I want to talk with you about how I view this, what my thought process is, and whether I will be shutting rigs down or not. Keep in mind, I am not a professional, and this is not investment advice. Would love to hear an update and see what you’ve been up to.
HashRapto has this very wrong, if you are loosing money by mining TODAY, then you are better off turning off your rigs and just buying that same coin TODAY at a cheaper price than mining. Obviously when that coin goes up in value its a moot point, as it goes up regardless if you mined or purchased it.
I was going to say the same thing with a little caveat, fees need to be taken into consideration, losses that can offset any other income and uncertainty of holding your coin on exchange vs own wallet. So, what-to-mine loss needs to be adjusted for personal situations.
You have to factor in the fees to buy a coin everyday. Then you actually have to take time to buy it everyday.
if negative it means better to buy the coin(rather than paying negative electricity)
The diference is that , back then the price vas low but the yield was high , now price is low, yield is low ... so better turn off for now and just buy the coin .
It doesn’t make sense to waste electricity and put extra miles on your gpus when you can buy the coins cheaper than your electric cost
It's not fair to compare what just happened with 2018 , i was still mining and stacking like you are saying at that time but you forgot to mention something very important: eth was there absorbing a lot of hashrate and less people where mining than now. the yields on all interesting coins like flux ergo etc are now way less , a hole rig can only make you 1 flux a day that's terrible ... Let face weak hands must shutdown and gpus must get way way cheaper so the strong hands can build rigs for cheap so they can make some profits
Yep you are right. I should have touched on that. I did discuss a little in a POW segment I cut due to length of the video. But I should have done a 60 second overview on where that hashrate is going. My personal hope is that the big GPU farms have to shut down, and the at-home miners are what remain when the dust settles.
It’s better to just buy the coin if your mining at a loss.
You think one Flux a day is terrible? You have no idea what one Flux will be worth in five or ten years, it could be hundreds, it could be thousands. Maybe if you mine Flux though this bear market you'll make your fortune. If you'd told someone mining Eth in November 2016 (when it was $7) it'd be $4000+ in 5 years they'd have laughed. One BTC was one dollar ten years ago.
Should you buy one Flux a day instead rather than mine it? Maybe, but if you believe in the project, maybe not.
Besides all hobbies cost money, this one has the potential to also make money.
@@fontyyy well yeah I agree with you and I'm bullish on flux but 1st my rig was making me 60 flux in 4 days and 2nd not everyone is willing to hold 5 or 10 years
@@fontyyy what he’s trying to say is its MORE PROFITABLE TO BUY THE COIN THEN TO MINE IT RIGHT NOW. If your mining 1 flux a day and it’s costing you 50c in power then your not mining 1 flux a day your only getting 50c. So if you just bought 1 Flux you would have more flux correct?
So you are saying that you speculate mine and hodl. Efficiency doesn't matter then? Aging equipment doesn't matter? Power bill doesn't matter? You have enough disposable income and faith in a project that money doesn't matter it appears.

I believe ergo will out perform eth in the next bull run. I will keep my little farm growing and mining regardless of the price right now.

I like the vid, but I think this is mostly relevant to spec mining. For instance, I may not mind burning 200/mo in electric on a coin that you cant buy. If I can buy 10 other coins for the same 200, why would I mine if I only get 8 coins by burning 200 in electric. Security, fees, fun and convenience (and tax benefit if you can do it) also come into consideration, but there is a limit. I hate having my rigs off, though. I am paying all my electric out of pocket, but still...I can buy more coins for the same $ and HODL. Waiting for cheaper GPUs in another 6mo. Most of sellers on ebay and facebook are still delusional.

the difference this time is that eth left us so profits over night dropped over 60% more than we were making the prior day of the current bear market
The merge was terrible idea for us miners. I have a rig that uses just 280 watt but I pay 0,60 cent euro p/kw. That comes around 100,- euro energy cost per month, which coin is gonna cover that amount off money? Shutting down is earning 100,- per month for a fact!
just cpu mine and collect a little bit of coin and hope one day the price rises or just give up.
if u do hold them then u lose more couse the program calculates the lose if u sell them..
best way now is shut down the rig and then invest all of money from electricity costs. Stack up positions and that's it. My rig accualy make 1/3$ of electricity. Example: My rig 3x3060 and 2x 3090 make about1.5$ now per day so that means monthly gives me 45$. My electricity costs me 120$ monthly. so i decided to shut it down and invest that 120$ into projects
Still if you pay $0,1 like used in your example, it would be stupid to mine the coins. Everybody how pay for electric has to calculate how much they pay and if they pay more then they mine in $ value, they have to shutoff the farm and buy the coin from the money saved in electrics.
But you're forgetting that using your hardware will cause degredations and if you have too many rigs you can't pay attention to each gpu, and in this market you can't afford losing gpus

I appreciate the sober optimism based on your experience. I entered on 2021 shortly before the top of the bullrun and despite the ill timing I remain here doing DCA and even mining. I would say that Crypto as a whole doesn't worry me long term. What worries me is PoW. Don't get me wrong I believe in it and think it's more meritocratic/fair than PoS but the whole financial world is moving towards ESG bs and the precedent of the ETH merge might put more pressure against PoW

I understand your argument that if you hold and sell at a higher price you don't lose but if at today's market your electrical bill costs more than the coins you mine then wouldn't you have more coins if you used the hydro money to by the coins directly instead of mining them?

Everyone has roi. Not sure how u forcast you future but what if in a year as you say your holding on to it or even a 1/4 if that tanks. Then what hold more.. I sell my crypto to pay the hydro thats it. Cards are all paid for. But if i cant cover my hydro and its not just zero its -. If i was on solar and hydro was free well diff conversation. For now everything is off. Not making not losing. And i can bank the money and make 5%. But thanks for the info.

Thanks! Great music. Great insight! It’s a little hard for me to mine at a loss at 34-50 cent power. I may run one super efficient rig and stake the coins. I dunno. I may just keep them off and invest in solar to run the rigs or I lay just buy the coins every month. I’d actually like to get some hbar at 6 cents… my xrp bag is packed. OK but, it depends on the coin : it's better to pay 17 ERG at 4.2$ (71,5$) rather than mining 30 days for around 300$ electricty for the same amount. For ERG, I have 2700 Mhs for 2400w and my Kwh costs me 0,17$ (0,17 euro in fact but that's the same )
it's better to try to mine an almost unknown coin and hope that he will pump one day !
Sometimes, I wonder if it could be a good move to try cpu mining : no more difficult repad, easy cleaning, very solid hardware, low consumption...
I pay 0,60 cent per kWh. Game over for Europe coming months.

I am going to continue to mine will all my rigs... big picture
The big picture is, you would get more coin for your $$ TODAY by turning off your rigs and just buy that coin direct. Over time you will have more coin for the same $$ and be better of than mining it at least at the moment. So that's what the "logical" big picture looks like.
My Helium miner made $1.25 yesterday. My 1 GHs ergo rig made $1.10. Crazy.
I kinda did this with Ergo a few weeks before the merge happened and stacked around 400 something coins. I have since shut off everything and using this time to do maintenance on the cards and stick a 3090 in my gaming rig. :) I'm hoping Ergo will explode one day so I'm just gonna hold the coins. I don't expect it to get to Ethereum prices, but even if it got to $50 I'd be happy. I wish I did this with some other coins, but I just put everything I had into solo mining Ergo those last few weeks.

the assumption from what to mine is still valid.. because i can use the money i would spend on electricity to keep my rigs running .. to just buy MORE crypto then i could get from mining thats why the value is NEGATIVE.. right? as an example if it costs me 225/mo in electrical power.. but i am mining at -4.00/day example ETC.. i could just go buy 225.00 of ETC and have MORE ETC for the same cost i would have from mining. what you stated, just keep mining and stacking, is basically equivalent to saying it ok to use mining to acquire ETC at a higher cost then just buying the ETC outright on an exchange, makes zero sense.

Sorry but GPU mining is dead and there's no way around that fact. I don't care how much you like the project, a negative is a negative. If you pay more in electricity than the crypto is worth, then you're just burning money - full stop.
