  • This is a review of the Dakota packable mallard duck decoy. We bought a dozen of these before the season started and we used them nearly everyday of the 2017-2018 season. We're very hard on our equipment, so needless to say, they were put to the test. Here we tell you the strengths and the weaknesses we found using these decoys this past duck season.

I really like how light they are! Another thing that gets overlooked i think is that because of the material they're made of, they're almost completely silent (compared to hard bodied decoys) when you're walking out or throwing them in and out of the boat. Bought a dozen last fall and plan on selling the rest of our decoys to fund and replace with these packable dakotas!

Yeah we love them. They move so good on the water, we have noticed that some come kinda messed up from sitting in packaging for to long. Just a heads up. They just look a little deformed and it's really hard to fix them. But still totally functional. We love em though.

Yeah, we've used them for a good while now and we like them. Not very durable though. The stoppers break off and some get holes, but we like them

I wanted to love my packables, believe me I did. They were my favorite decoys for the first 5 hunts of the season. The movement is great, the look is great, easy to haul in, but unfortunately my flocking started peeling off bad. It was actually the paint the flocking was attached to that was peeling off. The body paint peeled some but not terrible. For $75/6 the flocking and paint should last more than 10 hunts.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience, weve had a few issues with ours like the plug on the back breaking off super easy, but our flocking has been good. Great decoy for walkin hunters. Like you said movement is great to

Buy some flocking material real easy to do a little messy but it turns out good and hold up

Yeah, we'll have to try that. With the normal dakotas you can just replace the head, which is just easier and probably a better job than we could do lol but yeah we'll look into that. It would be super easy for dakota to make em with replaceable heads...or so it seems anyways. Thanks for the tip man.

@@ChasingGreen Or painted heads so we don't have to fix their crappy head on an otherwise nice and expensive decoy.

I know this video is very old! But one thing I have had better luck with on keeping flocked heads nicer as long as you can is put old socks over the heads and protect them from getting beat around so much

Good thinking! Ive started going with the painted heads in the past few years since they put those out as options. Pretty happy with them

Yeah man, their super light and look awesome. Really the best I've ever used, and I'm not brand loyal or anything when it comes to decoys

Worthless as tits on a boars butt . Bought 18 earlier this year and finally got out yesterday to hunt . The keels are cheap bent over garbage that cause the decoy to lay on it's side in wind . The air hole is to high up so air was hard to plug up quickly. The air holes on the old ones we have are located lower on the body. My buddy took 18 out and was so pissed after putting 6 out he stopped . Four fell over on there sides and only 2 were good . Poor odds so i pulled out my C&h mags for the rest of the year . My only regret is cutting up the boxes so i cannot send them back ! If any one is in Calif. and want's them your welcome to come and get them !
