  • Another Vlog from my back catalogue: This one from January 2023 and my 'This is how Wales wins' series:
I'm sometimes asked what attracts me to the Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and Borders route, and the answer is simple: great people and positive change 👍.
2023 is going to be a big year of positive change on the route: a complete new fleet of trains, increased timetable frequencies, a concerted effort on punctuality, freight growth, tackling climate resilience, integrating the 'Transport for Wales' South Wales Metro, preparing for the new 'open access' operators, getting ready for our 'Control Period 7 delivery plan (2024 - 2029), building on the safety improvements of the last 3 years, the era beyond industrial action and much more.......
And, we have great railway industry people in the route to deliver all this, so what is not to like! I'm also really impressed with the genuine drive for modal shift out of the 'private car' by the Welsh Government - Not only words, actions too.......
In this Vlog, I check in with Christopher Read at CAF Rail UK at Chester depot to learn more about the introduction of the new fleet of 77 trains which is happening now. It is great to see the detail being put into the best possible maintenance facilities meaning this fleet will be looked after in the very best way. I particularly like the remote fleet monitoring technology - great stuff. These trains are now in service in the North, undergoing training in the South and all Network Rail gauging etc is complete ready for the full roll out this year.
Also, I check in with Ian Langton from GB Railfreight and Oliver Paget and Sarah McCarthy from our NR freight team. We visited two customer sites (Hansons, cement and Tata, steel), undertook safety tours and considered what more we could do to promote more freight growth.......
In the Vlog, I wish everyone a happy new year - I recorded the parts of this a couple of weeks ago and the editor (me!) was busy last week with the weather.......
    Stay safe everyone......
