@@Rose19695 Well - Mr.Roumie and his shirt have certainly “water down” the just as important faith and beliefs of non-Catholic Christians - and what that symbol means to them. I think using the word “useless” to describe anything other than what his shirt says and what Catholics believe - is pretty patronizing. The meaning of patronize - speak or behave towards you in a way that seems friendly, but that shows that they think they are superior to you in some way. Most comments I see from Catholics on this and other beliefs - does just that. Think like you wish - believe as you wish - but understand that others are just as valid in their faith and beliefs. This shirt fails.

And Christ is not a picture in a stained window. I just came off an interview of Dallas Jenkins with Dr. Jordan Peterson. Dallas said a very important aspect that made him get to the Choosen. That he surrendered to the lord in his moment of failure and doubt. It was not a blind event but conscious and aware moment when a friend became a message to him from God. We are all waiting for a message yet refuse to keep our hearts and minds open to hear it. That is the failiure that we all have.

Scripturally in 1stCor. 2:4-5 it states, "for my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom but in demonstration of the Spirit and of Power, that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of man but in the power of God."
While listening to this interview I was impressed by Jonathan's demeanor and speech and this scripture explained how and why Jon's role is NOT acting but God's demonstration of His Spirit 'n Power is being manifested through Roumie. Intuned Christian can discern the difference between man's and God's spirit. I "think" Roumie's genuine speech and words, has allowed God's spirit to slip in 'n being demonstrated. I am not insinuating Jonathan to be perfect yet his sincerity and genuine desire to be witness is being manifested in this filmage.

No it's not "needed" but many find it helpful. It's only a tradition in the West. Eastern Catholics don't use it. It came from private revelation that no one is required to believe.

I know he doesn't like the constant comparison, but Jonathan really is a great example of Christ-like behavior.

Other people are not our enemies. Our enemies are not of this world. We all are people who need compassion.

“If it’s a symbol, to hell with it.” Flannery O'Connor said this in response to someone who described the Eucharist (Holy Communion in the Catholic Church) as "a pretty good symbol." O'Connor, a devout Catholic, believed that the Eucharist was not merely a symbol, but the actual body and blood of Christ. So, her response was a strong assertion of her belief in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
This quote is often used to emphasize the importance of substance over mere symbolism, particularly in religious contexts. It highlights O'Connor's deep faith and her rejection of a purely symbolic interpretation of religious rituals.
