Bought the peloton guide with the three sets of weights (middle package) for $263 (with tax) on Black Friday as a Christmas present. Going to set it up this week!@
Thanks Travis, good info. I questioned the membership cost ( which was answered by Rachel…thanks! ) While this looks like a cool addition, I’m going to stick with my digital subscription, I just use my IPAD or computer when I want use their floor/weight workouts ( no cool features, but gets the job done😊), and for now, I’m happy. The rower and the bike are what will pull me into the higher bracket! Until then, I’ll just keep being entertained and educated by your videos! Keep up the great work 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😌
Thank you so much KD. No reason to fix what is not broken! It is nice that you can still get to the content at such a lot cost. Don't blame you one bit for going that route! Hopefully that rower comes out soon! 😀
I've got a low ceiling in my basement. That looks like it might be a problem for you too.... how does the tracker do with navigating that? Like, if you sit and do shoulder presses does that work? I'm still mid video so you may be about to answer this.
I need to do another test run of this when I get time but it did okay from what I remember. There were some exercises where I was coming up with my own modification and you could tell it had no idea what to do. Others, it seemed to do okay with. Ideally, they put modifications into the program so it is planned and tracked.
At the 300 dollar price tag, did you also have to purchase a subscription? Im trying to see if the 90% cost reduction is because they removed an included subscription, or if 300 was just too much for a camera and android tv box with custom firmware.
Had the Bike+ for 1-1/2 year, got the guide on impulse 2 months ago - was it necessary with the Bike subscription? No - does it gamify better than the bike - yes - so in that case a good investment as it keeps me engaged - totally agree this is not for someone looking to bulk up - for the rest of us - money well spent I will say placement is important so your movements get picked up - and for those saying you can spoof it - sure you can but why - who are you really spoofing - yourself right?
Just found your channel. great content and presentation!! I love peloton but on the fence with the guide. Wish it could offer feedback on form...not sure if it is any better than than the mirror I have in my pelo gym in its current state. Pls keep putting out these quality videos.
Sure thing. I wanted something that would give just enough space for the Guide so it would not dominate the wall. Found this guy on Amazon and it ha worked well! amzn.to/3VPHUBp
I've been eagerly awaiting your review on the Guide and yiu didn't disappoint. Great and positive video, thanks. I love my Guide but I found one annoying thing about it. If you only have the instructor onnthe screen (no self mode) then the movement tracking stops. This could be solved in an update but it's very annoying.
Thank you so much Rachel! That would be annoying as that is one of the most important features. I have to imagine they will fix that one, but we will see.
Soooo do they have modifiers for ppl who have oh saayyyy bad back or knee...shoulder which I can work thru of modifications are there like my beach body dvds😅
Big fan of yours, Travis! You’re the reason why I got a Peloton in the first place, so I appreciate this video a ton. Some people talk about how you can “game” the camera by moving randomly and how that’s a deterrent. I feel like I’m just going to do the movements like they were intended. Do you find it distracting or frustrating when the camera miscounts or is easy to game?
Thank you so much Dave and so happy to hear the videos have helped out! I didn't spend time "trying" to game it and felt like I got rather accurate results. There were a few times where it was not tracking me which was frustrating but I imagine this will be improved over time with updates. I did have the dog run in one time and start walking around me. I stopped working out but I continued to get credit for movement (From Dog). So, in short, I think it could probably be gamed, but if you are not trying to do that... I think it will mostly work as you want and only get better over time. Hope that helps!
@@Learnwithtravis Thanks so much, Travis! Yeah, I figure I'm not one to game it, so it's probably a non-issue for me. I'm just hoping the tracking will be consistent because I could see that driving me a little nuts.
I would modify. Sitting or being on my knees or something along those lines. It has been a while but I think it did throw off the tracking a bit. That was at the very beginning though and I wonder if they have improved.
Love all your videos. I’m going to Peloton showroom to try out the guide tomorrow. What should I ask them? I’m a current all access subscriber. Thanks.
Thank you so much! I would focus on the workout style and flow. Do you enjoy the body weight and dumbbell style exercises and how they transition from exercise to exercise. As you do that, you can see what functionality the Guide provides and make sure that works for you, but overall I would be focused on making sure you enjoy the exercise style itself. Good luck and hope you enjoy it!
Actually I have some 500 bike rides and over 100 rows and have not taken a single strength training class because I am so weak above the belt. Trying to get motivated to do strength training but I need some serious help and this Guide might be a way to get started. Are the strength training programs usable in the guide? Like I think Olivia has a program for beginners. Thanks.
My pleasure! I have not used the Tempo but do know a lot of people have been very happy with it. Without knowing much, I would lean towards considering your situation. if you have a TV that would be a great place to exercise, getting into the Guide at only 300 dollars could keep a lot of money in your pocket. If you don't have a great space for that or want a little more control with weights and exercises that are more gear towards resistance instead of resistance\cardio then the Tempo might be a better fit. Hope that helps!
Just found your channel...Great content and presentation!! Wish it could offer feedback on form. I love peloton but not sure if this any better than my standard mirror in my pelo gym. Pls keep putting out these quality videos!
Thank you so much Donald and welcome! I imagine this is just the starting point for the Guide and it will continue to offer more. Plenty more to come on the channel! Thanks again and have a great one!
Travis, so you had the Tonal from 2020 to 2022 and now tested the Peloton Guide in May/June...what's your plan from July through December :-). Sticking with the Tonal or moving to the Peloton Guide? I'm very, very tempted to get the Tonal but obviously the price of Peloton Guide is attractive. I just want to use what I get...have been out of it for a long time. Thought maybe spending the money on Tonal would keep me pumped, and hear such amazing things...it's also 2 years old now though...Seems like Peloton Guide needs a little work still...welcome your thoughts. Also, have you looked at FormeLife Lift? Thanks!
These two systems are the only real connected fitness resistance machines I have got my hands on. The experience and objective of these two machines is quite a bit different. The Peloton Guide is more of a mix of cardio, body weight workouts, and free weights. A great structure if you are looking to get strong while also mixing cardio and well-balanced exercise. The Tonal is more resistance based. So, if you are looking to get stronger, add muscle, and get the results of true resistance exercise.... then the Tonal might be your option. I could be reading into this incorrectly, but honestly, it sounds like the Peloton guide might be the better starting point. Get in better shape, add some strength, but more than anything... prove to yourself you are going to stick to it. If after a while you feel you want a sweet resistance machine, grab the Tonal. It is awesome. Hope that helps!
Does the guide offer new daily workouts program that you follow? Similar to showing up to group fitness classes. Or is like a buffet style where you pick the classes?
They have a whole library of classes so when you login, you pick what you feel like. They also have collections and live exercises so if you want to work out along live and do what they are offering at that time, you can do that as well.
Big discount on this right now. $135 for a guide and two sets of weights. If you don't have any Weights, I'd recommend buying the guide with 10 and 15lb weights and going to target and buying some 5lb weights. That is really all you need for the guide. It is not a get buff tool, its a solid filler for the muscles you don't use on the bike/row/row though
@@BonanzaPilotyea I got most of mine, waiting for a set of weights. I was waiting for mine to get shipped before making another order (didn’t want to risk them cancelling it) but they changed the price before it shipped.
Are free weights the only option for strength? I ask because I have a functional trainer in my home gym and wondering if this includes classes based on the fitness equipment in your home.
what about the subscription? I currently subscribe to the Peloton app. Do I just use the strength training already on the app? Or is this a separate membership? Also, is Apple Watch support coming? They have it for the app for biking.
The all access membership covers one of each of their connected fitness equipment including the guide. You will need an all access membership though. This is discounted until 2023 for new all access subscriptions Apple watch support is also coming.
@@DrMarkWaller so when you get any peloton equipment including the Guide you pay a higher subscription fee because you get a lot more than you do on the app. So if you get tye Guide or bike/Tread from peloton you will have to pay a higher subscription to access the content and all of the detailed metrics.
I was thinking about getting a peloton because I heard they are much cheaper. While looking into why the price dropped so much it seems the stock for the company has plummeted. My question is, if the company goes bankrupt and all the online classes disappear its not likely this bike is worth it? Opinions?
Agree! While this applies to just about any connected fitness device, if Peloton did go under and stopped supporting their platform, you would have just a bike. I personally do not see this happening but it is a very valid concern.
As one other commenter eluded to, the ongoing cost of using the Guide isn't insignificant and is the only thing I didn't hear you spend much time discussing in the video review. I'd be interested in you doing a comparison of The Peloton Guide to the Peloton App that includes current pricing for each. I've read Peloton is revising tiering of its app pricing for those with heavy Peloton equipment (bikes, treadmills, rowers), The Guide, and app only users, but for me, a motivated self disciplined person who doesn't need to worry too much about their form (or could see themselves in a $20 mirror), I have a hard time justifying the $300 one time cost plus an additional $24/month ($288/year in perpetuity) versus a $12/month ($144/year in perpetuity) app alone option. One other item to consider is space. For The Guide to work, you need enough clear room between your television and mat which they recommend placing sideways. A lot of people work out in the corner of a home office or bedroom, or what have you, being creative with the room they have that allows them to get their workouts in but not in a way that they are always directly in front of the television and equally far enough away that when on the ground, they can both see the tv an The Guide can see them. Just a few unsolicited observations. Like you, taking away everything that one would already get with just the Peloton app, I think The Guide is a viable tool for someone willing to pay $24/month (still a good deal) plus $300, is a beginner to weightlifting and body-weight conditioning, has a fairly open space to workout, and is motivated by seeing their reps/movement on a screen and is motivated by gimmicks and gamification. If you just want to workout and do it already, not sure much is added here. One other thing I've heard, unconfirmed by me, is that Peloton offers certain classes and programs first to The Guide owners for a limited time (a few weeks) before they are offered in the app or elsewhere, so if getting the latest and greatest classes before anyone else is a motivator, there's that. Lastly, look for holiday deals. In winter 2022, The Guide plus a set of weights was offered for the price of just The Guide. That's essentially a $300 savings off of rack rate. Thanks for the video review; very well done.
