I knew about it since whenever I was playing it in '97. As he said in the video, it was just one of those things where you'd rather design your preferred route to avoid the trains, so you didn't have to rely upon a really tough trick in the middle of a speedrun, that may or may not even be worth the risk if there's a smarter route that avoids the train & is faster.

It's I think what every speedrunner has nightmares about, you think you messed up on some specific trick, and you go to reset out of habit, only to discover to your horror that you actually landed it perfectly and you going to reset it just invalidated everything
It’s really the worst feeling, I had something like it a while ago, I had the best run I’d ever had and accidentally reloaded a quick save or paused, invalidating the run. It wasn’t quite as one in a billion as the fence clip, but it was still one of the best I’ve ever done.

That moment after the player managed to clip that fence and immediately reset the game has happened to me when doing repetitive tasks like in Breath of the Wild when getting rupees from the lottery guy.
It's still wild to me that over 25 yeas after its release, and a massive dedicated community to TT, you'd think that any improvements to be made would be very minor, a few hundredths to a few tenths of a second. But we still have records being shaved by tens of seconds years later, with it being unclear what the actual low barrier is for many tracks. Fucking amazing.
He’s an incredible gamer for sure, but no one should hold *every* record. That’s just unfair, and destroys the fun, even if they are genuinely the best player. It’s like when you play Mario Kart with your friends but you speedrun the game and they just play it at parties, so you always come first, they can’t have any success and you never get any competition. After a few rounds, no one wants to play any more, and you all stop.

Established Titles is a scam. You don't get to be a "laird" or anything. You don't own the plot of land. You just receive a fancy plaque while some people in Hong Kong pocket most of it and donate a few bucks of it to get some trees planted somewhere (and not necessarily in Scotland.)

Reminder that creators who take scummy sponsors without knowing their scumminess cannot just reupload without the sponsorship, pin a comment decrying them, etc. because of the contracts they have to agree to. The best you can reasonably expect is for the creator to not take the sponsorship in the future. It's different when you take a sponsor that is widely known for being scummy but at the time this video was made it was only just being exposed.

26:36 Isn't the problem not that he restarts the attempt, but rather that he paused? You can hear him freak out before he selects retry, he even pauses slightly on it before selecting it. Pauses aren't allowed in these speedruns, so he effectively voided the attempt as soon as he paused, meaning all he could really do was select retry after he did so. That aside, great video as always.
I comission the music I use and not all of it gets uploaded to RUclips or soundcloud by the authors I work with, the intro track is my season 2 intro by Novadrome, it may be on his soundcloud but I'm not 100% sure.

The timing is complex, NTSC (mostly Japanese/American) and PAL(mostly European) consoles run at different speeds and thus the timer ends up different. In-game time is still used as the primary way of calculating speedrun times, but the community had to develop a program that converts times from one to the other. Usually PAL times are used as the standard IIRC, since it’s much easier to play in PAL than NTSC due to the slower speed, so that 39.54 PAL comes to 46~ seconds in NTSC.
Reminder that Established Titles is a pretty massive scam that doesnt gives you land, a title, or plant trees in your name.
