The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Have adored Petula Clark since I was in level 4, Cambridge City, Indiana...luckily, WIBC (Indianapolis) radio hosts must have enjoyed her as much as I did.
Just heard this for the first time tonight. Had me hooked right away. Surprised it wasn't a bigger hit.
Classic Petula
"Man will soon be standing on the moon above" TRUE!!!! Four years later.
Terrific singer. Always enjoyed her music. Especially during her appearances on Ed Sullivan.
There's no better vocalist than Petula Clark. An icon of the highest caliber.
TOTALLY AGREE with you 💯 per cent Bob De Reimer.
Petula Clark is without any doubt what-so-ever The Greatest Female Vocalist Of ALL TIME.
FACT.
Enough said.
@@darrenplumpton9737 - Thank you, Darren. Petula is playing The Bird Woman in MARY POPPINS, London.
@@bobdereimer5210 Petula celebrated her 89th birthday yesterday (15/11/2021)and thankfully is still going strong.
Yes Bob she as decided to reprise her role in Mary Poppins as you have said.
I played her songs all of yesterday and I will stand by my statement that I have said previously, many times, that in my opinion Petula Clark is THE GREATEST FEMALE VOCALIST OF ALL TIME.
All she wants now is a much deserved DAMEHOOD after the amazing career she as had
@@darrenplumpton9737 - Did you see Mary Poppins? I never will. I hope there is a DVD and I hope to see the show.
@@bobdereimer5210 No Bob I haven't. HOW truly amazing is the woman we both amire so very much?
She's is an INCREDIBLE 89 years young and is still performing on stage.
I am so impressed by her wonderful attitude to life and the vitality she as in abundance is truly a blessing to behold.
When you think of the calibre of people she as dueted with it is second to none.
Dean Martin,Frank Sinatra,Perry Como,Danny Kaye,Bobby Darin,Harry Belifonte and of course Fred Astaire.
It is with true thankfulness that I say Thank You Petula for being the soundtrack to my life.
Great!
💗💗.
I'd forgotten about this song.
😘💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕Pétula
Petula THE BEST ❤️
This record was a very minor hit, #21 Billboard Hot 100. Not surprising actually since the two before it were "I Know a Place" and "Downtown", both MASSIVE Hit Records. Her follow up was the very upbeat 'My Love' that became a #1 Hit in the U.S. and Top 5 in the U.K. I still prefer "I Know a Place"...it has the KILLER Chorus...'A cellar full of noise...' What a great, evocative lyric...you hear it and you know exactly the scene don't you?
Right before Round Every Corner was You'd Better Come Home which peaked at #22. It is my least favorite of Petula's impressive chart run, but is part of her 15 consecutive top 40 hits.
@@hnc52 AM Radio singles, back in the day, were coming fast and furious from the entire recording industry. If the companies detected the slightest fall off of sales/play, another one was release asap. Pretty incredible pace. But the listening public was the better for it, in my opinion. Always something fresh to hear from the greatest of the era...and Petula Clark was one of those...
One of my favorite songs of hers!
evergreen🌟🌟🌟🎉🎉🎉
This was obviously before Apollo 11 and Neil Armstrong's giant step for mankind.
You obviously refer to the line about "man standing on the moon", yes that would have been 4 years later
Petula Méga Star⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟🌟🌟

Wonderful! Does anyone know what else Petula sang this night?
“A foggy day “
Is anyone else bothered by all the Petula Clark clips on this channel? I think there needs to be a shakeup of different performers
The only people who would be bothered are those who don't want to see historic classic performances of songs that made the Billboard Top 40 pop chart in the 1960s.
Petula is reAlly belting this one!
Uh.....aren't there other channels?
Not at all..great to see them in pristine quality ..hope they show all !
NO WAY!!!!WE WANT MORE PETULA.
THE MORE THE MERRIER.
BRING THEM ON.
LET'S HAVE ALL OF THE OVER ONE THOUSAND SONGS THAT PETULA AS RECORDED.
I LOVE PETULA.
WE WANT MORE PETULA.
