*The question of who has to pay the consequences of Russia's war is extremely easy to answer,* because Russia has violated international law. So Russia must pay reparations for *all* the consequences: *The reconstruction* in Ukraine, but of course *also the costs that the war has caused for the allies,* because without Russia's war they would not have arisen. Completely logical and simple. *Russia certainly doesn't want to pay that, so* the only way to do it will be through punitive tariffs, which will then be used to pay back these amounts over the years.
The problem with the west is that they talk but don't listen and that's a very big problem in a changing world, The rise of other people's and nations other than Europeans is an inevitable reality an the earlier that they understand this the better for them, Times are changing an it will only be wise if one changes with them or be crushed by the reality that old rules can no longer stand.
No reaction to an aggressor in an invitation for them to be more aggressive. If we're not going to fight with Ukraine, then we can't fall down in arming them. We also can't limit the use of aid to not include in side Russia so long as the objectives are military targets. Interest on Russia money in Western banks should be immediately used to fund Ukraine's war efforts and the principal used to rebuild it after the war.
We don't need to worry about humiliating Russia because the list of ways Russia has humiliated itself is so long and so appalling it's almost beyond belief. The current state of humiliation is already so bad that when Russia loses the war most Russians won't even be surprised by it.
russia just lost one of its AWACS planes. And they decided that it was less embarrasing to say that they lost it due to friendly fire, a mistake by their own air defence that to say it was shot down by the Ukrainians. Lol. A fine example when stupid doesn't know it's stupid.
Is it some new trend that PM's and presidents who are bad at domestic politics are good at foreign politics and vice versa? Our Kaja is not much loved here in Estonia but her support towards Ukraine and understanding of Russia are both outstanding. And we are really somehow disturbed that many Western politicians are hiddenly still ready to make deals with such bloody monster as Führer Putin is, their short-sightedness is awesome. Even if Russian tanks will never enter to Germany or Italy or Greece, that doesn't mean that those countries will retain their democracy and influence within the "new World order", where dictatorships, wars and corruption will conquer the "new brave world".
You have made a very interesting observation & asked a good question! I have been following politics for 50 years, and I think I can offer some possible answers. I will apologize ahead of time, because my three answers require a good amount of words for me to make my thoughts clear. 1. Governments have limited resources. There are only so many talented individuals willing to take a sabbatical from their job or interrupt their career to serve the nation as a politician, and there is a limited amount of money to hire expert consultants to properly inform every representative in government who is responsible for managing a ministry in the government. Also, leaders & top diplomats only have so much time to deal with the large number of 'problems' that exist in domestic & foreign issues. It is quite common for a Prime Minister/President to move around the most talented & effective people in their parts & among government workers to deal with the most pressing domestic or foreign issues, so unfortunately, some issues may not receive the attention or funding that other issues demand. So, even the most motivated, patriotic & honest political leaders & government departments will often be less effective (temporarily, or during their entire term) when dealing with certain responsibilities. 2, In 'western' democracies, each political party & their election campaigns are funded by donations from ordinary citizens, rich & powerful citizens, citizen organizations & corporations (and, in some countries, foreign donations too). Not surprisingly, these 'donations' are not altruistic, but come with the expectation that the political party they support will advocate for additions or changes in legislation, the greatest efforts by the government, etc which are most advantageous to the individuals/families/organizations/corporations which made the donations. Of course, the most generous donators will expect that their agenda for the government is made the highest priority. The end result is that most governments have an agenda which will be a mix of what is best for the people & the global community, AND the more self-centred expectations of the most generous & influential donors to the party that forms the government. So, even the best-intentioned leaders (Kallas does seem to be this) and ruling party will have to focus its limited resources toward agenda items which may not be, in the grand scheme of things, what should be the highest priority. 3. Finally, here's a reality that affects our *perceptions* about the successes & failures of all 'western' democratic governments. While many 'western' democracies may have a government-funded national media outlet, the majority of media is privately owned. These media corporations are, like all corporations, are focused on making profits & paying nice dividends to their shareholders. This means that the number one priority of all privately owned media is attracting advertizing income, and the most viewers/listeners/followers the media corporation can attract, the more the corporation can charge advertizers. Also, for better or worse, the media knows that "bad news sells", i.e. people tend to be attracted to news which has a highly-emotional & highly-relevant focus, and this is maximized when the news invokes feelings of worry, fear, frustration, anger, envy, and a desperate hunger to know more about the issues. Furthermore, it is the news which affects the person consuming the news that will attract the most attention. That means that politics is almost always guaranteed to attract consumers of news, so all media corporations endeavour to have content about the government as often as possible. On top of that, all media corporations will focus primarily on areas where there is 'bad news' with the government, so the media will look for areas where the government is underperforming, is making controversial changes, etc. So, it's not a surprise that - depending on the government agenda, domestic/foreign problems, etc. that a government will receive the most coverage in domestic politics if that is where the most 'bad news' can be found, or in foreign politics if that is where most of the 'bad news' can be found. In fact, I would suggest that even if a country the best government on Earth, which is doing a very good job in both domestic & foreign circles, the media will do its best to 'create a crisis or controversy' in order to guarantee that they are still attracting viewers & maximizing their advertizing income! I hope this has been helpful. :)

There is also "Inside russia" operated by some fat russian bloke named CONstantin. He, too, is an "anti-russia" vlogger, except he's making mad money off of the blood of Ukrainians on his channel by chanting anti-russian rhetoric that his American and European followers love to hear about. Nobody else is talking about it. Nobody brings up the issue to stop sending "money for coffees" to these russian vloggers that make so much money from their viewers, yet, do not donate 1 cent to Ukrainians who are suffering and dying.
Capable, stable and intelligent leadership. Kaja Kallas is a perfect representative of the true EU spirit. Estonia must be doing stuff right having her as prime minister! Well done, greetings from The Netherlands.
Russia knows one thing brutality. Russia own history shows just how brutal they are. They have a lot to change to come to a modern world. Should never be softly softly with dictatorships. I all so see the rise of the private companies like the WEF WHO has dictatorships.
On frozen assets, they are FROZEN assets, but there is no mechanism for transfer of sovereign assets to any other country. Everything else is the old “let’s throw all international laws and norms to the wind, even though we are not at war with Russia, just because we don’t like Russia” argument.
The modern economic system has many advantages. It has a large weakness it is Fiat money. The stability depends on trust. If you change the rules you can lower trust. A small change in trust could make a large impact on the entire system.
23:30 “war fatigue in the west “is absurd. The person running the marathon gets fatigue. The person passing out Gatorade on the side of the road doesn’t get fatigue.
The Prime Minister demonstrates an intelligent and very clearly enunciated plan. She demonstrates how important the English language is when working with a large group pf western allies. Ukraine has been slow to learn the lessons of English. Without Zelensky the war for Ukraine would have been a very different affair. His personality and command of the English language changed the course of history.
Friends living in Estonia have been some of my dearest and treasured acquaintances, and from what I know Estonia is a very forward looking society with very modern sense of the world and their place in it. It is a pleasure to hear from the PM Kaja Kallas and her sound judgement and strong support for Ukraine is reassuring given the cloudy nature of the EU.

My history teach me that NATO bombed us 1999, they harshly violated territorial integrity and suverenity of our country. Second European Union and NATO they are not partners, their politics are based on dictation which certain country must obey. Example they say we must do that, do that than we might join European Union, we fulfill certain dictation than new dictation, everytime some new demand and European Union give us nothing. We waiting more than 20 years to become members of European Union. And after you realize that all was lies, and that we will never join European Union. Maybe you can ask same thing from Ukraine, tell them that they will be member of European Union if they say that Crimea is not Ukraine. Double standards western bustards. In one word west is not realible. My country should stop joining European Union and turn toward free world countries such is Russia. Glory to Russia and Putin's army ❤🇷🇺Z
Interesting intervies, PM Kallas might be the strongest leader in EU right now, she does seem intelligent and able to take decisive action, good for Ukraine too. It is unfortunate she is not the leader of France or some other more powerful country, but leading by example does matter. To Kyiv Independent, I think the style and editing was good but your audio is lacking, compare how crisp and clear Kallas sounds and the echo when Istomina speaks. Probably you need to use a better location, the angles and hard surfaces creates a lot of echo. Moving the desk out from the corner and maybe add some sound capturing spiky foam plates outside of view can do wonders (if money is really tight you can always use cheaper materials, normal foam mattress kind of works in a pinch too.)
Ukraine isn't the only country the U.S. supports with military assistance. Maybe Europe could convince all those other countries to donate their portion of U.S. military assistance to Ukraine.
Russia was cornered into a war with Ukraine a war Russia did not want. But as Americans could not tolerate Soviet troops, military bases and offensive military hardware in Cuba, including missiles that threatened the US state Russia cannot tolerate NATO troops, military bases and offensive military hardware, including missiles that could reach the Kremlin in minutes at Russian borders with Ukraine that would be an unaceptable threat to the Russian state. It is so grave that Russia is prepared to use nuclear weapons to avoid such a threat to materialize. Unfortunately Ukraine accepted to be the western instrument to fight this war and for that the Ukrainian people are paying the haviest of the prices.

Individual countries are free to provide aid on their own, but the EU as a block has its own position to evaluate. In this context providing aid through the EU budget should be understood as part of a security package for the block as a whole. All members share the same security policy on top of each individual country’s security policies.
The small Baltic countries maybe part of NATO, but there is always the doubt.. will the rest of NATO really protect them from Russia with the risk of a nuclear war? Will they be soft like Hungary?
Somehow Russia will pay. They will maybe not sign a treaty and be willing to pay. And other countries will probably need to pay in the beginning to rebuild. Just as Germany was rebuilt after ww2. But longterm Russia will pay everything, maybe with the help of customs fees or any other economic solution.
The news reaching for the President itself and he might getting something from the commander from all nations regarding the next strategy for Ukraine and to his man according to the ways of NATO adjustments for battlefield war.
What a competent Prime minister,European have to wake up and provide any means required by Ukraine ,the cost will be much higher if Russia win this war,i dont know if European can grasp that.......We support Ukrainian till victory and beyond.......
The Eastern European states of NATO need to create transnational industrial concerns for defense purposes since defense in the region is truly a collective effort.
Any Americans watching this: pressure MAGA Congress people to finally agree to support the aid package for Ukraine. Their opposition is either childish or a sign Putin is dictating to them.

Estonia is a leader in thought because all supporters of Ukraine need to believe in Ukrainians victory. If you believe does not died, you will win.
The world engaging in a "turret championship" due to Russia's poor engineering is just one of the many
russia just lost one of its AWACS planes.
Thank you for your comment. It's interesting to hear opinions from Estonians about this interview and the topics that were discussed

What a refreshing example of clarity on the issues! Thank you for this interview with PM Kallas, and for the exceptional journalism from Kyiv Independent.
Thank you for your kind words.
I love watching your interviews and news reports.
I am still surprised by your small viewership on RUclips.
There are many war bloggers who support Ukraine.
Their work is also newsworthy.
Collaboration with war bloggers looks like a win-win situation to me.
I would look at Jake Broe, Andrew Mercado, Anna from Ukraine, Brandon Mitchell, Artur Riegh, Ukraine matters, ….
There are many more.
Also mention liking and subscribing and sharing supports your work.
I appreciate that you don’t place heavy advertising on your presentations. You could but you would lose viewers.

Stand with Ukraine

Thank you Estonia for standing with Ukraine!

I honestly think she is one of the most intelligent politicians out there.
Вы абсолютно правы.

Well done Estonia.
You understand the extreme danger if Putin isn't defeated.
You are indeed a small country with a big heart.
Sorry for all the Ukrainians who lost their lives!
Simple question, if Ukraine can defeat Russia why you do not defeat Russia? Why you avoid direct confrontation with Russia?😂😂😂
Go and read your history......
Loaded question detected -> motivated reasoning evident -> inappropriate use of smileys taken as evidence for apparent low IQ and EQ of this particular stormtrooper for doctrine.

Thank you for the tips; we appreciate it!
Delusional.

What a clear minded and well spoken PM.
Would happily trade many of our politicians on this side of the pond for her !

Agreed.
Why does the EU have to send the money?
Why does not each country give what they want to give ?
Individual countries are free to provide aid on their own, but the EU as a block has its own position to evaluate. In this context providing aid through the EU budget should be understood as part of a security package for the block as a whole. All members share the same security policy on top of each individual country’s security policies.
The small Baltic countries maybe part of NATO, but there is always the doubt.. will the rest of NATO really protect them from Russia with the risk of a nuclear war? Will they be soft like Hungary?
poor estonia...
Бедный скудоумный максим, лететь ему дроном.
