A GM I know is really into this system. He asked me to join a one-shot one day when there was almost no time for me to learn it, and I was still able to jump into an Alien adventure and do well and have a bunch of fun. Thanks for the walkthrough, it was helpful!

Awesome video glad to see someone else preaching the benefits of savage worlds!
One small correction. The most recent super powers companion is actually for swade. So no conversion needed.
That said great job laying this out as a long time savage worlds player it’s nice having this laid out as it can be overwhelming for new players

He also got Raises wrong. It's not double the TN, it's 4 above the TN.

Hey SSD! At the Pinkerton debacle I said my goodbyes to WOTC and started investigating systems. I arrived at Savage Worlds, marveled at how lightweight and customizable it was, and how fast to adapt. The D&D campaign just finally wound completely down, and we're ready to start in on the new homebrew to make best use of Savage Worlds. It feels too simple, until you skin it for your own setting, or pick up one of the commercial settings, and then you're like.... OH... the SWADE manual is just the guts. Assembly required, but if you know what you're doing, the system is one of the most extensible, scalable, and lightweight game mechanics for TT and VTT RPGs.
I'll be posting videos soon myself. It's a lovely system and so far Pinnacle is more honest than WOTC, which isn't all that hard.

    Thanks for doing this video.
Old gamer here, and I have loved Savage Worlds ever since it was Great Rail Wars, and been running it since Savage Worlds Deluxe (2012-ish).
I often say, especially when seeing videos about how to hack 5E to make it "more fun" or "more exciting", that 5E gamers actually want to play Savage Worlds, they just don't know it.
Also, thank you for saying SW is Cinematic. That is probably the best way to describe its "pulpy" and "swingy" table dynamic. SW is not a technical simulationist game, nor is it a "story" RPG. It is the best of all time IMO at bridging the gap between rules-lite speed run style gaming and crunchy tactical maps-n-minis style gaming. But at the same time. At the same table, with both kinds of players, or even players who have never played SW before, or who have never played ANY RPG before! I have done this many times at conventions, with tables full of strangers, and every game is a blast for everyone, and that is no exaggeration. A conference hall full of twenty SW games on a Saturday night sounds like a hockey game, with dice rolling sounds instead of ice skating sounds.
"Bennies" was a thing for "people of a certain age". Shane Hensley is of such an age. Don't worry about it. They are called Bennies and they do Benny Things. Roll with it.
Thanks for your hard work, and thanks for sharing and spreading the word about Savage Worlds, one of the best TTRPGs ever made.

Maybe it's my age (I'm 54) but bennies has been pretty much common slang for benefits throughout my lifetime.

The 'Tiny D6` system i love and is super simple but/and is very home brew-y very savage worlds in concept (a lot of books for different settings (heros/magic/wild West/ect.) but you could teach a ten year old how to play in 15 minutes. Our DND campaign is converting to savage worlds and I'm studying up, thanks for the pitch, this looks rad 🤘

Many many moons ago, I played in the Pirates of the Spanish Maine setting, circa 2005ish. I do not know which edition that was in, though. I had a blast. We used the punch out card mini ships along with it. It was great.

8:03 not double, Raise is when you roll 4 over the target number... yes, the general TN is 4, but in many cases (melee combat) it might be higher
Also, to be precise, TN 4 is not modified by GM - they instead give you a modifier to the roll.

Check out Genesys (and the Star Wars RPG that was it's predecessor) by Edge Studios (formerly Fantasy Flight Games) under the Asmodee umbrella. And look into Gamer Nation Con next April. It's a great, small con with GMs that write for Genesys and a bunch that run SWADE.

The old Lords of Creation game by Avalon Hill is another classless system that I really like. As a bonus, it's another system in which characters are not just allowed, but *EXPECTED* to move from genre to genre, so the narrative behind each LoC adventure could be easily converted. 😁

Savage Worlds is a great generic system. It is one of my "go-to" systems. If you have an idea of something you want to play, horror, sci-fi, fantasy etc. there is likely a sourcebook out there already that does that. If you want to create your own setting thee core book will help you make any setting you can think of. The "powers" (like spells) have generic names like Blast and the player changes the concept of just Blast to some Flavor, i.e. Fire Blast or Ice Blast. This allows for some nice ideas on the character side to create the hero they want. The dice Acing allows for some great moments in combat. If there was one thing I wish the rules explained better it is the mechanic around Chases. It took several reads for me to wrap my head around it and even now I think I would, in the moment, do it based of just dice rolls than stop to look it up.

I really enjoyed using Savage worlds for Cyberpunk with the Interface Zero setting, especially for "some-shots".
However, when I then tried using it for fantasy I ran into huge problems, key-ly "loot." In that Cyberpunk game there were lots of implants, expensive weapons, armor, and vehicles to purchase and use. When it came to fantasy though, there's not much to upgrade with money in any of the books I could find without going right into magic items, then I found that it seemed like magic items in Savage worlds are just 'stat sticks' from what I could find, either giving you an edge, or more often just flat bonuses to skills or damage. It felt... exceptionally boring and frustrating to know that to spice up the game with that kind of stuff I'd have to go entirely from scratch. That of course extended to the monster and enemy library for Fantasy as well. Maybe I was trying to use the system wrong, but it felt like a huge disparity I just didn't run into with the Cyberpunk game.

Savage Worlds is my favorite system these days, but I can agree loot and rewards are still tough for me to give out well. Money never seems very important, as interesting upgrades are the magical relics and stuff, and most are indeed just stat buffs.
The game runs in a cinematic style, which if you can not draw attention to lack of loot and focus story and combat, it works lol

Some day it'll finally be my turn to DM again and I'm definitely taking my table into Deadlands. I kind of like the previous Deluxe Edition version, but I can understand why they moved the narrative forward and eliminated the "players can play Confederates" angle. I've heard Deadlands has some balance issues, namely guns being really overpowered due to creatures not really getting to defend against them (if you're not in cover you are probably getting shot, and guns tend to bypass toughness easily) but... maybe that's how it should be. A guy with a knife should probably not be able to just run up to someone firing a relatively modern repeating gun.

Most supers games don't, though that's not 100%. Also GURPS, which gets a mention early in the video.
Speaking of supers games, the new Super Powers Companion for SWADE is fairly close to a complete powers toolkit for any number of genres. I suspect without evidence that it was the first companion completed because it can be used to balance powers in not only all the settings, but in the other companions as well.
