The song is about the Crimean war. An opportunity to work with the orchestra came up so they did this one, symphonic metal not really their style. Alexandria or Seytanu Akbar give a better idea of the oriental/eastern influence (my favorite song is Disenchantment). Helle does a lot more growling most of their songs. Other metal bands that might fit your theme: Aephanemer (vocals (growls) & bass are female, melodic death metal) or Burning Witches (all female, thrash/classic metal)

First time mixing metal and orchestra in Ukraine I believe.
Disenchanted was the song that got me hooked to Ignea. Another great song is Seytanu akbar. Love the band and understand it might not be for everyone 😁🤟. Can se a bright future for them, and they do it unsigned to any record company's. I'm impressed by them 😀.

Oh man you could fill up the Doom Metal week again with females in metal: My Dying bride has a female bass player, The Gathering has a female singer and at one point had a female bass player as well, Draconian has female vocals, Anathema has female vocals and I think she's a more permanent member of the band now, Tristania has female vocals, Theaters do Vampires had female vocals too, Therion has female vocals, Lacuna Coil female vocals and that's just the Doom and Goth influenced bands then you get into Power Metal and Symphonic Metal is practically a requirement for them to have a female vocalist.

Thank you for checking out my request. The real track doesn't have the orchestra. For another example I would pick Alexandria . Mixes her growls and voice talent better. Also the use of more oriental scales.

Definitely check out The Gathering for a women-in-metal band. They're also one of my favorite bands, period, and Anneke van Giersbergen one of my favorite singers. That said, they haven't been "metal" for a long time as they switched to more dream-pop/shoegaze/alternative on their third album, and I rather prefer their non-metal music. For one of their metal tracks I'd recommend On Most Surfaces.

I second this! I would recommend Mandylion as a starting point, however or perhaps The Mirror Waters (plus the acoustic remix done with Anneke on Sleepy Buildings). The only thing I can't recommend is Almost A Dance.

My first thought when I see orchestras in videos is "How much does this cost?!" With that thought, it did seem a shame to just bury them in the mix like that.

You should react to "Dream Theater Illumination theory". Watch the Live From The Boston Opera House version. Absolutely breathtaking, it has inclusions from a full scale orchestra that bears a noticeable presence throughout duration the song. Definitely worth the listen

I had the same feeling, but given the song thema i can understand this could carry a meaning. Basically intro is showing time of peace with large integrated society allowing for subtleties, then sudden disruption of war, that is a discomfort put on the listener on purpose : war time will change what you want to have. Orchestra is later only to echo mourning in the atomized simplified society us then almost reduced to band, where orchestra is nostalgia motivating the fight or mourning and with the band kicking back when trying to escape reality though the orchestra.

Check out Ignea's song Disenchantment! It's relatively new and captures more of their usual sound.

The message of the song is a reaction to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia- specifically the annexation of Crimea several years ago. The lyrics at the end referring to "godless bastards" and the "two headed eagle" point at Russia.

    • @mazerumaze
      @mazerumaze 2 года назад

The title and the lyrics, "shout "Alga!" and kill", are also a reference to Crimean Tatars (the whole song is actually about that minority, not Ukraine as a whole). Alga was a Crimean Tatar war cry.

This song makes a lot more sense when you know the band is from the Ukraine, and the message is definitely not just "historical".

hey this is a cool idea for this week ! if you do more women in metal, Margaret Killjoy is someone you can't miss (well actually you could miss her since she isnt very famous, but you shouldn't miss her). She takes part in 4 very cool musical projects :
--- *Nomadic War Machine* , a more electronic/industrial/pop/gothic/breakcore project (==> not really metal and i dont know it very well), so i don't know if it fits the theme of the week and i wouldn't know what to recommend.
--- *Feminazgul* is an Atmospheric Black Metal project (i dont think you've covered much BM on the channel yet), it is REALLY good and i love it very much. Now, BM in of itself, and particularly Atmospheric BM, is a pretty special genre, so i don't know how much you'll enjoy it as a review, since it is the kind of music you really have to be "in the mood" for. But if you do want to cover it (which i would absolutely love), I would recommend the song "The Rot in the Field is Holy" from the band's only album.
--- *Vulgarite* , her solo project with 1 single EP so far ("Fear Not the Dark Nor the Sun's Return"), which is closer to black doom, also very ambient. This might be slightly more "beginner-friendly" in terms of black metal. I like the whole EP very much, but if i had to recommend, i'd say the last song ("A Decade, A Prophecy") is good if you're only going to cover a single song.
--- finally, she takes part in a neofolk/noise band called *Alsarath* , which also has only 1 EP so far called "It's Bones What Make This Garden Grow", the last song of which i particularly love (its also the title song). Not really metal but it's very nice
*IN CONCLUSION* if you had to pick a single thing from this whole list i'd probably say that the song "A Decade, A Prophecy" from the album "Fear Not the Dark Nor the Sun's Return" from the band "Vulgarite" is a good choice for something that won't be too hard to listen to for a first BM-adjacent song. Its pretty melodic and calm whilst also having clear BM elements.
*note* : since none of these bands are very famous, i doubt you'll find everything on youtube, but i know for a fact that all of these bands have a bandcamp page where you can listen to the songs for free.
*second note* : if you end up listening to some of this black metal and wanting more atmospheric stuff, it would be really interesting to hear your thoughts on the one-man band "Lustre", it is REALLY unique. Like, I haven't heard anything like it. I would almost call it "whimsical black metal" but im not even sure it has any of the usual instruments of black metal apart from drums and the high screams.
alright thats it for this very long comment, i might have some more recommendations tomorrow :)

I watched a lot of Rock/Metal/Videogames-Music mixed with an orchestra. And in every video or concert the classical musicians looks either bored or disgusted.
Like they were thinking "omg, what i am doing here? I practiced thousands of hours , had no youth, no parties and now I have to do some background music for metalheads, just for the money."

Never heard of this band/song, but I'm not really digging this. It's all pretty bland, generic, symphonic metal. Riffs were boring, orchestra was under-utilized and buried in the mix, and her voice wasn't anything special.
