    Ordered 6 to see if I liked them. The box arrived decimated with a lot of tape. The UPS guy said I bet they are destroyed and wanted to know if I wanted to refuse them. We looked at the decoys and they were in pristine condition. I kept mine and the UPS guy told me later he ordered himself a dozen. Looking forward to putting them to use. They look fantastic. Will get more. Thank you for the review.

    I really like the Lifetimes, but they're pricey so we only have a few dozen. We use Lifetimes when packing light is important (we take out the perimeter weights), but I use my big Higdon battleships when I need numbers and visibility and weight isn't an issue.

    I hunt the Arkansas River in Colorado with a lot of moss traveling down the river. I have added extra weights to hold them from floating off. I’m constantly cleaning big globs of moss off the keels of regular decoys. Would the double keel on the Lifetime decoys work better with the conditions I’m describing? You should try that test?? Thanks for all the great videos you put together.

    • @randym7961

    I could be wrong BUT it looked like the first two decoys were full of “water” which would make them explode like a full milk jug, rather than shot just passing thru them, where as the Lifetime is a solid decoy and wouldn’t explode.

    • @SurvivingDuckSeason
      @SurvivingDuckSeason  2 года назад +2

      I’m not sure of your point. Neither were full of water, but probably did have a few ounces in them. The result was the same in all of the regular plastic decoys. It doesn’t matter if there is water in them or not, they will sink if you shoot them. If you shoot em at 10 yards, it will destroy them. Not the case with Lifetime decoys, which was the point of the video.

      Time will tell. I will say this.... mine were used on 15 hunts and then they’ve been sitting outside in the weather for over a month. I rinsed em off and they look brand new. That’s not the case with most decoys I’ve used in the last 10 years.

    The large blue speculum on the drake decoys is very obvious and out of place. The speculum doesn't show on live drake mallards at rest on water, so could this could be a warning flag to decoy shy ducks ?

    • @SurvivingDuckSeason
      @SurvivingDuckSeason  3 года назад +1

      jim rennie that’s an interesting perspective. One I’ve never considered. Being that every mallard decoy I’ve used in my life has the blue speculum painted on it - I don’t know why it would scare ducks. I’ve seen 10s of thousands of ducks die coming into decoys with them makes me think they don’t care. Even on the specific decoys from this video: I had good success with them. I never even thought if the speculum showed on resting ducks. I’m not into hyper-realism for waterfowl. I have too much success doing unrealistic things to get ducks in front of my gun barrel. Perhaps it might make a difference in areas where ducks are not plentiful. Interesting thought... you may be right. I’m sure there are a few decoy companies that don’t paint the wing patch, but I wonder why (virtually) all decoy companies paint it on?
      What decoys do you use?

    • @jimrennie9497
      @jimrennie9497 3 года назад

      @@SurvivingDuckSeason .....Well, ducks are not plentiful in SW Alberta- we are many miles away from the main flyway, so I try to tip the odds in my favor. I have mostly Flambeau decoys and a few old Carrylites, and have painted over the speculum on the drakes. I left the hens alone because live mallard hens often show the blue speculum when standing on a rock or sitting on the water. Your vast experience with decoys makes me think I'm wasting my time painting them, and now I even question whether it is worthwhile to touch up paint chipped decoys at the end of every season.Thanks for sharing your knowledge,,,Jim.

    • @Will-ki7us
      @Will-ki7us 3 года назад +3

      If the ducks are close enough to key in on the blue speculum, they should be dead anyway.

      Kyle Buzzard Mr. Buzzard, I’ll chime in here because I love ripples over spinners. Flashback Decoys changed my duck world. They are not cheap. I bought 1 a year for 3 years and they are amazing. Made by Duck Creek Decoys. I also have two Frenzy Feeders, two Battleship Swimmers, and a butt rippler or two. That decoy bag carries about 2k in decoys, but boy do they work. Ripples for days without getting carpal tunnel syndrome yanking a jerk chord! Like Joel, I also sprinkle in some Flocka-Flickers on real sunny days. Hope this helps. Good luck!
