Breaks my heart to throw such memories of yourself. I am having the same problem with photos. I just can no throw them away. I know my sons aren’t interested them specially with friends. Good luck!
Well I know it's really hard and I hope I don't regret the decision. But I do have prints of some of my favorite modeling shots in a portfolio as well as the digitized versions. The problem with slides is it's kind of difficult to really enjoy them and I can't see myself sending them off to a lab to get printed. I haven't done it so far so it probably won't get done.
Thank you! Very interesting video! I think at 77 I decided to keep what’s important to me and enjoy it while I’m alive. From thrift shopping with my mom as a little girl till now, I often see interesting and beautiful items that I pick up and really think about the history about them! Somebody loved them, now I will and maybe later on someone else will!
Oh my, you have always been beautiful! You still are. I have over 4,000 negatives stashed away. Occasionally, I go through some, have prints made & put away. I just can't toss any of them. You are brave for tossing those slides. So beautiful!
Oh sweet Joy to the world. How fitting of a name is that. You brought Joy to my world with your kind comment. Wow that's amazing that you have 4,000 negatives. I would love to know the story behind that. I won't throw out anything that I don't at least have a scanned image of. I'm thinking of getting one of those digital frames to enjoy my photos because otherwise I don't get to enjoy them enough. It felt really hard to throw the slides away I have to admit. But they've been stored away forever and I just don't ever see myself trying to make more prints of them. At least they are scanned now and I do have a modeling portfolio of prints.
@@victoriagoingforit6183 Hi! My dad passed away when I was 14. He left his 35mm film camera for me. I was obsessed. I dove in feet first into photography, hence the 4,000 negatives. Now that the world is digital, I shoot with my newer camera. It's just not the same.they are very organized & I can find anything I need within 15 minutes from any year from 1972 until now. Crazy hoarder...lol
Way to go! Get rid of as much as you can! If you have problems with the rv toilet you will use a bag with the rv toilet till it's fixed👍🏼. Remember the money you spent on things you no longer need, is not saved by keeping the object. The money is gone so get rid of the object so you can enjoy the space. You are doing great!! Even if you don't go full time you will enjoy your space even more with room to breath. Gorgeous sweater!!
Thank you Ann. Yes I really want to downsize no matter what because I feel like I'm getting a bit too cluttered in my space. Too easy to accumulate things and then be reluctant to give them up. I will be making several trips to the local thrift store for sure. You make some good points as the money is gone so I have to really hold the object in my hand and say does this give me joy and if not, let someone else enjoy it. Thank you for the validation because some other comments are saying I shouldn't have thrown the slides away so I was second-guessing myself.
It's really hard and I've been procrastinating it for a long time. It's a little overwhelming but I will just keep plugging on. I hope you get through it too!!
Oh I'm heartbroken that you threw the slides away! Surely they would fit in your box of photos?.. You have your photos so beautifully organized! I agree, I don't look at digital photos very often because there are just so many files. Having prints is really special. I also have a lot of prints that I've procrastinated organizing for years... I might try your box system with dated sections! The boxes are so pretty too! 😍 Wow it is fun that you tried modeling and were in a band! Love the pictures!
Well the slides were a little bit like the digitized photos where I just didn't get to see them very often so it made sense to throw them away after storing them for decades. The good news is I do have prints of some of my favorite shots in a modeling portfolio that I will not throw away. I also scanned them so I can always look at them there. I keep thinking if I ever get a partner again I can show them my pictures as a way to show my history. It was really hard to throw them away. Even harder is some handwritten letters from loved ones. So much of this stuff just get stored away and hardly ever looked at so I feel like I have to be ruthless in my downsizing efforts. But yeah I agree I was heartbroken to throw the slides away. Definitely try the box system with dates. It makes it so much easier to quickly find what you want to see. I think I bought those boxes years ago at Tuesday Morning. It's a store but I think they're closed now. My twenties were probably the most exciting time of my life between living in New York City, modeling and being in a band. Went back to LA and had some exciting times but life is definitely not as adventurous anymore. But I'm trying to make it so again!!
I am so glad to have come across this! So glad to know that Im not the only one that wears the same thing 2-3 days at a time. I have 2 closets full of clothes that i will probably never wear again. Im 69 years old have 3 grandchildren and my daily outfits are sweats with teeshirts… i also have 3 dogs and usually end up with dog hair all over everything i wear.😂 You have inspired me to let go of stuff that I don’t need. Thank you!
Yeah I think it's good to wear clothes two and three days at a time and another way to do it I suppose is just rotate clothes for a week. Where one outfit and then the next day a different one and then go back to the first outfit and just rotate out. You and I are the same age pretty much and I wear mostly casual clothes too. But I do miss dressing up. I went on a cruise last year and it was so much fun to dress up after all these decades. I'm glad I've inspired you to let go of things you don't need. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch my video and commenting!
I put my stuff in storage also. Just so when I’m can’t traveling I can have an apartment. Not much stuff. A few furniture pieces and some keepsakes stuff.
Oh my goodness, I loved seeing your pictures ! What beautiful pictures ! I hate that you had to throw the slides away. What about giving them to your nieces ?
I know it's really hard to see myself throwing away the slides but slides are a bit difficult because you can't really enjoy them like you can a print. Fortunately I do have some prints of some of my favorite modeling shots. My nieces I don't think would be interested at this point in inheriting any stuff from me. I thought of that for sure but I just don't want a burden them. My sister actually gave some boxes of diaries and photos to one of her daughters and the daughter ended up throwing out most of it. So it's kind of sad because I don't think younger generations really are all that interested. I don't know. My other niece lives in such a small space I couldn't burden her with more stuff. But I do keep them in mind and think about is this something that I would want to pass down to my nieces once I am gone? Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
I'm excited because I found a pair of very comfortable drawstring linen pants. You made me feel better that you've been downsizing for 3 years and I'm getting down to myself for not downsizing more but it is quite the process isn't it
Yeah I agree I'm not going to get rid of my most sentimental stuff and I won't throw something out unless I have either photographed it or digitized it like letters and photographs. I have definitely reconciled myself to the fact that I won't get rid of everything I own and will have a small storage unit should I get out onto the road which is my goal.
What an exciting and interesting life you must have had. I don't have kids either, but I have such a problem getting rid of pics. Memories are all I have. Most of my friends have passed, and I'm only 62. The bands we went to see in the 80's only have 1 member left. Weird how life changes. You're beautiful now. Talking about pants...I wore skinny jeans a while back, and they look good on me, but I almost had a panic attack trying to get them off!😁
Yes I think my life was pretty interesting and exciting in my twenties and thirties. Things calm down of course quite a bit to more of a mundane life in my 40s and beyond. It's really hard to get rid of pictures because they are good memories. But I'm not going to throw out anything that I don't at least have another medium that it is saved in either digital or print. I'm sorry to hear that most of your friends have passed especially when you are so young. But of course you are young enough to still make more friends. That is too funny about struggling to get the skinny jeans off. I won't wear them myself. I always have enjoyed loose fitting lol. Thank you so much for the compliment!
My mother was an avid photographer and when my parents passed, I had over 70 photo albums, reels of film, boxes of slides which compressed down to 3 bins. I had to be ruthless because I have photos of my own too so this winter, I am planning on buying a fast scanner and get rid of them all. Nobody looks at them, including myself. I downsized from my house to a townhouse and I still have too much. I probably use 10% of it. You need a good chair to lounge in at a campsite. You can get rid of the toilet, you can always use the campground toilets in an emergency. Yeah, I agree - I couldn't get rid of my stuff either. Smart decision to keep your things.
I have the most trouble of finding pants that I think look good on me. That's probably true for most of us. I don't like pants that are tight or bind at the waist. So it's a challenge
Don’t throw them away, instead put them on a thumb drive so you can look at them when you want to. 😮 Maybe buy one of those digital photo frames so they rotate through your favorites.
Well I kind of have them on the cloud of course to look at when I want to although it's a little bit challenging to find what you want to see sometimes there. I might get one of those digital frames. I know my sister has one and they enjoy it. It's one way to see your pictures. I could even cast them to my TV. Thank you for watching and commenting
My mom loved going to estate sales, she would buy photos of other people's travels and life, she couldn't stand to think that someone's memories would be forever lost... But Hey, you put it on video... so perhaps it will go on forever in this video? :)
Well I won't throw out pictures if I haven't at least scanned them digitally. So they are not gone forever. I'm just throwing out the physical ones but keeping my absolute favorites in print form. I have a modeling portfolio that I won't throw out that has a lot of the best images that I took. I can't bring myself to throw that out. But the slides were hard because of how small they are and you can't really enjoy them so better that I have them digitally instead. Maybe I can get one of those digital frames
Please don’t throw your pictures away. Those are beautiful 😢
The memories are stored in your mind. If you are enjoying showing them to others then keep them.
Im 54,, i loved the 80s!

Black and White photo's last longer then colored photo's. I'm impressed you shared your life.
If you don’t love it & don’t need it then let it go. I always feel better after purging things I don’t wear or use.
