Mac & Cheese is much older than the 2000's My grandmother prepared it for her family in California since before the Great Depression. It became popular in the 1960's, 1970's, 1980's 1990's and to the present. It was made from scratch but since the late 1960's it appeared in a box package by Kraft, Velveeta, etc. It is much older than that since the late 1700's also originally was made in England, Italy and Western Europe with different variations and ingredients. it is the most famous American comfort food!!!!

Thank you. Was looking for this comment. Even if they are saying it was most popular in the 90’s…that is incorrect. It’s been popular for ages.
Now, if they meant what was the most popular American food of the 90’s then fine..but that isn’t how they’ve sold this entire show up to this point.

There are hundreds of variations of Mac and cheese and we ate them all that way from the 1970's on. The best never came out of a little card board box but were made from"scratch" or the basic ingredients. things that can be put into Mac and cheese: tuna, sausage, pulled pork, hot dogs, green peas and many others. A good way to feed a large number of people relatively cheap.
Btw SPAM is only good fried.

I like the vid but y'all could use some more research. Bacon bits are not traditionally on Caesar salads. Avocado bagel was never even a thing, it was always avocado toast that was trendy. Mac and Cheese was brought to the US by Thomas Jefferson in the 1700s and has basically been popular ever since. Never seen spam served with green peas as a meal before. I definitely question where you got the data that these are the most popular foods from these eras.

Watching a lot of these types of videos, I'm struck by how dry and separated we like our food in the US. Not a lot of soupy, saucy, layered stuff. More like a piece of meat, a piece of bread, and a scoop of veggies side-by-side on a plate. Even our fancy cuisine is served up like a school lunch. 😅

Millennials rely too much on personal memories instead of deep research. Noodles and cheese is an old recipe, macaroni one of many variations, like Fettuccine Alfredo (1908), the cheddar cheese variation is one of the most popular in the US because of the limited variety of nationally available cheeses during the the first half of the 20th century. In post-war American, after women had been encouraged to work outside the home, they were displaced back to the home by returning husbands. Women were encouraged to simultaneously live more affluently and raise families. This was the era of convenience in all forms, and mac and cheese was one of the most affordable and easiest to prepare dinner entrees- from a mix in 10-15 minutes. Prepackaged mac and cheese was promoted most successfully by Kraft in the 1950s. It fell out of favor when misinformed doctors exaggerated the potential harm of saturated fat and salt in the diet, based on faulty research which triggered the low-fat low-sodium products craze. Twenty years later, grandparents living on reduced budgets who were asked to watch kids, remembered their inexpensive childhood comfort foods, and reintroduced them to their grandchildren. Post-2000 "reconstructing" established inexpensive comfort foods as "healthier if handmade" is a 2000's fad.

I actually despise Ceaser salad. I can't stand Romain lettuce or the anchovies in the dressing. My salad of choice is a nice Cobb salad without the onions or blue cheese. As for the Lava cake...you missed the decade. The lava cake is really from the 80's. It became popular in the 90's but was not invented in that decade. Spam was not invented to be a means of providing a cheap meal during the depression. It was invented to be a way to increase sales of a cut of meat that not a big seller. Instead of throwing out a cut of meat that most people did not buy, the industry came up with a way to use that meat. As for your Mac and Cheese information...well, it's because you are so young. That dish actually dates all the way back to the 14th century! If it weren't such a popular dish for the last 600 years it would not have lasted long enough to still be made in the 20th century!
