I wake at least 6-8 times every night for 10yrs now. I've seen several different urologists and they have done nothing for me. I've just lived with. So aggrivating.
Not getting up to pee is even more annoying. I pee 2 or 3 times a night, been doing so for quit some time. I'd prefer not wanting to do that, but don't mind it all that much. I think "hydration." I also pee in a bottle with measurements in CC. Wanting to pee at night might not be such a bad thing. Now maybe if it was 4 or 5 times I'd think different. I'm 74, almost 75, in fair shape superficially, but with serious and existential health issues beneath the surface.
Anyone who has had kidney stones is virtually certain to develop more within ten years of treatment. One of the side effects of kidney stones in development is irritation that prompts the kidneys to continue working during sleep, causing the bladder to continue to fill. I don't recall seeing any mention of this here or in similar videos.
I pee once a night almost like clockwork and have for years. I do drink water usually all the way up to bedtime. I have found one thing that's kind of weird. If I take Tylenol or a sleep med with Tylenol in it I may not wake up to pee that night and it clearly reduces the need to pee during the night. Other pills like Advil or even Aspirin seem to affect it too, but more pronounced with Tylenol. Somehow it is affecting water retention. I don't know if I'm alone in this, but I've observed it many times and it's clearly the Tylenol.
Sometimes once an hour. Gets tiring but all doctors say are meds that don't work. I have a dry cough and have to drink a lot of water always. Was hoping for a solution.
That sucks. I'd rather have cancer or something. Oh, I do have cancer, and will be starting chemo radiation soon. I'd rather be me. You have my deepest sympathy.
I pee every 2-3 hours during the night. Think I developed overactive bladder after a hysterectomy for cancer, and the pelvic radiation treatment that followed. I wear thick continence pads, and quite frequently soak them.
I usually get up twice during the night to pee. One thing I have to be careful of - emptying my bladder fully at bedtime. For me, that means peeing three times. I pee and the stream runs out. Done, right? Wrong. Wait five minutes and I can pee another stream of almost the same volume. And then after changing into my pajamas, pee again. I have bladder wall thickening from chronic enlarged prostate and a very sensitive bladder as well. I have to avoid all the bladder irritants including coffee, alcohol, spicy foods, citrus fruits, and on and on. I can drink iced tea. I had prostate artery embolization done and that has helped. My situation was so bad before that was done that it sometimes took me an hour and a half to empty my bladder in the wee hours of the morning, and sometimes involved a trip to the local ER because I was in retention. L-Arginine helps relax my bladder to make emptying easier. I also have Parkinson's which complicates things and can contribute to bladder emptying problems.
I wake up every night at 3 am to pee, but I pee only 100ml so I don't understand why it happens.. I suffer from hypertension which is controlled by beta blockers but I noticed that my urination decreases in the evening. why does it happen?
Sorry Dr non of your reasons, the symptom was simply no internal alarm, no mental trigger ever happened....Wet the bed every night till 13, even twice!(many times dreamt that I was at the pan!), then slowly some nights woke up(because of aching feeling) and by 16 only now and again, by 18 at last the problem stopped(natural alarm started to work, it was a period I well remember), always had a super small bladder compared to people of my size(maybe a genetic issue)......now fear old age it will return.. The main issue is super deep sleep, even fire alarms, people couldn't wake me up, maybe its an ADHD trait...it would be interesting to know what anyone thinks...
No not very helpful. Basically it could loads of reasons. I wake every two hours normally and need to pee. If I sleep longer I find it hard to pee, very slow, perhaps uncomfortable, but if I lie down after ten minutes it is ok. In the morning all back to normal. I do have an overactive bladder and feel the need to pee frequently during the day. Two hours normally a maximum.
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. That wouldn’t let me get to deep sleep and urine production wasn’t being reduced enough. I lost 25#, got a CPAP machine and sleep much more effectively.
I’m in my early 70s and usually wake up 1/2 times a night to pee. I have an enlarged prostate so this is probably the cause. That said quite often when I wake up to pee I have an erection (nice I know but there’s a time and place for everything) and then have to manage going for a pee with a boner.
When you said, "speak to your Doctor about the options available to you", I had to double-check to see if you really had a British accent. I must be living in a parallel UK-verse to you. Great video otherwise.
Doesn't work for me. One of my many experiments to overcome frequent night urination (usually once every 1.5-2 hours) involved drinking *nothing* after midday. That made *no* difference at all. Fortunately, I immediately go back to sleep after such wakings.
@@JHPMedicalUK Well sure. But in today’s gender-bender “boys can be girls if they want” culture that photo shows either a lack of awareness of the controversies surrounding sex transformations, especially for minors, or even a subtle plug for it. My point is it was completely unneeded in the context of this particular video’s subject.
Excellent medical discourse. Most RUclips discussions never go beyond the first 3 or 4. Thank you.
You are welcome, glad it was helpful
Excellent straight forward, informative video. The many excitable American presenters could learn a lot from you.
Thanks for watching
Sleep Apnea! Rarely get up more than once in a 8 hour night. I used to get up at least 5 times a night. CPAP has changed my life for the better.
+gatorsfan146 thanks for watching and sharing your experience
CPAP makes me lose sleep. Get up 3 times a night for pee (minimum)
Just had TURP Op. not much improvement.
CPAP allowed me to sleep through the night without ever having to get up to pee.
I have this problem. I get up at least 2 at night to pee.
You're the only one so far who's mentioned anti diuretic hormone.

You might have sleep apnea, speak to a sleep doctor instead
Same I literally can’t have a proper sleep
Me too
Thank you for sharing the information.
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Great... like it. Very informative
Thanks David
Thank you.
You're welcome!

At least im not alone. Age. Prostate issues. Nobody gets out alive

I usually only wake up once but it's quite a session. Often a minute and a half's worth. I drink unsweet tea with dinner most nights.

Try kegels.
The wet the bed through my whole childhood so I guess that explains why I wake up to pee a ton as an adult
Thanks for watching

The BAD part is waking up to pee every two hrs. The GOOD part is, is the you…wake up…to pee every two hrs!
2am..I've peed at least 5times since 9pm..as I fall asleep..wake up needing to wee again
Agree , and I fel easy in sleep again 👋
Adult diapers here I come
That all depends…
I've been needing to get up in the night for a pee all my life. Every night of the year, every year...
If its affecting your quality of life speak to your doctor
Getting old sucks, to many problems!
Not waking up to pee has always been a bigger problem for me.
+Harrison Lee thanks for watching
Thanks, I was a bed-wetter, and it was a drag.
Two old guys
I’m getting worried that I will go to the gents and forget to do up my flies.
Second guy….well I’m worried I might forget to undo them.
Is alcohol involved in any way?
Stay warm.

Thumbs up for no other reason than to say I feel your pain on a lesser scale. Take care sir

Old plumbing always will have problems...

Yes apple does help me water
i reckon its because of the 12 cans of beer i have each night

I've noticed foods with Diphosphates in makes me pee in the night more. Anyone else noticed?

+fireflyrobert Hi, thanks for watching. We are glad you find it useful
Multiple Sclerosis forced me to have to learn how to pee all over again. It’s a hoot, let me tell you!
When you said, "speak to your Doctor about the options available to you", I had to double-check to see if you really had a British accent. I must be living in a parallel UK-verse to you. Great video otherwise.
Us?
Because I stayed well hydrated all day. That's why. Q 2 hrs.
Are all men in the UK as grisly as the one ready to get up to pee? I thought it was my reflection for a second.
Yes well it's hell getting older, isn't it?!!
Going in too long. I'm going for a piss...
Im fuckin 16 an pee 8+ times a night wtf!! Its been going on for weeks now wtf is happening 🤬
Here an idea, don't drink 6 hours prior to your bed time.

Naa, it is becuase you drink late and you need to pee, this is more Adsense money wanted
Why is that guy sitting down to pee?!?
Some men do at night. Preference.. Don't miss in the dark......
Because he is sleepy
It's called a 2% pee, nice to be special ha ha
Why is the male sitting on the toilet to urinate? Why?
+George Rebovich preference some men do at night 😴
Why not sit on the loo to pee, I have for several years now it’s not an issue.
Why not? It sounds like you are not the one cleaning the loo at home.
Get the facts right, I do clean the loo regularly and using it has nothing to do with who cleans it

The one in the photo, was he peeing or pooing?
+Sand Man not sure
Because your bladders full. Same reason you pee during the day. Stop over analyzing something so simple
Wear diapers to bed. Problem solved. Plus, it helps sleep to just pee while sleeping.
I just say my own alphabet when going to sleep.
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOQRSTUVWXYZ, it works as there is
No P.
Too much beer or fluids simples 🙄
