Evolutions was honestly pretty dark. Between Soren’s story in Pariah, Brien’s ordeal here, The Mona Lisa, which I think was the most visceral the Flood has ever been portrayed, and Cortana’s experience being tortured by the Gravemind in Human Weakness, it’s incredibly bleak. These stories feel like a huge contrast to the more heart-pounding, high-flying power fantasy moments of the series that makes for must reads in my opinion. Terrific video as always!!
Anthology series are almost always really sad for some reason. Evolutions especially. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a single story that isn’t just terrible in some shape or form. There’s a lot of good stuff in there though so maybe I’m just forgetting. I guess The Impossible Life and Possible Death of Admiral Preston J. Cole isn’t too bad Thanks!
@@dinosaurbros8908 Headhunters was ruined with the deaths of the ELITE Advanced Specs ops Elites imo. It just undermines the bleakness that's a running theme in these stories. Sure normal Spartans can handle blue Elites and it makes sense for 2 ELITE Spartans to kill multiple blues and their teams but this was supposed to show that not even Spartans are safe and the species within the Covenant are just too much. Think about it this singular Elite dodged multiple bullets from POINT BLANK RANGE that were fired from a super human that's considered ELITE amongst other super humans and then he out maneuvers and just Ragdolls him in mere seconds. Oh but they all die lmao yup these ELITE aliens die anyway. Where's the bleakness? If it's just gonna be more humans always win bullshit that aspect of the story is gone n And just a side tangent that terrible book Oblivion turned these ELITE Advanced Spec Ops units into canon fodder lmao absolutely garbage
@dinosaurbros8908 that’s true. Still though, The Return and Headhunters have some pretty heavy elements in them. In headhunters, the main characters win but they also die tragically destroying something the covenant literally created to lure them. So they essentially died for nothing. I suppose you could argue that a lot of resources went into killing them so they still won from a certain point of view. The Return is super heavy. Though the elite in the story has turned over a new leaf, living with the guilt of destroying an entire planets worth of people is pretty much as depressing as it gets. Not to say that any of these stories are utterly hopeless because they’re not. They just conclude very sadly/deal with very dark concepts
Yeah, he was in a recent waypoint chronicle. I forget the name but it was the one where a Spartan is indoctrinated into the banished. Bastard had it coming
Makes me appreciate how this was brought back in Rubicon Protocol with the banished employing Methane gassing chambers, dead Spartans being used as target practice, the sexual abuse that is implied, and to top it all off the honorable yet horrifying fate of those sent to the house of reckoning and the tower. God of love the lore of halo.
And then Bungie went and turned Brutes (and the rest of the covenant species) into parodies of what they used to be. Which are changes 343 just ran with and absolutely drove into the ground. "sPaCe MoNkE" instead of a giant bear rhino alien thing with only a few simian characteristics.
@@Gotnothingatall how? They're these ugly generic Ork things that die in droves. Tell me about Rubicon tho, I stopped reading the books after I bought that shitty one where blue team goes back to reach and the banished are comically all canon fodder with Chief punching a speeding banshee like 10 meters away 😐 dumbest shit I ever read lmao
@@blueguy2128 Yeah, if you're not a fan of Shadows of Reach, you're not gonna like Rubicon Protocol. It's kinda just more of the same as the books have been since 2011
At first when the leaks happened I didn’t really care about the beta/unused assets, source code leaks, or a Pokemon MMO in the works because I haven’t been interested in Pokemon since Elementary school. Then I learned about the weird parts of the leaks and that dumpster fire peaked my interest. From what I’ve heard it’s based on Japanese folklore. It’s truly hilarious how we now know that a lot of the weird human x pokemon fan art is lore accurate🤣😂
Well that was a dark ending.
The brute's aren't the only monsters it would seem.
Damnit, I wish I would’ve thought of that when I wrote the script!
I suppose the deadliest monster is the one you turn your back on.
Man these stories made me feel like Cortana did good by destroying Doisac, these guys live in a constant Mad Max - carnivorous world 😅😅😅😅

This is true Halo. The power fantasy bull crap is what ruined everything in my opinion. So much stupidity that took away from halos realism and grit.
Evolutions shows just how bleak everyone's situation had gotten but others had some hope like the return, headhunters, and Mona Lisa to some degree.

Thats why when cortana destroyed brutes home world, i was like, karmas a bitch.
Bro that shirt is awesome, now we just need a doom marine shirt styled like the halo 2 cover art
I would buy that
The Triad Leader survives fun fact. Is captured by Brutes again. And is actually eaten

😮 I really need to read that book
Too bad Rubicon Protocol was bad, but that's been par for the course since 2011

atleast 343 Halo infinite returned the Brutes back being dark for a bit, dont get me started in Rubicon.

If you want something spooky go check out the Pokemon leaks about Typhlosion🤣

Just noticed that all of the brutes names are inspired by Roman Catholicism and I think that’s a neat touch!
That t-shirt bro.
Best of both worlds
You should do a what if.
What if Goku was found by Halsey
Tbh with you, I’ve never even seen a single episode of Dragonball
