing services even more important as the HAM service already is.
      If you have professional needs to transmit on frequencies in the actually blocked ranges, you already know there are appropriate radios for this.
      Even more if you are not a licenced radio amateur you are playing a risky job transmitting with this radio even on the HAM assigned frequencies. Police officers or three letters agents will knock or worse on your door and give you a concrete lesson on what means law.
      From the technical point of view I'm confident in the fact the antenna tuner inside the radio can't tune or tune efficiently outside the HAM frequencies bands. This may set the transmitter part at risk of damage or in protection mode due to the power not being able to pass to the probably else non adapted antenna connected.
      Regards, IK2WQI, Andreas.

    It looks like a D.I.Y. project with a cheap alu. box as enclosure and some ugly rotary knobs. 600 euro is way too much. Its wiser to save some extra money and to have an Elecraft KX2 or Yaesu FT818 which both come to comparable prices. At least you'll have honest genuine products, not "borrowed", poorly integrated technology. Even the name XIEGU its an YAESU wannabe in the Chinese spirit of old Akaiwa or Powasonic 1 dolar "brands" of the 90's decade.
