Eligibility periods were different back then. For consideration at the 22nd Annual Daytime Emmys [aired May 19th, 1995], the eligibility period was February 01st, 1994, through January 31st, 1995. However, due to frequent preemptions caused by the O.J. Simpson trial, exceptions were made on a case-by-case basis.
For example: Erika Slezak’s first submitted episode aired December 01st, 1994. Her second episode aired February 02nd, 1995. She was allowed to submit the latter because it was originally intended to air during the eligibility period.
Slezak’s first ep is great, but her second ep is what blew the competition out of the water and sealed the deal. Had she not been allowed to submit it, I wonder what she would have chosen. And if it would have paved the way for Leslie Charleson who, surely and arguably, came in 2nd place. [logically anyway. Brad Maule was assumed to be the lock of the night but then lost to Justin Deas winning his 5th overall but 1st in Lead. The only other previous winner in Lead Actress was Maeve Kinkead, but it was rare in those days for a show to win both categories of Lead and Supporting].
It’s hard to say about Marj Dusay. She debuted in September 1993 after inheriting the role of Alexandra from an actress who never received a nom for the role, the sublime Beverlee McKinsey. However, she only submitted her name once (in 1992, for her work in 1991), and was left off (making her one of the two biggest snubs that year, the other being Kate Collins). It’s hard to say “If they never gave a nom to Beverlee, they’ll surely not give a win to Marj” when the former only submitted once.

From what ive seen they shouldve let GL end with dignity and honor 10 or 15 years earlier then to let it take a nose dive over time only prompting the decline. Love Erika too.

Agreed. There were signs in 94 that GL was on it's last legs.
